Chapter 894: And He Returned to the Past
Chapter 894: And He Returned to the Past
"This is crazy. To think that you helped Javier bring Roy back to the past. Or rather, isn’t it too crazy to deliver a functioning brain to the past and swap them? What if something went wrong?" Victoria asked the Spirit King next to her.
"I have confidence with my power. So I can do that if that Black Slime can use similar magic. If the two of us used our power, then it will happen. If it’s just me, something could go wrong. Though I think I sounded pretty desperate too over there. But how did the Black Slime know to find me? I have never met a Black Slime before you came. And we saw Roy’s past that he never met me before. It’s weird," the Spirit King said.
"Maybe it’s because the Black Slime used to be someone else’s familiar. And that person met you long before you stay in this mountain. So that summoner told the Black Slime about you. It could even be way before Victoria was born in this world. Anyway you said that you’re unable to harm humans directly. Is there a reason for that?" Shirley asked.
"Hmm..."
The Spirit King was wondering whether he should tell them or not.
"Just tell us. You have decided to help us anyway. It’s best if we know what happened. Because if you’re that powerful, it would be a shame if you can’t help us in the fight directly," Shirley continued.
"...Fine. When humans were still kind and I was not being exploited, we were friends. But I accidentally hurt someone back then when I was playing. So I made a Soul Promise to never harm any human ever again. Though that ended up becoming a stupid decision since humans started exploiting me," the Spirit King said.
"Soul Promise? What’s that?" Victoria asked.
"It’s something that any spirit can do. Even your two sleeping friends over there. It’s a promise we made with our soul. And it’s impossible to break it. So if I want to harm you like this—"
The Spirit King then created a huge Fireball in front of him and the Fireball flew toward Shirley. It was too close and too fast for her to react. So it’s impossible for Shirley to defend against it.
But in the end, Shirley didn’t have to do anything. Because the Fireball disappeared right before it hit her. And there’s not even any damage from that attack.
"See? Any offensive magic I used will be gone before it hit humans. That’s Soul Promise. Those I told usually misunderstood it. They thought that my soul will be taken if I broke the promise. But it’s simply a promise that will forcefully be granted in any way. Just like you witnessed. Though it won’t work with most promise. Like if I promised myself that I will become the strongest, the Soul Promise won’t work because it won’t make me the strongest. Instead, I will be hit by the recoil since I tried to use Soul Promise on a promise like that," the Spirit King explained.
"I see. But you can use illusion and still let us die in our sleep if you want, huh?" Shirley asked.
"Yes. That’s why I mostly use Illusion magic now," the Spirit King said.
Since he can’t harm humans, he can only us illusion magic. But that also means that other creatures beside humans can be harmed by him.
"So, if it’s me or Sonia over there, or even other spirits, you can harm them if you want?" Victoria asked.
"...Ah, I forgot. Yes, if it’s monsters, I can. But when I promised to not harm humans, I stopped using offensive magic completely. I think it’s best if I just never use any offensive magic completely whether they are humans or not," the Spirit King said.
Victoria agreed. Because she’s a monster. And she doesn’t know what other magic he can use that probably could even kill a Black Slime.
Just getting the Spirit King’s help alone means a lot. And that’s enough for now.
The illusion continued with nothing to show except the voices of the Spirit King and Javier talking.
"Is the brain normal?" the Spirit King in the illusion asked.
"I don’t know. He died for a moment before I infected the brain. So it might not be normal anymore. But you’re using telepathy, right? So maybe our conversation can be heard by him and he will remember it when he returned to the past," Javier said.
"Or maybe the brain is damaged since it has left the body for so long. How many years has it been? Don’t you think that there must be some kind of damage in the brain? Maybe he will become forgetful and forgot about the future instead," the Spirit King asked.
"I hope that’s not the case. It’s already hard enough for him to compete with average people with his learning ability. It will be bad if he got stupider," Javier said.
Meanwhile, the two who were watching the illusion of Roy’s past realized something. Something that they questioned for a long time. And they realized it today.
"So that’s why Roy got so forgetful! It was because his brain is damaged! Well, he might not notice it even though he should be able to use his own Divine Vision to see his brain. But the damage is still there. And he became even more forgetful," Victoria said.
"That’s just our guess though. We already know that he’s not that smart. So me might already be forgetful even in the past. It’s just that he put his effort in remembering people in the past, while in this life, he put his effort in becoming stronger, gaining allies, and destroying the cult. That’s why he cared less about people in this life. Though it’s easier to explain if his brain got damaged because of Javier," Shirley said.
Soon after, in the illusion, Javier and the Spirit King used their magic. And the view changed into the time that Roy returned to in the past. To back on his elements awakening ceremony.
"So, since you helped Javier returned back to the past, you should be able to do it now, right?" Victoria asked.
Hearing that, Shirley who was focusing on Roy’s experience in returning back to the past looked at the Spirit King.
If he can return someone to the past, then if something happened, they can ask the Spirit King to return that person back to the past.
"I can’t do it since I’m not allowed to harm humans. I think the only reason the me in the future capable of doing that was because of that Javier. If I tried to do it now, it won’t work," the Spirit King said as he tried to use it on Shirley.
"What if it’s not human?" Shirley asked.
"I don’t know, but it never works on monsters or even animals. It’s a magic that works only on human. I guess I made a mistake by making a Soul Promise to not harm humans," the Spirit King said.
"That’s fine. If we fought the cult knowing that we can just send someone back in the past, there won’t be any sense of urgency at all and everyone will be too relaxed to fight thinking that there will be a second, third, fourth chance, and so forth. It’s best to not tell this to anyone. Let’s just say that Javier used the magic to return Roy to the past by using the Spirit King’s mana. While the Spirit King is unable to use that magic," Shirley said.
They made that agreement as they watched Roy’s second life started. At how he was shocked to gain air element as well.
Then it’s when he used his summoning magic for the first time, and instead of getting a Black Slime that can’t talk, he got Victoria.
The illusion shows how he trained more after he made the Black Slime as his familiar. Including how that familiar taught him about how to use air magic to fight as well.
"It’s amazing that you can think of that," Shirley said.
"Well, air gun was some kind of toys in my past life. Many kids, especially boys, played with it. Which made it dangerous since they sometime use it to shoot animals or other people. I heard a lot of news about that and even watched it in my neighborhood. So I know that air pressure can be used like that," Victoria said.
"...That’s scary how easy it is to find a tool for killing in your world. And you even called it a toy. Are you sure the people in your world is okay?" Shirley asked.
"That’s why mental health is so important. Though for kids, they would never realize if it’s something bad or not until they experience it," Victoria said.
The illusion continued. With Roy registering as a hunter together with Angela, taking request together, and helped Kayla.
But the worst part for those who were watching came when Roy gained his Aura ability. Soon after his battle with an All-seeing Eye.
"Aaaah! Too much! It’s too much information entering his head! How could he sees everything as if it’s normal!" the Spirit King shouted.
What they see is how Roy usually see every day. Using his Divine Vision to check the surrounding.
"Good thing I experienced it when he shared his vision with mine. So I’m a bit used to it," Victoria said.
"Enough! Let’s do this again later! I can’t take it anymore!" the Spirit King shouted as he stopped using his magic.
And soon after that, Roy who was sleeping reacted. He woke up after the magic was stopped.
