Chapter 430 - 432: Jackson Kensington Is Not Your Father

They returned home and went straight to Jeanette Kensington’s room. Lorraine Warren locked the door and faced Jeanette, her eyes darting away, as if she couldn’t bring herself to look up.

"Jeanette, Mom..."

Tears streamed down Jeanette Kensington’s face, her eyes bloodshot as she demanded of Lorraine Warren, "What did he mean just now? Why did you give him money? Couldn’t you have just thrown out a lowlife like him? We could’ve called the police! Why did you give him the money? Did he scare you? Say something! Hurry up and say it!!"

"Jeanette, you need to calm down." Lorraine Warren sighed, lowering her head. "He wasn’t like this over twenty years ago. He was sentenced to twenty-eight years in prison for accidentally stabbing someone. I never imagined that he would get hooked on gambling shortly after his release and turn into... this degenerate wreck."

"What do you mean by that..." Jeanette Kensington took a step back, staring at her mother in disbelief. "Why aren’t you explaining this to me?" She forced a bitter smile. "Mom, don’t you owe me an explanation?"

Lorraine Warren looked at Jeanette Kensington, tears welling in her own eyes. "You’re all grown up now," she said. "And things being as they are, I don’t want to hide this from you any longer. It’s better you know so you can be prepared."

"Lee Warren used to be a good friend to both me and Jackson. When Jackson left for university, I packed a bag and secretly ran away from home to follow him. I took a job at a restaurant near campus just to be close to him. But Jackson was busy with his studies and had very little time for me. Lee Warren was the one who helped me out on many occasions, and I was so grateful to him... Eventually, Jackson met Lee Warren through me, and the three of us became very good friends. And then..."

A bitter smile touched Lorraine Warren’s lips. "Later, Jackson got together with Rose Kenway. He was afraid she would find out about us, so he told me not to see him anymore. He promised that once he made it big, he’d buy me a house and let me live in comfort. But I wasn’t a fool. I knew he had abandoned me. He’d latched onto a rich, beautiful heiress—why would he ever give me a second glance?"

"Lee Warren was a good man back then. He was hardworking and resilient. He wasn’t very educated, but he treated me so well. So, I... I got together with him. We lived together for a long time, until Jackson Kensington came back to me. He was crying about how miserable he was with the Kenway Family and asked if I was willing to take him back... I had always loved him. All I could think about was being with him again, so I... I dumped Lee Warren."

"I only found out later that Lee Warren had gotten drunk and seriously injured someone in a fight. He came begging Jackson for help, but Jackson refused. I think that might be why Lee Warren resents us so much. Out of guilt, I’ve given him hundreds of thousands over the years, but I never expected that he would never be satisfied. He got addicted to gambling. He’s a degenerate gambler now, nothing like the man he used to be."

Lost in her memories, Lorraine Warren let out a sigh.

When she looked up, she found Jeanette Kensington’s face streaked with tears, looking as if she had been dealt a devastating blow.

"Jeanette..."

Lorraine Warren reached for her, but Jeanette Kensington flinched away. Her eyes were bloodshot. "So... you’re telling me my real father is that lowlife, that gambling addict... that disgusting man who’s no better than a beggar?!"

With a heavy heart, Lorraine Warren nodded. "I held on to some wishful thinking, but I knew for sure when you needed a blood transfusion at age three and I found out your blood type."

Jeanette Kensington collapsed to the floor.

Lorraine Warren reached down to help her up. "Jeanette, my daughter..."

"Don’t touch me! Don’t you touch me!" Jeanette Kensington shrieked, pointing an accusing finger at Lorraine Warren. In a voice filled with hatred, she spat, "Why did you have to be so wanton?"

"What did you just say...?" Lorraine Warren’s hand froze in mid-air. She stared at Jeanette Kensington in disbelief, her voice filled with anguish. "How could you say that to me? I’m your mother!"

Jeanette Kensington shook her head, her voice firm and resolute. "No, you’re not. I don’t have a gambling addict for a father, and I certainly don’t have a wanton mother like you! My name is Kensington! My father is Jackson Kensington! It can’t be that disgusting man you described!"

Lorraine Warren stood rooted to the spot, weeping silently, at a complete loss for words.

She hadn’t expected Jeanette Kensington’s reaction to be so vehement.

She had thought that since Jeanette was older now, she would be more mature about such things.

Jeanette Kensington clutched her head, sobbing hysterically. "How could you do this to me? How could you and that disgusting man do this to me?! I’ve been fighting with Naomi Kenway for so long, I’ve been filled with so much resentment, and now you’re telling me it was all a lie? That my father is a lie, my identity is a lie... How am I supposed to live?"

Lorraine Warren knelt on the floor and pulled her into an embrace. "Who says it’s a lie? It’s not a lie. You deserve all of this. Only a few of us know about it, so don’t worry. I will keep Lee Warren under control. I’ll make sure he never runs his mouth. You will always be the little princess of the Kensington Family. Once the Kenway Family changes its name, Mom will have your father transfer his company shares to you, alright? No one will dare to bully you..."

Jeanette Kensington sagged in Lorraine Warren’s arms, apparently exhausted from crying. Her head lolled to the side, and she fainted.

"Jeanette!!"

"What are you looking at? You look so focused." Ethan Shaw took off his suit jacket and walked over.

Naomi Kenway, wearing a pair of round-framed glasses, was carefully jotting down notes. She turned at the sound of his voice. "You’re back? Did you pick up our son?"

Ethan Shaw nodded. "He worked up a sweat playing soccer today, so he’s in his room taking a bath now. On the way home, I bought him a new rubber ducky. He excitedly plopped it in the tub, so I imagine he’ll be in there for a while."

He sat down beside Naomi Kenway and saw her staring intently at the documents in front of her. He couldn’t help but pout. "Are those really so interesting? More interesting than me?"

He couldn’t resist wrapping his arm around Naomi Kenway’s shoulders, gently inhaling the scent of her hair before planting a few soft kisses among the strands.

"I’ve only been gone for a few hours, and I’ve missed you like crazy."

"How come I never noticed you were so cheesy before?"

"You didn’t used to like it."

"Hey—" Amidst Naomi Kenway’s gasp of surprise, Ethan Shaw pulled her into his lap. His large, well-defined hand rested securely on her waist as he raised an eyebrow with a grin. "So? Do you like it now?"

"You know I don’t usually like all that sappy stuff, but..." Her tone shifted, and she cleared her throat, seeming a little surprised at herself. "When you say it... it’s not so bad."

"Because it’s me?"

"Mhm."

Ethan Shaw lowered his head and captured her lips in a kiss.

When the kiss ended, Naomi Kenway looked up, breathless, and saw that his beautifully shaped lips had turned a deeper shade of red.

"Not bad," she teased. "You’ve improved."

Ethan Shaw laughed with delight and gave her another quick peck on the lips.

Sensing his intentions, Naomi Kenway quickly stopped him. "Nope. I still have work to do."
