Chapter 353 - 229: Legend and Dragon (Part 2)
"He's still alive!" someone exclaimed.
Only a few Legendary Ones, like Kasim, the Martial Technique Master, and Bergin, the Rune Lord, had managed to discern the truth of that instant. As the strange Dragon Breath boomed towards him, the warrior, already in mid-air, actually used the stones simultaneously thrown aloft to propel himself aside. Like an acrobat, he executed a diving flip and landed squarely on David's greatsword—one that had struck the ground when the dragon landed.
With his long spear in hand, he howled like a wild beast and continued to charge toward the dragon's head. As David swung another greatsword, striking the shaft of Baptiste's spear and scraping along it like a blade against a whetstone, sending out a dazzling shower of sparks, the warrior leaped into the air once more. With a high jump, his feet kicking as if treading on air, he thrust his Dragon Spear towards David's right eye.
Brutal Attack!
But just as he was about to land his intended strike, a terrifying rush of air forced him to change his attack, shifting to a defensive stance with both hands on the spear.
Wild Defense!
They saw a serpentine dragon tail whip down. Its tip, cracking like a nine-section whip, broke the sound barrier as it smashed onto the long spear, producing a jarring clang of metal on metal.
The long spear in Baptiste's hand bent like a bow and then, like a great bowstring, flung him backward with even more speed than his initial charge.
With a muffled THUD and a CRACK, Baptiste bounced off the circular high wall. He took several staggering steps backward, seemingly defying the laws of physics, then dropped into a deep crouch.
"Ah!!!" Blood sprayed from his legs as he began to sprint along the high wall, each step leaving a bloody footprint.
"His ankles are shattered..." Kasim, the Martial Technique Master, couldn't help but point out, horrified by the Red Dragon's terrifying prowess.
It was never a given that a human Legendary One would inevitably defeat a non-Legendary giant dragon; numerous factors could tip the scales of battle. However, Kasim had never imagined that Baptiste, the legendary Dragon Slayer, would find himself at such an overwhelming disadvantage from the very start!
At this moment, his struggle took on an air of tragic valor.
With a frenetic gleam in his eyes, Baptiste dodged the stone greatswords continuously thrusting out from the city wall. When David swung his six-meter Abyssal Iron Greatsword again, Baptiste leveraged his spear against it. This sudden acceleration allowed him to dodge the subsequent tail sweep and fly past the curtain-like closing wings and claws. He finally closed in again, aiming a sudden thrust at David's right chest, unprotected by the Metal Wheel!
Reflective Strong Strike!
Brutal Attack!
"Incredible," David suddenly spoke, as if genuinely impressed by the Dragon Slayer's unexpectedly resilient performance.
Baptiste suddenly had a bad feeling. Sure enough, just as the tip of his spear was about to reach David's chest, an overwhelming repulsive force struck him out of nowhere.
He couldn't help but feel both frustrated and resigned.
Right, this Red Dragon before me is still a damn Spellcaster...
Shackle Release Spell.
Deflated, Baptiste was knocked away. As his mind raced for a chance to seize victory, he saw David raise both terrifying greatswords with crossed claws, wings spread, pupils narrowed.
THUMP.
His heart seemed to stop beating abruptly.
In the next moment, as a hurricane burst forth, the Red Dragon's form stretched into a searing red shadow and appeared before him, both greatswords coming down mercilessly.
Charge!
Brutal Attack!
Baptiste's eyes widened as he instinctively raised his Dragon Spear over his head. Under David's almost tyrannical draconic strength, he was smashed into the air. He tumbled rapidly, skipping across the ground several times like a stone on water, before embedding himself at the foot of the high wall.
Blood smeared his face as he stepped forward, still maintaining his defensive stance. To everyone's shock, two nearly severing gashes had been slashed into the Dragon Slayer's shoulders. Devoid of tendon support, his arms drooped limply.
SPURT! Torrents of blood gushed out like a fountain.
A normal person would have been dead by now.
But this Dragon Slayer, as if nothing had happened, used the momentum of his turn to clench the dangling Dragon Spear in his mouth and charged again at the Red Dragon in its seemingly invincible stance.
It was just as he had done years ago, when he attacked Brittany, the Scarlet Flame, with no hope of victory in his heart.
The only difference was, the Scarlet Flame was with him now!
"Brittany," he shouted, "the human who once cut off one of your dragon horns needs your help! You wouldn't want the one who made you flee in such a wretched state to be killed by a Red Dragon that hasn't even reached Legendary status, would you?"
No response.
"I'll tell you where I plan to be buried! All the wealth I've earned and plundered in my lifetime is there!"
As he swiftly named a location, the glyphed Dragon Scale necklace around his neck ignited spontaneously, fanned by no wind.
A vigorous vitality then flared up within Baptiste.
"Oh, it seems you've impressed more than one dragon," David said with a laugh, as another terrifying burst of fiery breath focused in his mouth.
The legendary warrior, crimson spear clutched in his teeth, dragged his rapidly regenerating arms and lunged toward David, head raised.
The corners of David's mouth spread into an even brighter and crueler smile.
"I shall honor your bravery!
"Let us both burn with passionate fervor!"
