Chapter 1096: If It Hurts, Let Go

Hawk’s expression subtly changed, and he said steadily, "Don’t be afraid, where are you? I’ll come to get you."

"Military District Hospital, I’m heading towards your place." She steadied her emotions, buttoned her coat tightly, and carefully protected her belly as she slipped out of the hospital under the cover of night.

Hawk was still working overtime at the research institute. Hearing this, he frowned at the night outside and said, "It’s too late, walking isn’t safe. The Military District Hospital is very close to me; you should take a taxi here, and I’ll come down to meet you. Keep the phone on, don’t hang up."

Crystal nodded, hailed a cab, gave the address of the research institute, and kept talking to Hawk on the phone.

The ride from the Military District Hospital to the research institute was just a ten-minute drive. Hawk waited at the entrance of the institute. Seeing her get off the car, he finally relaxed, walked up, and wiped away the traces of tears from her face, gently patting her back.

The young and handsome man said steadily, "Shall we go to my place?"

Crystal nodded. As long as she didn’t have to see those two dogs together, it was fine. She got into Hawk’s car, hugged her knees, and remained silent.

"Caspian, I’m pregnant with Richard Shaw’s child." She closed her eyes, her face pale, her voice somewhat cold.

Hawk’s grip on the steering wheel tightened slightly, his tall body tensed up, but he said nothing.

"He has someone he likes," she continued, her voice calm. "Do you think if I have this child, it will repay the Shaw family’s grandmother for her kindness to me over the years?"

Hawk’s veins stood out on the back of his hand, a hint of anger appeared on his handsome face, and he nodded as he said in a deep voice, "The Shaw family has a single heir per generation. Having this child would repay any and all debts, however large."

Hearing this, Crystal let out a sigh of relief and laughed softly, "That’s good. You know, when I was young, my judgment was really bad. That person was just a piece of wood, a hard stone. I always thought people’s hearts were made of flesh and that, with time, he would come to see your worth. Later I realized that he had recognized the worth of another woman, and for many years afterward, he had nothing to do with you."

She really was quite exhausted.

Hawk reached out and gently touched her head, saying softly, "If it hurts, let go."

After a long while, she responded with a low "mm."

Hawk drove to his place, woke Crystal up, and led her inside, saying softly, "You sleep in the master bedroom; I’ll make the bed for you anew."

Hawk lived in a duplex apartment with nearly 200 square meters. The two floors were connected. He lived downstairs, leaving the upper floor vacant, and it was relatively quiet.

Crystal was at a sleepy stage. Seeing how quiet it was here, she sighed deeply and fell asleep as soon as she lay down, completely unaware that chaos had erupted at the Military District Hospital.

Richard Shaw escorted Luna back to her ward, smoked a cigarette, and only then managed to suppress his initial anxiety about becoming a father.

He was always someone who didn’t show his emotions. No matter how much he cared, he wouldn’t let it show. Once he finished smoking, he instinctively returned to check on Crystal.

He didn’t know when it became a habit, but as long as Crystal was nearby, he always had to look at her, hold her, and then felt at peace.

The man pushed open the door back into the ward, realizing the bed was empty, his face instantly turned pale and gloomy.

Richard turned on the light, discovered that her clothes, phone, and bag were all gone. His hands clenched into fists as he tried hard to suppress the panic rising within him. In the middle of the night, she was pregnant. Where could she have gone alone?
