And So We Go to War:
And So We Go to War:
[POV: Aria]
“You have to stay here, Aria,” Hayden commanded firmly.
His grip on my shoulders were tight and steadying as warriors rushed around us, preparing for battle. His voice was tense, filled with worry.
“You’ll be safe inside the pack house. Let me handle this.”
“No,” I replied fiercely, shaking my head and pulling away from his grasp. “I won’t stay hidden behind these walls while you fight for our lives. I’m not helpless anymore—I can fight. I need to fight!”
He looked torn, eyes flashing between anger and concern. I stepped forward, placing my hands on his chest to steady him, forcing him to meet my gaze.
“Hayden,” I whispered urgently, “I’m your Luna now. The pack needs both of us. I can’t stay behind.”
He hesitated, jaw clenched.
The moonlight poured down around us, illuminating the determination in my eyes. I could feel the energy of the moon surging through me, empowering me, sharpening my senses.
My abilities were strongest beneath the clear night sky, and tonight the moon was radiant, fueling my strength.
Hayden exhaled deeply, finally nodding with visible reluctance.
“Fine. But you stay close to me—every second. Promise me.”
“I promise,” I said firmly, standing tall. His eyes lingered a moment longer, then he pressed a fierce kiss to my forehead before stepping back.
The battle erupted violently moments later, our warriors and enemies colliding in a fierce clash of snarls and blood. I stood beside Hayden, my heart pounding wildly, adrenaline pumping through my veins. I focused sharply, reaching into the shadows cast by the bright moonlight and the shifting warriors.
Enemies surged toward us, teeth bared. Without hesitation, I called the darkness forward, bending the shadows to confuse and blind them. Wolves stumbled, disoriented, allowing our warriors to strike easily. My powers flowed effortlessly, fueled by the moonlight, and for the first time, I truly felt like the Luna my pack deserved.
Hayden fought beside me, his massive black wolf tearing through enemies with ruthless precision. I watched his back, using my shadows to shield him from surprise attacks. He did the same for me, our bond perfectly synchronized, minds connected, movements aligned.
As the enemy wolves fell around us, the tide of battle turned decisively. Our warriors surged forward, driving back the invaders. Some fled, disappearing into the forest. Most lay dead at our feet. Hayden quickly shifted back, commanding warriors to secure the remaining enemies. Soon, a captured wolf was brought before us, snarling but fearful.
“Who sent you?” Hayden demanded, his voice cold, eyes blazing dangerously.
The prisoner cowered slightly, sensing his doom. “It was Cole and Dayana, the new leaders of Midnight Crest. They... they had help from someone inside your pack.”
“Who?” Hayden growled sharply.
The prisoner’s eyes flicked nervously toward me, then back at Hayden. “Talia. She’s been giving information to Dayana. She told them everything—your defenses, your patrols.”
Shock and anger surged through me. Talia’s hatred for me had always been clear, but I’d never imagined she’d betray the entire pack.
“What else?” Hayden pressed, eyes narrowed. “What exactly are Dayana and Cole planning?”
The prisoner hesitated, looking frightened. He opened his mouth to speak, but suddenly gasped, eyes bulging in terror. His face twisted unnaturally, mouth wide open. Something dark and vile began to pour from his eyes and lips, choking him violently.
“What’s happening?” I cried, stepping back instinctively.
Before anyone could help, the prisoner’s body went rigid and collapsed to the ground, lifeless. The darkness that emerged from his body seeped into the earth, vanishing completely.
Hayden’s expression was grim. “Dark magic,” he muttered bitterly. “Dayana.”
Fury burned in his eyes as he turned sharply, ordering Talia to be brought immediately. She was dragged forward, struggling and shouting defiantly.
“You have no proof!” Talia snarled, glaring at us with undisguised contempt.
Hayden approached her slowly, his eyes flashing dangerously as he placed his hand upon her forehead, channeling his Alpha power. Talia’s eyes widened in panic as his mental command forced the truth from her lips.
“I did it,” she gasped painfully, unable to resist. “Dayana promised me power—she promised me the position of Beta when they take over all the packs. Dayana, Cole, and Damian plan to conquer Crimson Fang first, then all the western territories. They’ll rule everything.”
Her confession echoed through the silent clearing. Warriors around us murmured angrily, eyes filled with betrayal and rage.
Hayden’s jaw clenched. His voice was dangerously calm. “For your betrayal, I sentence you to death.”
Talia’s scream died swiftly as justice was carried out. Silence descended over us once more, broken only by heavy breathing and the shifting of anxious paws.
I moved closer to Hayden, my hand slipping into his, needing his strength. “What do we do now?”
He looked down at me, determination hardening his features. “Dayana, Cole, and Damian have made their choice. Now they’ll face the consequences.”
I nodded resolutely. The thought of war frightened me deeply, but standing beside Hayden, I knew it was unavoidable. We had to protect our pack, our family—everything we held dear.
Hayden stepped forward, raising his voice clearly. “From this moment, Crimson Fang is officially at war. Prepare yourselves, warriors. We will fight, and we will win.”
The warriors howled in fierce agreement, rallying behind Hayden’s commanding presence. I stood beside him, pride swelling in my chest. We would face this threat together, united and unbreakable.
Later, when the warriors dispersed to ready themselves, Hayden pulled me gently into his arms, holding me tightly. “I’m sorry, Aria. I never wanted this for you.”
I looked up into his worried eyes, lifting a hand to caress his jaw softly. “I chose this, Hayden. I chose you. And I will stand beside you no matter what we face.”
His gaze softened, eyes filled with fierce devotion. He pressed a gentle kiss to my forehead, his voice filled with quiet resolve. “I swear, I’ll protect you with everything I have.”
I held him tightly, breathing him in deeply, taking comfort in his warmth and strength. “And I’ll protect you,” I whispered fiercely. “We’ll protect each other.”
Standing together beneath the shining moon, our bond felt stronger than ever, unbreakable even in the face of war. Together, we would protect our pack, our home, and each other—no matter the cost.
