The Outcast Luna

Chapter 10

Chapter 10

The cavern shook violently as the dark force from the Talisman erupted into the air, its energy spiraling into chaos. Shadows swirled and writhed, taking on monstrous shapes as Ravoryn raised his arms, his crimson eyes glowing with triumph. The ground split beneath his feet, and a jagged portal began to tear open, its swirling void leading to a realm of endless night.

Lunara staggered back, clutching the Talisman in her hands. Its silver glow was no longer steady—it pulsed erratically, flashes of light cutting through the darkness like a heartbeat gone wild.

“You see, my queen?” Ravoryn said, his voice echoing unnaturally. “The Talisman was never meant to save. It was meant to conquer.” He gestured to the portal, from which an army of shadowy creatures began to emerge—grotesque beings with glowing red eyes and razor-sharp claws.

“Lunara!” Thalric shouted, sprinting toward her. His gray eyes were filled with desperation. “We have to get out of here before it’s too late!”

“I can’t!” she cried, the Talisman vibrating in her hands. “If I let go, it’ll destroy everything!”

Caidren ran to her other side, his piercing blue eyes locked on Ravoryn. “We’ll stop him together,” he said, his voice steady despite the chaos around them.

But Lunara shook her head. “It’s too powerful,” she said, her voice breaking. “I can feel it taking over.”

“Let it,” Ravoryn purred, his lips curling into a dark smile. “Why fight it, Lunara? You were made for this. You and I, together—we could rule not just this realm, but all realms.”

“Never,” she spat, her silver eyes blazing.

Ravoryn’s expression darkened, his amusement fading. “You can’t stop what’s already begun,” he said, his tone icy. He raised a hand, and a spear of shadow hurtled toward her.

“Lunara!” Thalric roared, throwing himself in front of her. The spear struck him in the chest, and he collapsed to the ground, blood pooling beneath him.

“Thalric!” Lunara screamed, dropping to her knees beside him. She pressed her hands to his wound, but the darkness had already spread, veins of shadow crawling across his skin.

He coughed, his breaths shallow. “I… I couldn’t let him hurt you,” he rasped, his gray eyes locking onto hers.

“You didn’t have to—why would you do this?” she cried, tears streaming down her face.

“Because… I love you,” he whispered, his voice barely audible. “I always have. Even when I was too afraid to say it.”

Her heart shattered as she cradled him, his body growing colder with each passing moment. “Stay with me,” she begged, her voice trembling. “Don’t leave me.”

“I’m sorry… for everything,” he murmured, a weak smile on his lips. “Be strong… Lunara.”

With a final, shuddering breath, Thalric’s eyes closed, and his body went still.

“NO!” Lunara screamed, her grief unleashing a surge of energy that shook the cavern. The silver light of the Talisman flared, forcing Ravoryn to step back.

“You’re wasting your power on the wrong fight,” Ravoryn said, his tone laced with disdain. “Grief makes you weak, my queen.”

Lunara rose slowly, her hands glowing as the Talisman’s light fused with her own. Her silver eyes were now tinged with darkness, the edges of her irises shimmering with black fire.

“You took everything from me,” she said, her voice deadly calm. “My parents. My home. And now Thalric.”

Ravoryn raised an eyebrow, intrigued. “And what will you do with that anger, my queen? Fight me? Or join me?”

She tightened her grip on the Talisman, her entire body trembling with power. “I’ll end this.”

Caidren stepped forward, his expression torn between fear and resolve. “Lunara, wait. If you destroy the Talisman, it’ll kill you. Don’t do this. We’ll find another way.”

“There is no other way,” she said, her voice heavy with finality.

“No!” Caidren said, grabbing her arm. His eyes pleaded with hers. “Don’t leave me, too.”

Her heart twisted, but she pulled free. “I have to,” she said softly. “This is my burden to bear.”

Before either of them could stop her, Lunara raised the Talisman high. The light within it grew blinding, the cavern trembling as the portal to the Shadow Realm began to collapse.

Ravoryn roared, his fury echoing through the chamber. “You dare defy me?” he bellowed, his form shifting into something monstrous, his shadowy tendrils lashing out in fury.

The dark force surged toward Lunara, but she stood her ground, her silver light clashing with his shadows. “This ends now,” she said through gritted teeth, pouring every ounce of her strength into the Talisman.

But Ravoryn wasn’t finished. With a burst of power, he ripped the Talisman from her hands, its glow dimming as his laughter filled the air.

The portal behind him expanded, swallowing the shadows as he stepped into it. His crimson eyes locked onto Lunara one final time.

“I’ll be back for you, my Moonborn queen,” he said, his voice a dark promise. “You belong to me.”
