Chapter 965: Showing Our Growth

Alright, we’re done here.

...Is what I expected after I defeated the enemies. But it seems like they have reinforcement coming already.

"Anyone noticed where they came from?" I asked those around me.

"From the west! We have sent some people to investigate the area. But it will take a while since they need to avoid being seen by those coming here," one of the agents said.

"I see. Veronica, how are you doing?" I asked Veronica.

"I’m still fine. I didn’t waste too much mana on the previous battle," she said.

"Good. Then Ray... you seem like you can go on. That’s great," I said after I asked Ray for confirmation.

"Hey, what about me?" Victoria asked.

"You are only strong when Ray allowed you to. If Ray is fine, then you’re fine. Though I don’t think I have seen you not being fine at all," I said.

"I guess that’s true. That’s the perk of being the Black Slime. How many people coming and how many of them master level mages?" Victoria asked me.

Then I checked again using my Divine Vision to where the reinforcement were coming. And I could see hundreds of them. At least half of them seem to be master level mages.

"Quite a lot of them. I guess I should bring some monsters with me," I said.

The cult must still be thinking that I’m also a tamer. So it should be fine for me to bring monster reinforcement as well.

The previous battle was over without any death casualties. But there were still some who got injured. So its best to bring some monsters here.

So which monsters should I bring here? Too many options. And I can’t just bring everyone here.

"How about the centaurs and the elves? It seems like they’re the one who progressed very late. They need experience more than other monsters. As for the Crab People, we’re quite far from water source. So even if they lack experience, the thing they can do will be limited here," Victoria suggested.

"Right. And since the previous battle is over, we don’t have to fight in the city anymore. We can fight in the forest. And those two races are expert when it comes to battle in the forest. Then, I’ll take a leave for a while. Veronica, take care of everything here while I bring the reinforcement," I said.

"Understood."

"What about me?" Victoria asked.

"You’re supposed to be my familiar. Just fight the enemy instead of taking the command. Or they will be suspicious that my familiars are much more intelligent than they expected," I said.

I feel like the cult has known a lot about me. But I still managed to keep my real identity a secret from them.

Though I think it should be fine. After all, the cult already knew that monsters can be smart. Even the monsters that Shelia and the others faced back then were quite smart. And then there’s this unknown monster who is the familiar of the Archbishop as well.

This one should be able to speak and tell the Evil God about what the Archbishop experienced until I restricted his use of magic. That monster must be quite smart.

I opened a portal to the Monsters World and tell the monsters there about what happened.

"And so, I want to ask the help of the centaurs and the elves for this battle," I said.

And I can hear the sound of disappointment coming from other monsters. Even the dragons who have just recently joined and willing to participate in the fight.

"Please be patient. There will surely be a huge battle sooner or later in the future where I will need your help. But for the battle in this location, I will only ask the centaurs and the elves. I will ask other races’ help in other location. But for now, these are enough. The enemy is not much, so just elves and the centaurs are enough," I said.

They finally gave up and I only bring back the centaurs and the elves.

"This should be enough," I said.

"I think that’s overkill already," Victoria said. She’s still here instead of fighting the enemy reinforcement. I guess that’s normal since I didn’t leave for too long.

With how much the monsters have improved, just a few of them can already kill dozens of master level mages. But I brought the entire centaurs and elves. So it’s natural that she thought that it’s overkill.

"Actually, we got the report that there are more reinforcement coming from the same location. So... maybe you can get more monsters?" one of the agents reported.

More enemies? Well if it’s a problem, then I will call the others. If not, then there’s nothing to worry about.

"You guys protect the city. Me, Veronica, and the monsters will take care of them," I said confidently.

"Any plan, Master’s Master?" Tia asked.

"The centaurs and the elves take care of those who can’t fly or flying low. Veronica, Victoria, and I will take care those flying high. Simple," I said.

And so the battle continued.

We run from the city so there won’t be any fight there anymore. And we met the enemy around the forest area where the terrain is good for the centaurs and the agile elves.

Using the tactic from the game of tag, while also using real lethal weapons, the monsters attacked the enemies while avoiding their magic.

It is much harder since the enemy used powerful magic, but it’s still doable.

And I, Veronica, and Victoria who was riding on Ray, took care of the flying enemies. We made sure that they won’t fly any higher so the elves can still get rid of them using their archery. They are really good at it.

And since I used Divine Vision, I have easier time avoiding the enemy’s attack compared to the monsters who tried to tag me out in the game. Then I kill the enemy with the sword on my left, or the knife attached on my right wrist.

Just like that, hundreds of enemies have fallen. When our real force haven’t even finished with their cultivating in the Spirit Mountain.

We have grown stronger. But there’s one thing that bother me.

"We could defeat hundreds of them with just the help of the centaurs and the elves. Albeit only around half of them were master level mages, we defeated them rather easily. It shows that we have grown stronger. But the fact that the cult could just send these many people to their death means that they have a lot more force to face us in the future. What do you think, Victoria?" I asked Victoria.

"Maybe they still have another huge base in Monsters World. If it’s there, it will be far from our surveillance. If it’s a huge base in Monsters World, then it won’t be surprising if it could hold millions of people. If they’re all master level mages, then we’re doomed," she said.

"I’m more worried about how there could be millions of people willing to destroy the world. Just what could have happened to them?"

Millions of people agreed to help the Evil God to destroy the world. If they’re strong enough, they should have enough strength already to destroy the Earth. But they haven’t done anything until a few years ago.

Just what is their real aim? Is it only because they haven’t grown strong enough yet at the moment?

I think that’s the most likely case. Which means that we have to hurry to destroy the cult before they became even stronger.

"At least for now, we have enough force to protect ourselves. It’s not like they will send millions of people to destroy one city. Alright, that’s enough. Centaurs and elves, good job winning the fight. I’ll bring you back now," I said to the centaurs and the elves.

There’s no sign of exhaustion at all from them. It’s as if we didn’t put much effort in killing hundreds of mages.

Which shows how much progresses we made just by playing a game of tag. Even now, I still couldn’t believe how much improvement were made with just playing tag. I guess it’s also because everyone is smart enough to adapt to the situation.

"Veronica, I want you to stay in Arturo from now. It doesn’t have to be permanently. You can ask Lina to to transport you here once a week or so and stay in the capital doing whatever you want," I said to Veronica.

"I won’t return for now. There are books that I want to read written by authors from Arturo. It’s easier to find those books here. I will return once I finish them or Fabio or Carmen has returned," she said.

"That’s even better. Harold should have prepared a place for you to live. Ask him when you reach the capital," I said.

Then I asked the other agents if there’s any other move from the cult. But it seems like today’s battle is over. So we have to wait again. And see if the agents investigating where the reinforcement came from returned.

And so, we wait. Again.
