the two-faced Adopted Girl Who Melted CEO's Ice-Cold Heart

Chapter 689: So Cold to a Childhood Sweetheart

Chapter 689: So Cold to a Childhood Sweetheart

Delphine saw Benjamin suddenly push the door open, tilt her little face upward, and call out "Daddy" with a radiant smile. She quickly bent down to pick up the little girl, softly and tenderly saying, "Benjamin, how about we go back and eat some more?"

"Benjamin wants Daddy." Benjamin Leclair looked at her handsome father outside the door with her big, dark eyes. Even though Daddy was bad, she still missed her Daddy.

Ignatius Leclair noticed the little girl had a new haircut and wore a pale yellow dress, looking fresh and tender like budding willow branches in spring. His heart softened, and his handsome face revealed a slight smile.

The man walked over, reaching out to pick Benjamin up. His almond-shaped eyes glanced toward Delphine, noticing that her complexion looked excellent, no longer the pallor of someone who had not seen sunlight for years. Her small face glowed with a luminous sheen. His gaze shifted slightly as he spoke in a low, gentle tone, "Did you bring Benjamin and Nicholas to eat?"

Delphine nodded without saying anything.

Melody Cloud, standing to the side, was still crying. Watching this warm scene unfold in front of her, she bit her fingernail until it broke, her face flashing with a hint of madness.

Why? Why did all of his kindness go to Delphine Carter, while he left her to die? They had grown up as childhood companions. She was the one Aunt Lan had chosen to be his wife, clearly and undoubtedly. It had to be Delphine’s seduction—it had to be that wretched woman.

Even if she died, she wouldn’t let Delphine Carter have peace. Melody’s eyes flashed with venom as she watched the stinging scene before her. Suddenly, she rushed forward, grabbed Ignatius Leclair’s arm, and pleaded desperately, "Brother Ignatius, help me, save me, save the Cloud Family. I beg you—I even visited Benjamin. Benjamin, I’m Aunt Melody!"

As Melody spoke, she lunged forward, trying to snatch Benjamin.

Ignatius Leclair saw her seemingly deranged appearance, even frightening Benjamin in his arms. His face instantly darkened as he coldly shook her off and sternly ordered, "Why hasn’t someone dragged her away yet?"

Maximilian quickly stepped forward to pull Melody away.

"Throw her out." Ignatius Leclair’s expression turned sharp, his genuine anger visible. Without sparing Melody even a glance, he carried the frightened Benjamin into the private room, soothing her gently. "Benjamin, don’t be afraid. Daddy’s here."

Benjamin’s little face had turned pale. She looked at her Daddy, then looked at her worried Mommy. Stretching her arms toward Delphine, she burrowed her little head into Delphine’s embrace, her mouth quivering as she weakly said with a sobbing tone, "Benjamin is really scared."

Delphine quickly comforted her by patting her little back, softly soothing the trembling girl.

Leah went over to calm the bewildered Nicholas Carter, whose beautiful little face showed a flicker of anger. She remarked coldly, "Truly a madwoman. People like her should’ve been locked up long ago to prevent them from harming others."

"The Cloud Family’s situation probably doesn’t look optimistic." Delphine spoke lightly. A woman as proud as Melody Cloud, personally coming to beg Ignatius Leclair—and in front of her no less—it was likely that things had really reached a dead end.

Although Delphine loathed this woman, thinking about Ignatius and Melody being childhood friends, and now Ignatius was leaving the Cloud Family to fend for themselves without intervention, his cruelty struck her. She sighed softly. In the social arena of Southeast Asia, among wealthy families, profit always came before sentiment, with scarcely any loyalty.

"Mr. Leclair," Maximilian spoke softly at the door. "Shall I reschedule today’s lunch meeting for you?"

Ignatius Leclair replied with a faint acknowledgment, then turned to Delphine and said in a low voice, "I’ll take you all home."

"There’s no need. I’ll take them home myself. Mr. Leclair should focus on resolving your problems, so as not to frighten the two children again," Leah coldly replied.

Delphine said nothing, leaving quickly with Leah, each holding one of the children.

Ignatius Leclair’s gaze grew deep as he followed them outside.
