Chapter 1168: All Quests Complete

Four different quests in four different countries.

I took the one near Tatrama first then move to Consenza. For the third, I will go to Varadis. Then Arturo will be last.

It’s just like the time when I was traveling all over the continent for the first time to spread Blobbies to the Kings so everyone can have an easier time traveling around. That was also the start of our alliance.

Now, I’m going in the same turn. Tatrama, Consenza, Varadis, and then Arturo. Though I’m using portal this time.

And now I’m in Varadis. And I’m with Candy this time. An agent and also one of my lovers. I picked her because the place we’re checking this time is a volcano. And she has high heat resistance due to being a master level fire mage.

That’s one of the reasons. The other reason is that she’s a lightning mage. A master level one at that. And this volcano was said to have lightning striking the area nearby over and over again. That is why the quest is still on hold.

"Can you protect yourself from lightning?" Candy asked as we rode Ray together to the volcano.

"I can simply cover myself with Victoria or Blobbies. If possible, I’d like to see how fast the lightning is and dodge them," I said.

Though if it’s a natural phenomenon, I think Candy’s lightning would be more powerful. But we’ll see.

"It’s over there," I said as I pointed at the volcano. The sky is dark and a lightning struck around that volcano over and over again.

"Ah, now I know how my enemies feel when I strike them with lightning over and over again," Candy said.

"Hearing that in the battlefield is scary. Good thing most of the time, you fought the enemies far from the others," I said.

Usually, Candy would fight far from the others. Because of the noise she created from her lightning magic. The thunderous sound as her lightning strikes is so loud.

Now we’re in the range, we dropped from Ray’s back. I don’t know if Ray can endure lightning or not. But I don’t want to test it. So we’re walking from here.

"It really is surrounded by lightning everywhere. I heard that even when the sky is clear, there will still be lightning. Roy, you’ve never been here before?" Candy asked me.

"Nope. If I had, I would have known," I said.

When I’m traveling alone or with someone, it’s usually when I have a goal. A destination to go to. So I didn’t really bother checking other places that is not related to my destination.

Maybe I have passed this place before and thought that it’s just a regular lightning. But I don’t remember.

"Maybe the one that we need to investigate is the lightning instead of the volcano. Well, let’s just move around and see what we can find," Candy said.

She’s the agent here. She has experience in investigating while I’m not as detailed as her. So I followed her lead.

We enter the area in the mountain where the lightning struck over and over again. I even almost got hit by them. But I dodged the lightning in time. However, it’s just too annoying. So I covered my body with Victoria to make myself safe.

As for Candy, she’s totally fine. Maybe if we don’t meet the Spirit King, she would stay here to cultivate her lightning element. Well, she’s a master level mage now. Maybe next time she’s trying to reach the stage beyond master level, she will try doing it here.

If there are any monsters immune to lightning they would like it here. In fact, Candy found some traces of monsters living here. But there’s no more of them.

"They used to be here. But now, not anymore," Candy said.

"Let’s go to the volcano and check it. I think I see something weird inside the magma," I said.

If there were really monsters here, then it’s possible that they were afraid of the magma monster in the volcano. Let’s check. And if it’s a monster we can’t talk with, let’s kill it.

So we climb the volcano. And from the peak, we look down at the crater.

"I didn’t see anything," Candy said.

"I see that the magma is moving weirdly. It’s unnatural. As if it is a living being. Oh, it is a living being," I said as I found something in there.

Then, the magma rises. But it’s not because the volcano erupted. It turned into a giant magma monster.

"Hmm... it’s not that different from a slime. Maybe it’s a lava slime or something," I said.

"You’re not hot?" Candy asked.

"I’m using Aura to protect my body," I said.

There’s really a monster in the volcano. Then our job will be to defeat it before we continue with the investigation. Or maybe we can recruit this monster to join my kingdom.

"Hello! I came in peace!"

As soon as I said that, the monster spit out lava at me. And I simply cut it.

This is not the first time I see a monster that spit lava. I had defeated one before I think. And as expected, it’s not something I can recruit.

"I guess I’ll defeat it," I said.

"No. I like this place," Candy stopped me from moving.

"What?"

"A lightning nearby and a volcano. Seems like this place is good for me. If I want to reach the stage beyond master level in either my lightning element or fire element, I can do it here. I feel that this place is better than the Spirit Mountain for me. Let the lava monster live since it might be useful for me," Candy said.

"Well, if that’s what you want. Then you can investigate this place more while I distract that monster. Once you’re done, tell me," I said.

Seems like I won’t kill any monster here. But this place is better to improve a mage who has both lightning element and fire element? Awesome.

So I play around with the lava monster. I can see inside the lava that there’s something like a core that I need to destroy if I want to kill it. So as long as I keep slashing around that core, it won’t die. And that’s what I do.

Whenever it tried to rise from the magma, I slash it down. And I keep repeating it for a few minutes until Candy finished with the investigation.

"There’s nothing worth mentioning. Other than this is a dangerous place for ordinary hunters. My guess is that the quests are for anyone to see if there’s anything anyone can obtain from places like this. Well, if they are lower than master level, they could die," Candy said after I retreated from the volcano with her.

To be honest, I don’t care the intention of investigating these four places. I just need to do it to reach S-rank.

Well, Candy and the others are racking their brains to find out the guild’s intention. Maybe they even think that the guild is related to the cult. Directly or indirectly. That’s why they want to know.

"Maybe the people from the guild are just greedy and they want to take any resources possible from any location without sharing them with a country. Well, I hope you can find something with your investigation," I said.

"Then I will go give the report. What will you do next?" Candy asked.

"Go to the last destination right away. It’s just another floating island. How hard could it be?"

So I brought Candy to the headquarter of the guild and I opened a portal to Arturo to the closest place to the location.

I rode Ray with Wendy this time. Since she’s a wind mage, I thought it would be a good idea.

And this place is the most disappointing because there’s nothing to find here. It’s just another floating island. I have a lot of them already.

I thought that maybe in one of the quests, there will be a sign of the cult. But I didn’t find anything at all.

Do they really hide in another continent? Should we invade other continent? Or are they in Monsters World? I can’t tell.

Anyway, now that I’m done with all four quests, I brought Wendy with me to report to the guild.

"There. All four quests are done. All of them have been completed. There’s no more reason for you to block me from reaching S-rank, right?" I asked.

"...Congratulation on your—"

"No. No congratulation to me. It’s the obvious result. And it shows how incompetent you are. Just make me an S-rank already and hope we won’t meet again. As you know, I have too many involvements with all kingdoms in this continent. If you try to make it hard for me, it won’t be hard for me to find any evidence of your corruption. Just get it done," I said.

They are too ambitious while being incompetent. I hope I will never meet them again. And by threatening them to find evidence of their corruption, it won’t be hard for me to take any quest I want next time.

Well, that’s that. I’m an S-rank now. It feels... nothing. It’s just a useless title to show off how amazing I am.

I said that because I already know that I’m amazing without it.
