Chapter 584: It’s Only Logical to Let the Daughter-in-Law Answer the Phone_1

In the car.

Nathalie Quinlan was playing with her phone, her head bowed as her fingers frequently tapped the screen, seemingly absorbed in replying to someone’s message.

Amadeus Yancey rested one hand on the steering wheel, his other elbow on the car window edge, emitting an air of nonchalance that contrasted with his previously assertive demeanor. Glancing up through the rear-view mirror, he asked the girl beside him, "Where are we heading next?"

Quinlan had just replied to a message from Justin Wafford. On hearing the question, she lifted her head and, after a moment’s thought, said, "Let’s go home. I want to look up some information."

She had visited Uncle Cagwin in the hospital that morning and the condition of his legs was not good. After talking to the orthopedic doctor, she learned that Uncle Cagwin’s femoral heads showed signs of necrosis due to lying in bed for years. If this continued, even if medical technology advanced, it was unlikely that Uncle Cagwin would be able to undergo surgery...

She had reviewed all the domestic literature on long-term bedridden paralysis leading to limb damage, but Uncle Cagwin’s situation was complex, and many of the cases described were not applicable to his condition.

Quinlan wanted to search online outside the country to see if there were any similar cases.

"Alright," Amadeus said as he reversed the car single-handedly. The Phaeton’s interior was spacious, and he noticed Quinlan was wearing thin clothes, just a thin sweater over her head, on such a cold day. She didn’t seem cold, though she was slightly huddled, and he couldn’t tell if she really wasn’t cold.

He raised his eyebrows, withdrew his arm from the car window, rolled the window up, and turned on the air conditioner without a trace.

Audrick Zachmann had had this car specially modified at the 4S shop; everything within was the highest specification available for this model.

The air conditioning was no exception!

When the air blew, it was neither stifling nor uncomfortably warm but comfortably cozy.

Nathalie hadn’t noticed his offhand gestures, but as her neck suddenly felt less cold, she looked up to see the closed car window, pursed her lips, and said nothing, though something stirred within her.

Just then.

His phone on the side began to ring.

Seeing that he was driving, Quinlan instinctively picked up the phone, glanced at the caller ID, handed it to him, and asked in a low voice, "It’s Alfred Garland’s call. Do you want to answer?"

Amadeus didn’t reach for the phone but said naturally, "I’m driving, can you answer it for me?"

"..." Quinlan’s brow furrowed unconsciously; she glanced at his obviously free right hand, then, dark eyes flickering to the display in front, she turned on the car’s Bluetooth and answered the call.

"Hello, Amadeus!" Alfred Garland’s robust voice filled the car.

Quinlan had turned on the car’s Bluetooth and the volume was high. Coupled with Garland’s boisterous voice, the volume became even louder.

The noise gave her a headache, and she reached out to lower the volume before drawing back her hand to continue playing with her phone.

"Hello? Amadeus? Why is there no response? Uh, did the call not go through?"

She could hear the rustling background sound even as her head was lowered, and after a while, she heard Garland’s puzzled voice arise again.

"Strange, it did go through. How come there’s no sound?"

"Hello, Amadeus, can you hear me?" he asked again, talking to himself before clinging to the phone.

Amadeus Yancey focused on the road ahead, driving while listening to Garland show off his lack of smarts—a real headache, and he didn’t want to engage with him. Still, to prevent him from flaunting his intellectual shortcomings in front of Quinlan any further, he forced a smile and slowly said, "I can hear you; go ahead."

"Amadeus, you can hear me, then why didn’t you say anything just now?" Garland immediately pounced on the question, his tone filled with frustration.

Amadeus Yancey: "..."

Because you never gave me a chance to speak!

But Garland wasn’t truly expecting an answer. Recalling the information he had just received, he didn’t wait for Yancey to respond but excitedly exclaimed, "The Ninth Institute just sent a message, saying they found the goods, and they got customs to successfully hold the shipment!"
