Chapter 496: The Lost Treasure Regained
Chapter 496: The Lost Treasure Regained
The man paused for a few seconds before he could clearly see the furnishings inside the room. It took him a moment to realize he was at home, not in the hot spring cave.
The elderly doctor, seeing that he was awake, asked with some concern, "Do you feel unwell?"
The man’s handsome yet austere face revealed a hint of dark pain, almost spasmodic. Pressing on his throbbing temple, he murmured with a pale complexion, "Dr. Wen, I’d like to be hypnotized one more time."
"No, I’ve already told you I’ll only hypnotize you once. Your current state is already very poor; it’s better for you to drink some water and rest." The doctor waved his hand decisively, rejecting the idea outright.
Ignatius Leclair’s condition was indeed terrible—it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to describe his emotions as a tempestuous sea. The man suddenly clenched his fist, sitting up straight from the couch. His face was dark; his tightly balled fists were faintly trembling. This fragment of memory did not exist in his recollections at all.
Such a scene, such an entangling and passionate kiss—how could he have no memory of it whatsoever? What was even more terrifying was that he could feel the state of his Heart Realm at the time—such greed, such insatiable desire.
"Dr. Wen, under what circumstances would a person unconsciously forget past events, without even realizing it themselves?" He lowered his head, his phoenix-like eyes dark as an abyss, and asked in a low tone.
"In principle, that’s highly unlikely. If it’s selective amnesia, one would at least be aware of the gaps in their memory. If the memory appears complete, there’s only one possibility—implanted memories. But as of now, that’s extremely difficult to achieve," the elderly doctor remarked with interest. "It requires not only extraordinarily skilled hypnosis from the Hypnotist but also full cooperation from the patient, and multiple sessions to accomplish. It’s highly improbable."
As he spoke, the elderly doctor shook his head, refuting his own words.
"I notice you have severe insomnia and headaches. Hypnosis will only worsen your condition, and I can’t guarantee there won’t be lasting side effects. I recommend staying away from it." The doctor spoke as he prepared to take his leave.
Ignatius escorted him out personally before heading straight to Delphine’s house.
After a night of emotional release, Delphine had already come to terms with the reality she faced. She had lain in bed all day, and by the time she got up in the evening, her eyes were swollen as badly as ever. Aunt Li had thoughtfully boiled a few eggs, wrapped them in a fine cloth, and gently rolled them over the area around her eyes to reduce the swelling. With a motherly tone, she gently chided, "Miss Delphine, you’re carrying two bodies now. You can’t cry like that anymore, even if you’re arguing with the young master."
Delphine said nothing. She hadn’t told anyone about registering her marriage with Ignatius the day before. As such, Aunt Li and Yunji still assumed the two of them had only had another argument.
"When I saw the young master leave at noon, his complexion didn’t look good—like he hadn’t slept at all last night. Sigh." Aunt Li let out a low sigh. But when she saw Ignatius enter, she quickly set the eggs down, gave Delphine a nudge, and left with a smile.
Delphine didn’t turn her head. The truth was, her eyes had been aching badly. Over the years, her health had been poor; her most immediate response to anything was an over-sensitivity of her skin. Even the slightest pressure hurt, let alone crying as hard as she had. When she woke, she could barely open her eyes, and it wasn’t until the afternoon that they felt better.
When Ignatius entered, he saw her sitting there with her head bowed. Clearly aggrieved, yet she remained silent, much like the times in their youth when Bessie had bullied her, leaving her both wronged and subdued.
The man’s heart constricted tightly. He walked over, wrapped her in his arms from behind, and held her close to him—so tightly, as though she were a precious treasure he feared losing again.
