Chapter 586: Inviting the Wolf into the House

Chapter 586: Inviting the Wolf into the House

Two days later, Delphine’s studio signed several relatively outstanding artists from the open auditions to star in her new film, but the leading actress was still not finalized.

Delphine was a bit frazzled, so she decided to visit the school. She hadn’t attended classes much lately due to being busy with the movie, but thankfully there was Cassius Turner.

Cassius was teaching a class. Whenever Professor Turner held a lecture, even for the more obscure and challenging language courses, girls from other departments would come to audit, packing the classroom to the brim.

Delphine entered through the back door and settled in the corner, allowing herself to zone out as she listened to Cassius’s impeccable French accent.

She didn’t realize when class had ended; students gradually left until the room was empty. Wilbur Turner finished tidying his books and approached her, bending slightly as he smiled and said, "You’re the first person to space out during my lecture. I feel quite defeated because of it."

Delphine snapped back to reality, standing up like a guilty schoolchild and softly stammered, "I’m sorry, Professor Turner. I just thought your French was extraordinarily good, and then I started daydreaming."

Cassius chuckled, patting his forehead. He wanted to move closer but hesitated, fearing it would be too forward. Instead, he smiled politely and said, "Saturday is my parents’ 30th wedding anniversary. Can I invite you to the evening banquet? My sister is a huge fan of yours and said that if I couldn’t get you to come, she wouldn’t recognize me as her brother anymore."

"Their 30th wedding anniversary?" Delphine was a bit surprised and then smiled, "I didn’t realize Mr. and Mrs. Turner were so in love. I’ll definitely attend."

"Then it’s settled. I’ll come to pick you up that day." Cassius hadn’t expected things to go so smoothly, and he was momentarily overjoyed.

That evening, back home, Delphine discussed the matter with Kyla Zamora. Kyla expressed some disapproval, saying, "Since the Land Family is a distinguished household, the attendees at the anniversary banquet will undoubtedly include the elite of Imperial City. With the Howard Family and Ignatius Leclair’s status, they’re sure to be on the invite list. Are you really not planning to look back, Delphine?"

Though Wilbur Turner seemed excellent, Kyla couldn’t forget the events in Southeast Asia three years ago. It was truly fate’s cruel trick. Even though Delphine appeared indifferent toward Ignatius back then, his tender affection was woven seamlessly into everyday life. Everything had been so good—how did it end like that?

Delphine had considered this question before. She said flatly, "There’s no going back, Kyla."

No matter how glorious the Leclair Family was, no matter how remarkable Ignatius Leclair appeared, underneath their dazzling exterior lay venom. She was no longer the naive eighteen-year-old girl, needing glittering things to adorn herself.

Kyla sighed quietly and said, "No matter what, I’ll stand by you."

At the Turners’ wedding anniversary banquet, while Delphine didn’t dress extravagantly, she did thoughtfully choose a black backless gown. Her mid-length curly hair was styled smoothly and elegantly. When Cassius arrived to pick her up, he couldn’t help but stare. He had always known she was beautiful—stunning even without makeup—but when she did wear makeup, the effect was breathtaking.

Among all the beauties he’d seen growing up, perhaps only Crystal Landon, the famed eldest daughter of the Lewis Family, could surpass her. What a pity.

Delphine turned to bid farewell to Nicholas Carter before following Cassius. As she walked away, her snow-white, delicate back and slender waist came into view, drawing his gaze and causing him to flinch slightly. He suddenly felt a pang of regret. Ignatius Leclair would also attend tonight’s event. His original plan to assert dominance in front of Ignatius now seemed to backfire; he’d just invited a wolf into the house. Wilbur Turner had the distinct feeling that he’d shot himself in the foot.
