Chapter 1167: Underground Castle
Chapter 1167: Underground Castle
It’s done. The first mission from the guild. And not only that. We gained a new force and also new knowledge. We should be able to build a ship out of metal.
Though in the end, a single mage can destroy it easily. I guess even if we make a huge ship out of metal or anything, we will still need powerful mages to steer and protect it anywhere.
Anyway, creating those things is not important to me. The others can handle it. I’ll just finish the quests. I still have three more until I can reach S-rank. I want to finish those quests before the banquets to spread my name. When I came out in public as the Aura user and the real leader of Wolf’s Crown, and probably showing them that I lead an entire kingdom of monsters, no one should dare to challenge me or even try to recruit me to be their subordinate.
I’m an Aura master and a master level summoner. Why should I join under someone else? Even this alliance with all Kings gathering was made because of me. I won’t be someone as low as a noble’s subordinate.
Maybe Albert wants to spread the fact that I’m the previous King’s hidden child. But isn’t that dangerous?
Not because the reputation of the previous King will be destroyed. But there’s also a chance of some random people pretending to be another hidden child of the previous King.
Well, we have the centaurs to prove their words. Even if the centaurs don’t help, we can simply get the Spirit King to read those people’s memory to see if it’s the truth or not. I wonder if the Spirit King will do it. I’m pretty sure he enjoys watching people’s memories. But lately, I heard that he was pretty selective when reading someone’s memories.
Maybe because all of them have similar memories. Those I brought there were mostly agents and soldiers. So their pasts were quite similar to the others. And that made the Spirit King bored from reading people’s memories too much.
Well, isn’t that good then? If I bring someone who is pretending to be another secret child of the previous King, the Spirit King will probably come and read his or her memory. Thinking that it will be something more interesting than just another loyal soldier.
Well, I believe Albert or someone else would have something prepared already. If they need me to do something, they will ask me.
For now, it’s my time to clear the second quest. And I picked to do the underground castle’s quest. The one where I need to investigate the appearance of the underground castle.
This time, it’s just a castle. Not an entire kingdom.
Previously, the existence of the underwater kingdom was discovered by a water mage who likes diving around a decade ago. That water mage was quite trustworthy at that time. But after saying that there’s an underwater kingdom, no one believed her.
Seriously, the guild decided to make a quest based on something that they didn’t even believe? What about the next one?
For the underground castle, it was discovered by an earth mage traveling through the desert. A hunter specialized in mapping and exploration instead of subjugating. And it was just discovered around five years ago.
Many mages were sent. But there were strong monsters around the area where the underground castle was discovered. Even the underground castle became a nest for some underground monsters.
Can they talk? Will they join my kingdom? I want to see if they are a race that I can communicate with.
So for this time, I will be going there with Celestine. I didn’t ask Sara because I have already asked her before. And now, she doesn’t think that she will be necessary for the job since it’s just a castle. With my Divine Vision alone, I should be able to see everything.
Well, I agree. Though I will need to see how big the castle is first. If it turns out into a dungeon again just like at the underwater castle... nothing changed. I’ll still do it alone. I’ll just say that there’s a dungeon underground.
And so, here we go. Traveling on the desert again with Celestine. Just like a few years ago.
Wait, how long has it been? I think it was quite a long time ago. Damn my memory.
"I’ll use my magic to travel. This way, I can also feel the sand and everything underneath," Celestine said.
So it means that we won’t be riding Ray. There goes the chance of me getting hugged from behind by Celestine. What a shame.
It was way faster than back then. Back when we were traveling across the desert. But it’s still slower than Ray. IN fact, if I run, I would be faster already.
But it’s okay. Let’s just enjoy the view from here. The sand. Then there’s sand. Oh, that’s sand. And obviously, the sand.
Though Celestine seems to be enjoying it. At least she’s having fun.
"I think I feel something underground over there. Though there’s something moving near that area," Celestine said.
She’s right. My Divine Vision also shows me that there are monsters burrowing on the sand and moving around freely as if they’re swimming. And just by the look of it, I don’t think I want to have them join my kingdom.
"Let’s just kill them all and get to the underground castle. They are not worth talking to," I said.
"Are you sure? If they can somehow speak, then we will have another force that can fight underground," Celestine said.
"We already have a lot of master level earth mages. I don’t think we need a force specialized for underground battle. Also, they are worms. Giant worms with fangs eating everything in sight. Well, if they can somehow see," I said.
"...I hate worms. I’ll kill them all," I said.
Maybe the report was not just because the monsters defeated the hunters who tried to explore the underground castle. But it’s because those hunters retreated after seeing the monsters nearby. They erased their memories because of the disgusting appearance of the worm.
"I’ll kill them before they even came out to the surface. I don’t even want to see them. Just sensing how they move underground made me disgusted," Celestine said.
But I can see them just fine. Without them knowing who killed them, they got crushed by the sand around them. That’s just cruel.
Well, not really. They are worms. I think being eaten by them would be crueler.
"Seems like there’s nothing worth much about the castle," I said.
I look underground and see a cave under the sand. And in that cave, there’s a castle.
Seems like someone in the past covered the castle with Earth Dome. Then the sandstorm ended up covering the dome and buried the castle within.
There are a lot of skeletons inside the castle. I guess they have died there a long time ago. Maybe it’s another kingdom erased from history.
"Is there nothing there?" Celestine asked.
"I think that place was used as a nest for some type of monsters in the past. But they have gone. There were traces of the castle used by someone or something," I said.
Other than human skeletons, there are also some other skeletons. Most likely the monsters that nested in this place.
There’s no dungeon here. Just an underground cave.
And it’s not that huge. It’s just about the size of an average floating island that we have. It means that I can even open a huge portal and transport the castle somewhere.
"So, I got this idea. Instead of just investigating it, I want to transport the entire castle to the headquarter of the guild. Will you help me?" I asked Celestine.
"Sure. I will help. But I’m curious about a kingdom from the past. Maybe it’s related to Consenza one way or another. Let’s go in first then you will bring some agents from Consenza to investigate this place," Celestine said.
I guess that’s the main reason why Lynn and Claudia asked me to bring Celestine for this quest. They want to learn about the past kingdom and what make them buried under the desert.
There’s nothing nearby. No water. So how come there’s a castle built in the middle of nowhere? Maybe there were abundant amount of water mages here at the time. So there’s no need to look for another source of water.
Maybe they want to know what causes the disappearance of a kingdom so they can learn a way to prevent it happening to them. Well, I’ll just help a bit.
I checked inside the castle with Celestine. The building is old so Celestine has to support it with her magic.
After not finding anything, I brought some agents from Consenza to check the castle.
"Sir Roy, if you don’t mind, just bring me to the headquarter of the guild to deliver the report. Then you can continue with the next quest," one of the agents said.
"So I don’t have to transport the castle there?" I asked.
"...I don’t know why there’s a need to transport the castle somewhere else. But there might be a lot more we can learn about this castle. So please don’t move the castle," he said.
Well, that’s that then. Now, two quests are over. And I didn’t get any more monsters joining my kingdom. I’ll take a break today and do the third quest tomorrow.
