The Unwanted Mate

Chapter 87

Chapter 87

[Four months later]

It's been months since that happened. Slowly, the pack members moved on but the people in the packhouse still had it in their heart as an open wound.

The training felt dull and forced.

They didn't celebrate anything for a while because no one could even smile heartily.

The loss of the beta was still a lot to take in for everyone.

Evelyn trained with the warriors because she wanted to keep her abilities in check. Keiran and Niya helped her as much as they could.

Rain often spent his time cooking or drawing. His cheerful personality was no more. The boy rarely smiled and was silent most of the time.

Calvin tried his best to not let Rain fall into depression. He was worried sick whenever the omega had a panic attack or break down.

"Hey, " Keiran called Calvin.

The beta looked up from the weapons. They were both in the arsenal at the moment.

"We need to go to the study. Mom said all the elders want to talk to us. Go bring Rain with you, "

"Elders? " The beta raised a brow. "Why so suddenly? Is there any problem? "

"I don't think so. She didn't sound worried or anything. She just said they wanted to talk to us, " The alpha shrugged.

Calvin put the weapon down with a sigh. "I'll go get Rain and meet you in the study, " He nodded as he walked towards the door.

Keiran only hummed before he went off to find his mate.

"Oh, you guys are here, " Scarlett said when she saw the four of them enter the study.

All the elders were sitting there, watching them all with a small smile.

"I want you guys to meet someone, " Scarlett said suddenly and stepped aside to show a lady sitting there behind her.

Evelyn frowned. The lady was looking at them in amusement. She smiled wide as she stood up.

"This is Sofia. She was my classmate in college. She's half wolf and half witch, " The former luna introduced her friend and Sofia stepped forward and extended her hand.

She shook hands with everyone with an infectious smile on her face before she looked at Evelyn. "So you really exist… "

The omega raised a brow when she heard the lady. "What do you mean by that? "

"I've heard a lot about forest spirits and I always thought they were only a legend…I never thought I'd get to see one, " Sofia beamed. "I got to see a gifted one… "

"Gifted one? "

"Yes, you have powers, right? If yes, then you're gifted, "

Evelyn couldn't help but scoff. "Oh believe me, if my powers are anything, they're more of a curse than a gift, "

Sofia's smile faltered. "What… ? "

"My powers are the reason why I lost a lot of loved ones..... I would've been happier being a normal wolf, "

"Evelyn…, " Scarlett gently called her name when she saw the omega's face.

Evelyn looked down with a sigh. "I'm sorry, I'm just so—"

"It's okay, dear," Sofia cut off the omega. "It's never easy to be different. I understand because I grew up among humans, " She chuckled. "You must have lost all faith and hope but you need to know that you came here with a purpose, "

Evelyn looked up. "What?"

"Forest spirits are the chosen ones, dear. Goddess of nature chooses them and gives them abilities to control different elements. Your powers are to protect nature and preserve it. You're born for something great so don't think all your hardships were for nothing, " Sofia patted the girl's back. "I never thought I'd meet a forest spirit. You look so soft and fragile for someone who holds that much power, " She chuckled.

Evelyn was still frozen, trying to process what she just heard. "How do you know about all this? " She raised a brow, eyeing the lady in front of her intently.

"I research a lot, " The lady chuckled. "I was adopted by a human family and I grew up not knowing much about myself so when I experienced some changes in me, I started researching about it. It became a hobby later. I like to know about all types of supernatural things that exist, " Sofia said with a bright smile.

Evelyn nodded. "Seems like an interesting thing to do,"

Scarlett stepped forward. "Let's all sit down. We need to talk to you all about something, " She said and made all of them sit on the sofa.

She took her friend's hand and they both sat down on a couch opposite to them. Scarlett cleared her throat before she spoke up. "Umm… we all know that you guys are still not over what happened… . that day…. It was a thing that we never thought would happen… but we can't let it affect us like this…" She sighed.

"The pack is gloomy because the pack leaders are… There's no joy in the pack. A lot of members don't celebrate anything because they feel guilty thinking they're moving on too soon. We can't let this continue… so we made a decision… . "

The young pairs looked at Scarlett in confusion.

"What decision? " Calvin questioned.

Scarlett looked at her mate, signaling him to say it.

"We think a change would be nice for you all, " Keiran's father spoke up. "I think this atmosphere is what's keeping you guys from moving on, "

"What change are you talking about? I don't understand, " Keiran frowned.

"We planned a vacation, "

"Vacation?"

"Yes, we think you guys need to relax a little bit. It's the best way to heal. What do you think? "

Keiran looked down. "It's not a bad thing…We can consider it if everyone agrees… "

"Umm…I-I'm sorry but I-I don't want to… '' Rain fiddled with his shirt sleeve as he spoke.

Scarlett's smile faltered. "Rain… what's wrong, honey?" She asked worriedly.

The omega nervously looked down, feeling the pressure of everyone's gaze on him.

Calvin gently wrapped his arms around the boy, pulling him to his chest. The beta's pheromones calmed his mate.

"I-I don't want to be a-around a lot of p-people for now… I'm just-I'm just not ready… "

"Oh, don't worry about that, dear, " Scarlett's smile came back in a second. "You won't have to be around a lot of people because you're going to a private Island. There'll be only some workers other than you four on the Island, "

"A private Island? " Evelyn's eyes widened. "That must be so expensive… "

"The owner is our business partner so don't worry and we're not short on money either, " Scarlett chuckled.

"So when is it? And for how many days?" Calvin asked.

"Three days later and you can spend a week there, "

"Sounds cool, " Keiran shrugged.

Evelyn turned to Rain. "What do you say? Are you comfortable going there?"

The rain stayed silent for a moment before he nodded. "If it helps everyone to move on… I think it's not a bad idea, " He smiled.

"Perfect! " Scarlett chirped. "Then it's decided. So start planning what you guys are going to do when you get there and make the most of it, "

Keiran's father smiled. "I hope this trip changes how things are now, "

The alpha looked up. "Me too, " Keiran heaved a sigh before turning towards his mate.

He just wanted Evelyn to be happy again.
