Chapter 690: Delphine Carter, Must Die
Chapter 690: Delphine Carter, Must Die
Delphine was holding Benjamin, and Leah was holding Nicholas as they stepped out of the Cantonese restaurant. It was early afternoon, and there were few pedestrians on the street.
The bodyguards went to fetch the car, and the two women stood at the intersection, holding hands with the children and chatting.
"For the next few days, be extra cautious when you go out. That woman, Melody, might not let things go easily," Leah reminded her. "I’ve already asked Griffith to assign people to keep an eye on her."
Delphine nodded and replied, "I’ll be careful. You should be too. Last time Richard came by, did you ask him about what happened in Imperial City before?"
Leah’s peach blossom-shaped eyes flickered a little. She curved her lips and whispered softly by Delphine’s ear, "I didn’t have the time to ask."
Seeing her expression, Delphine smiled knowingly.
"What are you smiling at? You must never let this slip. If Griffith finds out, he’ll definitely go to Imperial City and beat him up," Leah stomped her foot and, unusually, acted childishly.
"Alright, alright," Delphine said with a chuckle, her arm being shaken back and forth.
Melody sat in her car at the corner, gripping the steering wheel tightly, staring at the two radiant and carefree women at the intersection. Her eyes burned red, and a trace of madness and resentment flashed across her gaze. How could it be? The timid, bullied orphan who never dared to speak up now exuded confidence with such an dazzling aura, had two adorable children, and even occupied the position of Mrs. Leclair—a dream Melody had longed for.
She had nothing left—no reputation, no status. Every time she went out, strangers whispered about her. Her life was utterly destroyed; the Cloud Family was in chaos, teetering on the edge of bankruptcy. Yet Delphine Carter had everything. How was that fair?
If she were to die, that would fix everything. She had stolen everything that should have been hers. Delphine had to die. A sinister and unhinged glint appeared in Melody’s eyes as her trembling hands reached for her phone and dialed Ignatius Leclair’s number.
The man was driving when someone intercepted Leah’s bodyguards and car. He drove out of the parking garage himself, searching for Delphine’s location. Seeing Melody’s call, his almond-shaped eyes narrowed slightly, a trace of cold light flashing as he answered. His tone was detached as he spoke: "Speak."
"Ignatius Leclair, you’ll remember me for the rest of your life, forever," Melody said in a low voice, her gaze locked on Delphine and the two joyful children playing hand-in-hand, their little heads close together. Her voice was filled with uncontrollable excitement and mania.
She threw down the phone, stepped on the accelerator, and drove straight toward Delphine.
Ignatius’s face darkened as he listened to these cryptic words. Turning the steering wheel, he spotted Delphine standing at the intersection. His lips curved faintly, but the smile froze instantly when he saw the Porsche speeding toward them in the distance. His heartbeat stopped, and he didn’t have time to think—he slammed on the accelerator and charged forward.
The Bentley surged ahead but was promptly struck by the Porsche on its side, sent flying with an earsplitting crash.
At the moment the Porsche lunged forward, Delphine and Leah both sensed something was wrong. Instinctively, they tightly embraced the two children, shielding them with their bodies. They tilted slightly, bracing themselves against the impact. The horrific sound of the collision echoed as tires screeched sharply against the pavement.
Leah clung tightly to Nicholas, covering his eyes and ears, her voice trembling as she stammered, "Del... Delphine, I think that Bentley belongs to Ignatius Leclair."
Delphine’s ears rang for a long while, Leah’s words seemingly echoing from a distant void. Her entire body trembled as she kissed Benjamin’s tightly shut eyes. Her face was ashen as she stared at the mangled wreckage of the Porsche and the Bentley.
She handed Benjamin over to Leah and began walking toward the Bentley, which was billowing smoke from its tail end. As she walked, the wind blurred her vision, and tears streamed down her face uncontrollably.
