Chapter 656 Benjamin Counts to 99, Mommy Still Hasn’t Come
Delphine arrived in Nanyang by evening, carrying a surge of anger as she stepped into the Leclair mansion. After three years away, the mansion remained unchanged, deep in the sycamores, the shadows of the trees danced gently, and the red house stood unwavering. Yet this time, the familiar fear and trembling she once felt were absent.
The old butler came to open the door, as if anticipating her return. He approached with a cheerful smile, helping her with her luggage, and glanced at Nicholas, whose features bore a 70–80% resemblance to Ignatius Leclair. The butler chuckled and said, "So this is the little young master?"
"It’s Nicholas. How’s Benjamin’s illness?" Delphine asked urgently.
"Miss Benjamin’s condition—Miss Delphine, you’ll know once you take a look." The old butler replied with a smile.
After exchanging a few polite words, Delphine hurried upstairs to the side hall to check on Benjamin.
Benjamin lay in her little princess bed, her big black eyes staring as she silently counted sheep. When she reached 99, she wriggled and asked her daddy in a soft voice, "Benjamin counted to 99, but Mommy hasn’t come yet."
The man lowered his eyes to the documents in his hands and replied indifferently, "Then start over."
"Oh." The little girl began counting sheep again, gently using her small, pink fingers. When she reached ten, she spotted her mommy and Nicholas entering, and nearly leapt out of bed in joyous excitement.
The man’s handsome, cool face remained expressionless. He reached out with his slender fingers and gently restrained the excited girl, speaking in a deep voice, "You’re still not well. Don’t move around carelessly."
Benjamin gazed at the lollipops inside the bedside drawer with her sparkling black eyes. She saw her daddy squint and nod slightly. Only then did she cover her little mouth, bury her head in her blanket, and laugh secretly. Mommy had arrived, and so had her lollipops. Ah, Benjamin was so happy.
Delphine, seeing her little girl completely buried in the blanket, immediately rushed forward in panic, calling softly, "Benjamin, what’s wrong?"
Benjamin was pulled out from under the blanket by her mommy, her pretty face flushed red from holding back her emotions. Her glistening black eyes were welling up, and she couldn’t speak, simply reaching out to hug Delphine’s neck tightly, refusing to let go.
Ignatius curled his lips slightly as he looked at Nicholas standing behind Delphine. He reached out to pull the little boy into his arms, asking gently, "Nicholas, are you tired?"
Nicholas gazed at the handsome uncle in front of him, his young heart inexplicably resisting as he struggled to stand upright and replied in a low voice, "I’m not tired. Nicholas is used to it."
This child didn’t want to come closer to him? Ignatius narrowed his phoenix-like eyes. It seemed he needed to work on building a father-son relationship.
"Mommy, Benjamin feels awful," Benjamin finally blurted out after enduring for so long, whining softly, "Benjamin feels scared. Benjamin wants Mommy."
"Alright, Mommy will stay with Benjamin," Delphine said tenderly. She had always felt guilty for not being by her baby’s side while she was growing up, and now she comforted her, encouraging Benjamin to lie back and sleep. Only then did she glare at Ignatius.
The man noticed that her delicate, pure face became all the more lively due to her anger. His gaze darkened, and his voice sank as he said, "Nicholas must be tired from the flight. Let him nap with Benjamin for a while. After dinner, you and I will talk in the study."
"Nicholas, come keep Benjamin company!" Benjamin reached out to grasp Nicholas’s small hand, tugging and swaying it as she pouted. Once Daddy left, she could pull out her lollipop spoils to show Nicholas. She really was too amazing.
Delphine, seeing that Nicholas indeed seemed a bit weary, helped him take off his jacket and let him nap briefly alongside his sister. Only then did she follow Ignatius into the study.
