Chapter 739: They’ve Been Enemies for a Long Time_1
Myles Sullivan didn’t speak, but she annoyed him considerably. He pulled a pack of cigarettes out of his bag, took one out, and lit it.
The cigarette was clamped between his fingers. He seemed so irked he could barely stand it, yet he still hadn’t smoked it.
With the cigarette still posed between his fingers, Myles lifted his head and asked her seriously, "Do you think there’s any chance of repairing our relationship with Nathalie?"
Ivy Wilmar: "No."
The cigarette in Myles’s hand started to burn his fingers, so he pressed the lit end into the marble ashtray beside him, his brow furrowed with frustration. "Not even a little?"
"No," Ivy Wilmar said decisively, and looking back at him, she couldn’t help finding it a bit funny and shared his sense of brooding. "Stop thinking about winning her over!"
Myles Sullivan: "..."
He didn’t want to think about it either.
But today, while he was out schmoozing, everyone was talking about a student who had performed astoundingly well on the Joint Entrance Exam.
That student was his niece. He used to stand up with a smile and seemingly casually let slip that piece of information.
This time, however, even though he knew everyone at the table was discussing Nathalie Quinlan, he couldn’t admit he knew her. It was excruciating.
He barely ate a few bites of his meal.
Nathalie Quinlan’s performance was so exceptional that as soon as Tsinghua University released the results that morning, all of Beijing was abuzz about it. Ivy was part of that circle and had certainly heard similar rumors.
Seeing Myles’s so dejected he could hardly speak, Ivy took a deep breath and metaphorically dumped cold water on him, "With what happened with Jecksen, we’ve made an enemy of her. She used to have a good relationship with you, but because of me, it’s impossible for her to be like she was with you before. She always protects the Cagwin family, and she didn’t forget that Jecksen had someone beat up Freddy Cagwin and almost cost him his chance at education. She already told us before, she’d let Jecksen off the hook, but that it squared things with us..."
Myles remembered the girl’s indifferent look when she said those words, both wild and cold.
Nathalie Quinlan was indeed someone who did what she said, never one to drag her feet.
Having said they were even, she hadn’t responded to his messages!
His heart grew increasingly bitter.
If only they hadn’t taken things too far before, it wouldn’t have come to this.
Nathalie Quinlan had scored first place at Tsinghua University, and they could have basked in her glory.
Keep in mind, Nathalie’s first place wasn’t just any first place—it was a perfect score, something Tsinghua University had never seen before.
It was said that the Beijing Education Bureau was astir; they had already called a meeting with schools following the incident. The gist was that while recruiting was one thing, all should compete fairly and healthily, and neither Tsinghua University nor Southern University should escalate the rivalry over students.
Even so, several dozen first-tier universities had gone to McKinney, flocking to No. 1 Middle School to court students.
"Nathalie, she..."
Ivy interrupted his daydreaming with a tone of indifference: "Ghania also got into Tsinghua University with good scores, ranking 19th. Although I’m still angry at her for acting clever in Jecksen’s case and getting him all over the news, I am satisfied with her results."
She knew Myles had also heard about Nathalie studying under Shawn Norton and continued, "Moreover, at this music exchange, I’ve already spoken with Master Steven. He has agreed to publicly take Ghania as his disciple during the exchange. While I did have a hand in fostering that relationship, ultimately, Master Steven agreed because he really loves that piece Ghania composed before!"
