Chapter 674: We’ve Met, Let’s Eat Together_1
A group of people had extremely animated expressions, yet Derliand Gober hadn’t noticed. After speaking off the cuff, he indeed felt that it was a bit too coincidental. He turned his head and asked Jeff Quinlan and his group, "Nathalie Quinlan isn’t related to you all, is she?"
Jeff Quinlan and Emilia Sullivan: "..."
He didn’t realize that the atmosphere had become embarrassingly tense as he laughed and said, "I see that they all come from the same place and previously studied at the same school, and their ages are similar. I was just curious, but it’s alright if they’re not related. Maybe it’s fate."
Ivy Wilmar took a deep breath, her face color turning from green to black, and then back from black to green, with all the suppressed anger about to explode in her chest. She couldn’t take it anymore.
Her status in Beijing was not ordinary, and she had never encountered such an awkward situation before. More importantly, she was stuck in this awkwardness without the option to leave; she had to stand there, straight as a pole, enduring repeated face slaps.
The person slapping her face wasn’t even an outsider but Derliand Gober, whom she had painstakingly invited from Beijing!
And he was genuinely unaware, leaving her unable to blame him!
Nathalie... how could she have scored first place?
Her result really must have been a fluke.
Nathalie was already extremely impatient. She took out her phone, wanting to check it, but it was inconvenient to do so in the presence of her elders. Standing here continuing to listen to Derliand Gober’s endless prattle was more than she could bear, especially with the Quinlan family’s group casting glances at her from time to time, making her feel even more irritated.
Feeling annoyed, she fished a bottle of chewing gum from her pocket and poured out a white pill, casually chewing on it.
Shawn Norton watched her casually consume a small pill that couldn’t even be bought outside, feeling extremely pained, but he never questioned how Nathalie dealt with her belongings.
Noticing Nathalie’s impatience, Shawn turned his head and asked the defiant girl in a low voice, "Nathalie, shall we go together?"
He didn’t mind either way; it mainly depended on Nathalie’s preference.
Derliand Gober also heard Shawn Norton asking for the girl’s opinion and said to Nathalie with a smile, "Nathalie Quinlan, let’s go together. You and Ghania Quinlan are both from this year’s Tsinghua University cohort. It’d be good to get to know more people, so you have someone to look out for you in college later. You are about the same age; you probably have a lot of common topics."
Ivy Wilmar’s performance had disappointed him greatly, so he simply bypassed her, motioning with his eyes for Ghania to say a few words.
When Ghania caught his suggestive gaze, the skin of her palm almost tore from squeezing so hard. She raised her head and said hesitatingly, "Well... now that we’ve met, let’s have a meal together."
As she spoke, her face felt burning hot, so much so that she wished she could vanish into a crack in the ground.
Yet, her eyes stubbornly remained fixed, forcing herself to stare at the proudly standing girl, with her lips pursed and the corners of her mouth slightly lifted in a smile.
"Since we’ll be at the same university, we can look out for each other."
As she spoke, she subtly glanced towards an elder by Nathalie’s side.
She truly wished to become a disciple of Mr. Norton, who was her shortcut to quickly integrate into Beijing’s upper social circles.
Not even Derliand Gober had such a status.
If dining together could give her an opportunity to bring up this matter using Nathalie’s influence, she wouldn’t mind temporarily burying the hatchet with Nathalie.
Her calculations were precise.
Yet Nathalie, with half-closed eyes and a smirk, clicked her tongue and boldly met her gaze, "You want to have a meal with me?"
"I..." Ghania always felt overshadowed in presence, but the temptation of being with Shawn was too great. Even though she was infuriated, she still forced herself to speak softly, "I just think since we both come from the same place, we’ll inevitably need to look out for each other once we’re in Beijing. It’s always better to have one more friend than one less."
