Chapter 748: Amadeus, You’re Being a Bit Too Fidgety_1
Master Cadmus spoke even faster than she could think of a refusal, "Don’t be so quick to reject me. I’m not saying you have to force yourself into biomedical engineering, but you could come by and have a look when you have time. Who knows, you might find it interesting later on...right?"
Faced with such a proposition, Nathalie Quinlan found it hard to decline. To do so would seem impolite. She raised her hand resignedly and said, "I’ll try my best."
"Then it’s settled," Master Cadmus replied with a smile, a visible sign of his happiness. Just then, the results from the experimental reactor were ready, and he directed a few people nearby to record its data. Once that was done, he made time for Nathalie to perform acupuncture on him.
Acupuncture was quite time-consuming.
Yesterday, it had taken Nathalie over four hours to complete the treatment.
Today went better, taking just over two hours before Master Cadmus finally came around.
Nathalie removed the needles from his acupoints one by one, packed them up, and put them in her bag. Then, she chatted with Master Cadmus for a while.
The group didn’t leave The Ninth Institute’s research base until after that.
Brian Bonette had other matters to attend to. He tactfully exchanged a few words with them before leaving. On the way back, it was only Nathalie and Amadeus Yancey, along with Mario Cagwin and Alfred Garland left.
Initially, Mario walked alongside Nathalie.
As they proceeded, Alfred found an opportunity to casually pull Mario back, allowing the gap between the front pair and themselves to widen.
The temperature in Beijing had plummeted these past few days, yet Amadeus Yancey was dressed in light clothing—a black thin sweater beneath a long overcoat. His tall, lean frame looked extraordinary and striking as ever.
He slowed his pace to walk alongside the girl, his thin lips constantly curved upwards, clearly in a good mood.
Halfway through, he suddenly stopped and asked the girl who halted with him, "Are you cold?"
"Huh?" Nathalie blinked, her long, curled eyelashes looking exceptionally beautiful.
Amadeus naturally took her hand, felt it, and then chuckled. His eyes shimmered like the bright glistening waves of water, captivating and bright, "Tsk, the tips of your fingers are a bit cold."
As he spoke, he removed his scarf from around his neck, bent down, and carefully wrapped it around the girl’s neck. He wound it carefully, layer upon layer, until the warmth of the scarf enveloped her completely. Then, lifting his hands, he gently ruffled the hair atop her head tenderly, his voice holding a restrained fondness, "Did you eat the breakfast Alfred brought you this morning?"
With most of her face wrapped in the scarf, Nathalie’s beautiful eyes were the only features free. She seemed somewhat overwhelmed by his series of actions, her brows knitting together, but she didn’t flinch. Her fair skin, against the dark scarf, appeared even whiter, like the delicate translucence of porcelain glaze.
"Yes, I ate it. The shrimp dumplings were tasty. Did you get them from Imperial Hotel?"
Seeing that she didn’t shy away, Amadeus grew bolder and ruffled her hair once more. His lips quirked up in an allure, seemingly unaware of his own charm, "I lined up there after getting up at six thirty in the morning."
This time Nathalie did dodge. After evading, she remarked with a spark of challenge, "Amadeus has to queue up?"
She seemed to recall Sadam Vinson mentioning, in passing, that Amadeus was one of the shadow owners of Imperial Hotel. Did an owner need to wait in line for his own establishment’s offerings?
Her question raised Amadeus’s eyebrows as he stared straight at her, their eyes meeting. He chuckled again, his voice as deep and resonant as a bass drum, rich and enchanting, "Before coming here, I suddenly remembered their breakfast was quite good, and you hadn’t tried it yet, so I drove over there on a whim. It was very sudden, and they weren’t prepared in the kitchen, so I ended up waiting there for an hour."
