Chapter 733: From Intimate Affection to Ruthless Falling Out in the Blink of an Eye
Nathan Leclair’s words clearly carried a hidden meaning, suggesting something unspoken. Delphine felt a chill run through her as she realized her palms were damp with sweat, only noticing this when Ignatius Leclair’s car arrived.
"What’s wrong?" Ignatius Leclair noticed her pale complexion. His phoenix-shaped eyes narrowed as he reached out to touch her fair, porcelain-like face. His voice was low and deeply concerned as he asked.
Delphine shook her head and avoided explaining in detail. She merely said that Kyla Zamora was injured and had gone to the hospital, and mentioned that they ought to visit the hospital.
"Let’s eat first, then head to the hospital," Ignatius Leclair suggested after noticing her sluggish manner. He seemed to sense she hadn’t had the chance to eat since leaving early in the morning. Through the car’s tinted rear window, his gaze briefly scanned the private club outside, flashing a subtle look of contemplation.
When Ignatius Leclair received the message, he had been in a meeting. Having been away for over a month during a time when his South Asian rivals were particularly active, a mountain of work had accumulated—so much that he hadn’t even had lunch yet.
Maximilian parked the car in front of a Shandong restaurant, booked a private room, and ordered the food. During the waiting moments before the dishes arrived, Ignatius Leclair dealt with some urgent matters. The man did not speak much, but when he did, his words were cuttingly incisive and boldly pointed. His thought processes shifted quickly; most of the time, he pinpointed the crux of an issue succinctly, while Maximilian jotted down notes and followed through.
It was rare for Delphine to see Ignatius Leclair at work. Watching him with his phoenix eyes filled with a cold, sharp glint, his expression serious and severe, she was struck by how vastly different he was compared to his demeanor at home. Her mind wandered to Nathan Leclair’s words.
Those absurd, nonsensical hints seemed to have sprouted roots inside her consciousness, emerging at intervals to disrupt her thoughts. It made her increasingly feel as though the past few months were nothing but an elaborate dream.
With their shared information and memories, it was nearly impossible to distinguish between Ignatius Leclair and Magnus Leclair’s personalities. Delphine’s previous method of distinguishing them had been Ignatius Leclair’s attitude toward her—if the second personality adored her, the primary personality despised her, and vice versa.
Even Delphine herself couldn’t determine which of the two personas was present. If, all this time, it had always been Ignatius Leclair... The mere thought of it sent shivers down her spine, chilling her to the bone.
"What are you daydreaming about?" Ignatius Leclair finished handling his urgent matters and noticed Delphine sitting there dazed, lost in thought. He immediately reached out and pinched her chin, his phoenix eyes glimmering with a cryptic smile as he teased her.
On the side, Maximilian nearly lost his grip, scattering documents across the floor. Ignatius Leclair’s attitude toward Miss Delphine had always been enigmatic and unpredictable—previously icy cold, now passionately clingy. His deep affection and sudden indifference could shift in the blink of an eye. Anyone else in her position would likely have been driven mad by it, but fortunately, Miss Delphine had a naturally reserved and unruffled disposition.
Delphine raised her eyes to meet his gaze. His phoenix eyes were the most distinctive feature, their pupils as dark as ink and resembling the black feathers of a raven in flight against the autumnal skies of the Wujiang River. There was always a faint yet undeniable coldness within them, pulling people into their depths against their will. She shook her head and asked, "Why don’t I see Arthur White around anymore?"
After the car accident, Arthur White hadn’t appeared again.
Delphine found it puzzling. By all accounts, Arthur White was the most capable person beside Ignatius Leclair. After all, back then, he had directly intervened in many of their affairs.
"I dismissed him. He was annoying to look at," Ignatius Leclair responded flatly, extending his hand to hold hers—soft and delicate.
Delphine nodded, and a sudden sense of clarity washed over her. Arthur White had always been Ignatius Leclair’s shadow. What she was seeing before her must be Magnus Leclair; otherwise, there was no reason for him to send Arthur White away.
How could she allow herself to spiral into self-doubt just because Nathan Leclair had said some casual words?
Relief settled into Delphine’s chest, and with it came an appetite. Her expression softened as she said, "I’m hungry."
Her tone carried an instinctive, playful sweetness, reminiscent of Benjamin Leclair affectionately rubbing his small tummy while whining for food.
Ignatius Leclair’s brows furrowed imperceptibly, the depth in his gaze intensifying as he replied in a low, indulgent tone, "Food will be ready soon."
