Chapter 339
Chapter 339
As they spoke, Delphine came downstairs.
The man lifted his eyes and saw her wearing a coffee-colored sweater. Her fair, oval-shaped face, with large, misty eyes and exquisite features, was pleasing to the eye, bringing a quick smile to his thin lips.
Maximilian turned around and saw that it was Miss Delphine coming down. His mind instantly cleared up. Their relationship was more or less semi-public, and the old man’s reaction was not as fierce as expected.
Early that morning, Ignatius Leclair had ordered someone to dismantle the small attic, leaving no room for sentimentality for Miss Delphine.
"Should we still proceed with the setup on Reginald’s side?" Maximilian asked, unable to resist.
If Ignatius planned to pull back, Reginald wouldn’t need to stay in Vancouver; he could return to the South Seas. Over the years, the think tank members had been separated more often than together. Everyone envied him and Old Six, but he was the one always sniffing and tearing up. Ignatius’s temper had become increasingly unpredictable, and life in the South Seas was far from peaceful.
Ignatius’s eyes suddenly darkened, and he cast a warning glance at him.
Maximilian immediately shut his mouth, hurriedly gathered the stack of documents on the table, and made a hasty escape.
Delphine searched around and saw Maximilian rushing off. Ignatius emerged from the tea room, wearing a coffee-colored sweater matching hers. With his tall and imposing figure and strikingly handsome face, she found herself stifling all the words she’d wanted to say.
She reached out to grab hold of her sweater, thinking of changing it.
"Looking for me about something?" Ignatius asked casually, his hands in his pockets. His voice was low and husky, making Delphine’s heart tremble.
"No, nothing." She instinctively shook her head, lowering her gaze to glance around. Little Jing was on winter break, and the old man was home, but somehow the annex was completely deserted.
"Let’s have breakfast first." At some point, the man had approached her, reaching out to tuck her messy strands of hair behind her ear. He murmured in a low voice, "You should keep your hair long going forward."
He liked how her previously sleek, black, long hair made her look even more innocent and obedient.
Delphine pouted. He spoke as though his preferences dictated her choices about her own hair.
"Why dismantle the small attic?" she asked blandly.
"It’s cold, and living in the attic isn’t suitable for the weather," Ignatius replied, glancing at the reserved, somewhat listless young woman. He reached out and led her to the fireplace to warm up before instructing the servants to arrange breakfast for Delphine.
Seeing how casually he shifted the topic, even dictating what she’d have for breakfast based on his own standards, Delphine was instantly irritated, her fair cheeks cooling slightly as she said, "I don’t drink milk, and I absolutely hate it when people try to control my life."
Ignatius waved to the servants to proceed. The man, unbothered, narrowed his phoenix eyes and calmly said, "When your health improves, you can live however you’d like."
Delphine’s face blushed furiously. She bit her lower lip and glared at him, a cultured scoundrel! Shameless!
The man rarely saw her so animated. His gaze deepened, his phoenix eyes growing darker, restraining himself from kissing her lips that were biting down in indignation.
"Grandpa? Where’s Grandpa?" Bessie Leclair dragged a suitcase in, her voice shrill and tearful, interrupting the charged moment between the two.
A week ago, Jocelyn Yeager had finally agreed to go on vacation with her to Great Creek Land. She had flown ahead to make preparations, only for Reginald Yeager to never turn up. It was only after she’d received Melody Cloud’s call that she’d found out something had gone wrong.
With no direct flights from the South Seas, by the time she finally made her way back, everything was already too late.
