Chapter 482: Go Over Alone First_1

Nathalie chatted with her for a few more moments before hanging up.

Just as she ended the call, an anxious Justin Wafford by her side asked, "So Nathalie, did you find Freddy Cagwin? Where is he? Why did I just hear you mention the police station? Surely, Freddy isn’t at the police station, is he?"

He blurted out four or five questions in rapid succession, wishing he had the ears of a lynx to have heard what Nathalie was saying on the phone.

With furrowed brows, Justin found it unlikely: "How could Freddy end up at the police station and not attend school for two days? What could he have done, gotten into a fight?"

He knew that Freddy had been mingling with some unsavory characters from society for a while, but since returning to the class, Freddy’s demeanor had become much more restrained. He studied more diligently than anyone else in class, always the first to arrive for early morning self-study, the first to finish his homework and help his mother at her stall after school, and also spent nights at the bookstore, copying exercise materials into his notebook to work on at home. How could a student so hard-working and focused on getting into college possibly get involved in a fight and end up at the police station just before the entrance exams?

Justin felt it couldn’t be real: "Could there be some mistake?"

Nathalie didn’t elaborate much on Freddy’s situation, mainly because she was not clear about what had happened to him. She slung her single shoulder bag over her shoulder, her gaze fierce, and said to the boy who was pressing her for answers, "You go back first. Tell them there’s no need to look for him for now, I’m going to check out the police station."

"I’ll go with you!" Justin said, dragging his suitcase and ready to follow her.

Nathalie, with a stern look, brimmed her cap to hide the emotions in her eyes and stopped him, "No need, I’ll go alone first. If anything comes up, I’ll let you know."

She explained as patiently as she could: "His situation isn’t suitable for too many visitors."

Justin was sharp, even Stanley Zachmann had praised him for his intelligence. Having grown up in an affluent family, he was much more sophisticated in social matters than his peers. He instantly understood what Nathalie meant.

Freddy was very proud. If he ever got into such trouble, he too wouldn’t want his ’classmates’ prying into it.

"Sigh," he sighed in resignation, holding onto the handle of his suitcase with a hint of dejection, "Alright then, Nathalie, just remember to keep me posted. I’ll tell Jhovany Sullivan and the others that there’s no need to search..."

As he spoke, he thoughtfully added, "Don’t worry, I won’t tell them about Freddy being at the police station. I’ll make up an excuse on my way and text it to you later. We can coordinate our stories to avoid any slip-ups."

"Alright," Nathalie agreed, finding this the better option.

On the way to the airport, Justin flagged down two taxis and let her get in first.

Eager to reach the police station, Nathalie didn’t stand on ceremony with him. After exchanging a few words, she closed the car door, leaned back in the seat, and, with a furrowed brow, said to the driver in front, "Driver, take me to the Almeda Street police station."

Watching her, a young girl rushing to the police station straight from the airport without any luggage, the driver thought she might have been robbed. As he stepped on the accelerator, he couldn’t resist prying through the rearview mirror, "Alright. You’re from out of town, aren’t you? Visiting McKinney? Did someone steal your suitcase? Tsk, that’s the airport for you, all sorts of people. Be careful when traveling alone in McKinney. If your things get stolen, it’s usually tough to retrieve them. Let’s hope whoever took your money left your suitcase nearby. Otherwise, losing your ID would be a real hassle..."
