Chapter 607: This Way, You Will Never Forget Me for the Rest of Your Life

Delphine followed Cassius Turner to search for Chloe Winston nearby.

Both of them wrapped themselves tightly in down jackets, wearing thick gloves as they looked for signs of the little girl in the snow.

Cassius Turner supported her arm and asked softly, "Are you cold, Delphine?"

"I can bear it." Delphine adjusted her snow goggles, though she could still feel her eyelashes freezing. Having endured a life of wandering for years, her body had developed a remarkable resilience.

Cassius tightened her scarf a little more, half-supporting her as they walked. He regretted bringing her out in this weather. At the time, he had only wanted to spend some time alone with Delphine and hadn’t considered the harsh conditions.

Cassius used a flashlight to send signals, scanning the surroundings. A vast expanse of white stretched before them, making it impossible to spot anyone.

"This is pretty far. Chloe may be little, but she wouldn’t have walked this far. Should we head back and check another way?" Delphine’s voice carried an urgent edge as they continued searching without success. She had always treated Chloe like a younger sister, and the thought of something happening to her was unbearable. She knew she’d regret it for the rest of her life if they didn’t find her.

"Let’s head back. If we still can’t find her, we’ll call for rescue immediately and bring in a helicopter. That’ll be more effective than the two of us searching on foot," Cassius said, nodding in agreement.

Delphine nodded as well, though after walking so far in the snow, she felt cramps creeping into her legs.

Out of nowhere, she tripped over something and fell, tumbling uncontrollably. Cassius, alarmed, grabbed her hand, but he too ended up rolling down with her. The two of them landed in a deep Snow Cavern.

Delphine didn’t know how much time had passed before she awakened, her entire body stiff from the cold. She struggled to sit up, coughing painfully and looking around. Panicked, she reached out and shook Cassius, who was lying beneath her, calling his name anxiously, "Cassius Turner?"

As they fell, all she remembered was how tightly he had held her. This Snow Cavern was so deep—he was bound to be injured.

Fumbling for the backpack that had fallen to the side, Delphine pulled out a spare flashlight, water, and the first aid kit. Hearing the faint, painful cough of the man before her, her eyes immediately welled up with tears. She threw her arms around him, her voice choked, "Cassius, you scared me."

Cassius let out a low chuckle. "I’m sorry. I promise next time, I’ll respond the moment you call my name."

He lay motionless on the ground, his eyes soft as they rested on Delphine.

Seeing him so still, Delphine’s body tensed. She realized with growing dread that his injuries must be severe. Her eyes turned wet as she murmured, "Why were you so reckless, falling down with me?"

"I was worried you’d be scared on your own." Cassius tried to smile, though each chuckle sent waves of searing pain through him. The height of the fall, coupled with bearing both their weights, had left him gravely injured.

"Delphine, strangely enough, I’m happy," his voice rasped, low and hoarse. "This way, you’ll never forget me as long as you live."

She was so extraordinary. Surrounded by men, yet untouched by love, he had always felt he could only ever be her friend. But now, things were different. In this barren, frozen wasteland, they were depending on each other for survival. Whether or not rescue arrived, he had at least secured a special place in her heart.

Delphine felt as though there was a lump in her throat, her words catching as her vision blurred with tears. "Cassius Turner, you’re the second-foolishest man I’ve ever met."

"The first was the man you once loved, wasn’t it?" Cassius smiled faintly.

A small smile broke across Delphine’s face, though her tears dampened her scarf. The first-foolishest was Magnus Leclair. When he had left, it was so quiet, as if he had vanished without a trace. Aside from her, no one else would ever think of this man again.
