Chapter 880: Spirit King’s Task

It’s so freaking cold! I already gave up on wearing more jackets after the fifth time, so I already started using Aura to protect my body. But it’s still cold!

It was so cold that I had to return back to Cassau, and request for something that I never expected that I would ask again.

"...Please lend me the fishnet stocking," I said to Kayla.

The stocking has been staying with Kayla since Sophie stopped fighting. And I asked Kayla if I could borrow it since it’s too cold.

"Is it too cold over there?" Kayla asked as she gave me the stocking she grabbed from her room.

"The coldest place I have ever been to," I said.

"Then it could be a good place for Angela, Shirley, Kron, and other ice mages to train at. And since it has spirits, it could be much better," Kayla said.

"Well, that would be for later. I haven’t seen any place where you can take a rest at. Once I do, I will mark that place. Though before that, I need to ask for permission from the spirits staying there first. And if they want to go out to travel much like Breezy, that would be great," I said.

But so far, it’s just vertical wall that I see. Maybe I should have climbed to the top from the other side. Though what if the other side is also the same?

Then it’s not a mountain. It’s totally unnatural for it to be that way. And instead of a mountain, it should be called a tower. But that’s just my guess.

"...What are you looking at?"

I asked the slime, the horse, and the two spirits who I brought back as well. They were watching me intensely.

"You’re not going to wear them?" Victoria asked.

"Somewhere your eyes can’t see!"

So I returned back to my room where no one can see, and quickly put on the fishnet stocking.

This stocking is not just for protection from fire. But it’s also to adjust the temperature of the owner. That’s why I return to ask for this stocking from Kayla.

With this on, I won’t have anymore problem with the cold. And I don’t need to wear multiple layers of jacket or using Aura anymore.

As for Victoria, I don’t know how well she can handle the cold. But if she’s sticking with me who will have the normal human temperature, she should be fine.

Airy and Breezy, I don’t know about them. But they are spirits. Maybe they have some ssort of resistance to magic from spirits. But I know that they haven’t complained at all about the cold. So I’m sure they will be fine.

...I don’t know about Ray. He’s the most mysterious creature I have ever seen. But he also hasn’t complained, so it should be fine for him.

After wearing the stocking, I covered it with my pants and left the room. Then after eating lunch with everyone, we returned back to the mountain.

"Nice. I still feel cold, but I’m fine now. My body temperature is not decreasing," I said.

"So, the cold doesn’t bother you at all now?" Victoria asked.

"It doesn’t. But why do you have to ask me that way?" I asked.

"Nothing for you to worry about," she said.

"Okay then. It must be some sort of joke only people from your world understand anyway. Let’s pick up the pace. There’s no need for us to walk up the wall slowly like before," I said

"I think it’s best if we climb the wall slowly like before. If the spirits up there don’t like to be surprised, then they don’t want anyone to get to where they are quickly anymore. So being slow might be better," Airy said.

That’s right. Everyone has their own preferences. Even spirits.

Airy loves cake. Breezy loves adventure. And the earth spirit who helped us prefer to stay in that island.

So it’s no wonder that the spirits on this mountain could have their own preferences. And if they don’t like someone climbing the mountain quickly, they won’t like me if I do that.

And so, we continued our journey by climbing the mountain slowly.

At least we have eaten our meal before climbing again. So I hope that we can get to the top before night.

But if we can’t get there even at night, then we will just go back, get some rest and meal, then return here again tomorrow to continue from where we left off.

And so, we really can’t get there before night. So we returned back to Cassau, and will continue climbing the next day.

And the next day, as soon as I opened a portal to the rock wall, I was greeted by hundreds of small flying people who entered the portal.

"You there! How dare you disrespect the task given to you!" one of the spirits said.

...What the hell? I don’t know them, but it seems like they know me as they were waiting for me to open the portal.

But what was that? Disrespect? Task? Given to me?

I’d like to complain, but we need their help. They are spirits. And from what I can see from them, it seems like they are not just one type of spirit. There are various types of them.

"Umm... excuse me, but this is our first meeting. So I want to know what you meant by task," I said.

"Not only did you left behind your familiar so you can climb the wall, but you use portal so you can rest whenever you want?! How come someone like you chosen by the spirits to complete the... task?"

While he was complaining, the spirit who was talking suddenly stopped as he looked at the two spirits who were with me. Airy and Breezy.

"...You two are not from the Spirit Paradise?" he asked.

"Spirit Paradise? What’s that?!" Breezy asked.

"There’s a paradise for spirits?" Airy asked curiously.

"...Oh, no. Sorry, but you didn’t climb the mountain because a spirit gave you that task?" the spirit asked me.

"No. I’m just looking for spirits to help us improve our magic. And that mountain is just one of our destinations. So I know nothing about any task," I said.

Does it mean that there’s something to be received if I finish the task? If so, then I will do it.

Also, that thing called Spirit Paradise. Does it mean that the place is somewhere the spirits are gathering together? If that’s the case, then I should be able to find other type of spirits there. And everyone can improve their level quickly!

Well, for now, it’s best to be polite to these spirits first.

For now, let’s get Airy and Breezy closer to them. They have a lot of things they want to ask. And they also told the spirits about everything they asked them. Including things about me.

As for me, to make sure that they are not wary of me and afraid, I need to maintain the portal as much as possible. I already made it smaller little by little. But it must still be there or the spirits will think that I’m trapping them here.

Of course I drunk a lot of Mana Potions because of it. I think I will go to the bathroom a lot later.

Everyone in the house also looked at the spirits curiously. I just asked Lina to prepare some cakes for the spirits. And they happily eat them all.

"You’re all good humans! The wind spirit and air spirit with you has confirmed it. I apologize that I assumed you to be disrespecting the task given when no one given you such task at all," the spirit said. With his face covered with the cream from the cake.

"I also apologize to make you think that way. Can I ask you what that task is all about?" I asked.

The spirit then looked at the other spirits before they all nodded. Do they agree to answer because I bribed them with cakes?

"This is a task from the Spirit King. He delegated spirits to go out of the paradise and to find someone competent to finish the task. Once they finish the task, they are allowed to ask for one wish that will be granted by the Spirit King," he said.

One wish! I can get them to help us improve our magic!

Or even better! I can ask the Spirit King to tell me the location of the Evil God!

"Then what is the task? Is it to climb that mountain?" I asked.

"Yes. One must climb that part of the mountain with only their strength. No magic and no familiars. This is actually not a disadvantage at all for an Aura user like you. Because in the past, the Spirit King is fond of Aura users," the spirit said.

"Then, can I go and receive that task? I will complete it as soon as possible," I said.

"Well, you have to be given that task by a spirits who have been picked by the Spirit King. Lucky for you, three of us were picked by the king! We can give three people the chance to climb the mountain!" the spirit said.

That’s it? They can give us the chance so easily?

Maybe because of the bribe. Or maybe because they learned that we’re not bad guys thanks to Airy and Breezy.

But three people, huh? For now, let’s ask them more about the task.
