Chapter 713: All of a man’s sudden kindness to a woman is because of infidelity
After two days, Leah came to visit Nicholas and Benjamin. When she saw the tall and cold figure in Delphine’s living room, she raised an eyebrow. No wonder Griffith Squire hadn’t been home recently—it turned out Ignatius Leclair had moved in. What a vexing sight.
As soon as Leah arrived, the man deliberately went upstairs to the study.
"You two got back together?" Leah propped her chin up, watching Delphine wash fruits. She blinked and asked directly.
"Not exactly," Delphine responded quietly as she arranged the fruits on a plate, wiped her hands dry, and said, "After the car accident, his mind hasn’t been normal. The Ignatius you see now is his second personality."
"Are you sure it’s his second personality? Be careful not to get tricked by that old fox," Leah snorted coldly and said, "Today he’s the second personality, tomorrow he could be the first. If he flips and becomes heartless again, you’ll bear the brunt of it."
Delphine let out a low chuckle, handed her the fruit plate, and joked, "I’ve already come to terms with it. If Ignatius wakes up and flips or turns heartless, so be it—what’s meant to come will come. At worst, we’ll part ways and become strangers in the future."
Leah noticed that despite her usual detached gaze, there was no longer any depression. Instead, Delphine now exuded a subtle radiance, as if she’d undergone a transformation, breaking free from her cocoon to become a butterfly. Feeling relieved, Leah smiled brightly, hooked her arm around Delphine’s, and teased mischievously, "Our Delphine is so beautiful and captivating. Any man would fall for you. If Ignatius falls in love with you, you mustn’t fall for him. This man’s got issues. You need to give him a good dose of tough love."
"Alright, why did you come to see me today?" Delphine smiled helplessly. A man like Ignatius would never fall for her, right? As Magnus had once said, these days felt borrowed, as if stolen from fate. If the day of separation truly came, her eyes briefly reflected a hint of emptiness and indifference. If such a day arrived, it would be destiny’s inevitable ending: one final farewell, and then each would go their separate ways.
After years of entanglement, she no longer felt even an ounce of unnecessary emotion.
"I’m heading to Imperial City tomorrow. Didn’t you say you needed to organize some materials for your school? Talk to Cassius Turner—I’ll bring them back for you so you don’t have to make the trip yourself," Leah said as she popped a plump grape into her mouth, narrowing her eyes in a wicked grin. "Maybe Professor Turner has been holding onto your materials just for an excuse to see you. I guess I’m playing the bad guy this time."
"Why does your place always have grapes?" Leah ate another one. Although they were incredibly sweet, there was no need to eat them every day.
"Maybe it’s because Ignatius likes them. Now Nicholas and Benjamin wrinkle their noses whenever they see grapes," Delphine laughed and said, "I’ll order some other fruits. Usually, it’s Ignatius who takes care of the groceries."
"Tsk, tsk, tsk, I can’t believe Ignatius Leclair has turned into a househusband. You’ve really outdone yourself," Leah teased her, then shifted her tone and whispered conspiratorially, "The bigger the changes in a man, the more likely it is he’s done something he regrets. When a man suddenly treats a woman too well, eight or nine times out of ten, it’s because he’s been unfaithful. In your case, it might not be infidelity—but it could be something else that he feels guilty about."
Leah nodded earnestly at Delphine.
Ignatius had been waiting upstairs in the study for ages. Unable to bear Leah’s lingering any longer, he finally came downstairs—only to overhear her provocative remarks. His handsome face darkened halfway. This woman deserved to be packed off to Imperial City and locked up by Old Xie in a room where she couldn’t leave, so she wouldn’t corrupt his wife.
Ha, he’d already been sleeping on the floor for three days straight. If this continued—Ignatius narrowed his eyes with a cold smile.
