Chapter 413: Picked Up a Beautiful and Cute Child on the Way

Leah finished paying her respects to her parents and wandered around the cemetery area before distractedly driving back to the hospital. This time, Delphine had found her biological father, and Leah couldn’t help but think about the seven years she and Griffith Squire had spent relying on each other. Over these years, Griffith Squire had not mentioned marrying or having children, and she herself hadn’t considered marrying anyone either. It seemed they were both destined to live lonely lives.

As she passed by a convenience store, Leah went in to buy some daily necessities. After placing them on the car’s backseat and opening the door to check, her face instantly paled in shock.

This car, a red Lotus sports car with a spacious backseat, had been randomly pulled from the family garage. Shrinking in the backseat was a delicate seven- or eight-year-old boy who appeared to be carved from jade. In his arms, he held a sketchpad. When Leah suddenly opened the car door, the boy, startled, widened his round almond-shaped eyes. The two of them, one big and one small, froze in a bizarre silence, gaping at each other.

Had she just accidentally abducted a child? Leah stood there in a daze for a moment. Just as she was about to say something, the little boy reacted. His dark eyes brimmed with tears as he trembled and called out in a soft, quivering voice, "Mommy."

As soon as he spoke, he scrambled toward her, wrapping his arms and legs around her and bursting into tears. Between sobs, he cried out in anguish, "Mommy, you don’t want Casimir anymore! Wuuu... Casimir has always been so good."

The boy’s crying tugged at Leah’s heartstrings, making it clench almost painfully. She fumbled to wipe away his tears and snot, panicking. Stammering, she asked, "C-Casimir? Can you tell Auntie why you’re in Auntie’s car? Hmm?"

Young Casimir Shaw, his eyes reddened from crying, lifted his small face and, with an air of seriousness, corrected her mistake in a childish voice, "It’s Mommy, not Auntie." After saying this, he scooted closer to Leah, sniffing the warm, familiar scent unique to her. It was exactly like how she smelled in his dreams. Remembering how Mommy had abandoned Daddy and had even abandoned him, his nose wrinkled again with sadness. Clenching Leah’s sweater tightly with his small fists, he began crying once more.

Seeing him cry like this, Leah inexplicably felt a pang of sorrow herself, as if she too wanted to cry. Squatting down, she wiped the tears from the little boy’s face and coaxed gently, "Mommy was wrong. Mommy shouldn’t have left Casimir, hmm?"

The little boy was easy to comfort. Soon, his tears gave way to a bright smile. Taking hold of her hand with his tiny one, his eyes sparkled as he said, "Then let’s make a pinky promise, Mommy will never leave Casimir again."

"Alright, pinky promise." Leah felt faint for a moment but still hooked her pinky finger with his to seal the promise. Only after calming him down was she able to glean a bit of information.

It turned out that the little boy had seen her at the Southern Cemetery. While she wasn’t paying attention, he had quietly climbed into her car and stayed there all along the way. As for other details, whenever asked, he would look at her with tearful, dark eyes full of grievance, refusing to say anything.

Looking at this unexpected little shadow of hers, Leah felt a bit exasperated. Today, while visiting her late parents, her mind had indeed been elsewhere. She had completely let her usual vigilance slip and had lingered a bit too long near the parking lot. She hadn’t expected this little boy to sneak into her car without making a sound, following her all the way here. If not for her stop at the convenience store, she might have unwittingly taken him all the way to the hospital.

Accidentally picking up such a beautiful, adorable, and heart-melting child left Leah feeling both joyful and worried. Seeing how attached he was to her and how he said nothing about his family, she decided to temporarily take him in for the time being.

"Did you draw this?" Leah asked, noticing the sketchpad clutched in his arms. It was filled with various illustrations, mostly of a stern-looking man and a cheerful, smiling little boy. Realizing he came from a single-parent family, Leah suddenly understood why he called her "Mommy" at first sight.

Her heart softened even further as she gazed at the child. In a gentle voice, she asked, "Is this you and your Daddy?"
