Chapter 1163: Are They Mermaids?
’Crabbe, let’s go!’
So, my familiars and I entered the tunnel under the underwater castle. It will probably go to a dungeon.
From my experience, underwater dungeons are hard mainly because of the unknown monsters there. And most of them are huge.
But I’m not the me in the past anymore. And I have Crabbe who can fight well underwater. So I don’t have to be afraid anymore.
Seriously, why should I be afraid when I have met the Kaiser Whale? That guy was the baddest guy in the entire ocean of Monsters World. The other monsters look like pipsqueaks compared to him.
The dungeon was quite deep. There are monsters as expected. But with Crabbe, Victoria, Ray, and I combined effort, those monsters were easily defeated.
’I thought there would be mermaids here,’ Victoria said.
’What’s with you and mermaids?’ I asked since she keeps saying of how much she wants to see a mermaid.
’Because they’re one of the fantasy creatures that I always want to meet but couldn’t find any. And won’t it be good for you since you will just recruit them to the kingdom in the end?’ Victoria asked me back.
’Obviously if the monsters can speak our language, I will try to recruit them. If not, then killing them is the easiest thing to do.’
Many monsters can fly and there are more that can run. But for swimming, only the Crab People and Spot’s family can fight. So if we can add mermaid that is said to be good at fighting underwater as Victoria imagined, then it would be great. But if that is only her imagination and not reality, that would be a shame.
Maybe I should start looking for monsters that can fight underground. There are many master level earth mages hiding underground. So it’s best to have monsters that can move well underground.
But I don’t know any other than mole monsters. Maybe there will be some weremole or something.
There’s a summoner who have a mole monster as his familiar. I think I remember the mole more than the summoner. But that monster can’t speak our language. It can follow orders via telepathy but it can’t speak. That’s a shame.
But maybe like the pandas, I can find a smaller version of the mole monster that is actually the leader of the tribe or something. Then the other mole monsters can follow.
Well, it doesn’t have to be a mole. Maybe a monster race that can use earth magic. Is there any?
Wait, Jewel once fought against rhinoceros monsters that can use earth magic. That’s how she started to be able to use earth magic. Maybe there will be others.
...Seriously, I think beastform mages are the most overpowered mages. Much like summoners. But they can actually use all kind of element depend of whether the species of the animal they transform to have a variant types of monsters.
Next time I see whatever type of rhinoceros it is, I’ll ask Jewel before calling her.
Hmm? Wait. I haven’t met members of the cult who are beastform. Maybe I have. But it seems like they are much rarer than even space mages. Are they planning something with the beastform mages?
Well, I can’t think about that now. Because as we dive into the dungeon, there’s a huge mouth approaching us. The mouth is half the size of the tunnel we’re in. So we will get eaten if we continue.
I need to focus on this. Though this shouldn’t be important because my job in this place should be over already. But I just do it because I want to.
’I’ll take care of it!’ Victoria said as she dived toward the huge mouth with Ray.
That monster down there is like a serpent. Larger than Spot but shorter. It has huge mouth. But it’s weak because Victoria could defeat it with Aura thanks to Ray.
’Seriously, if that thing is under there, then it makes sense if the mermaids all died,’ I said.
’Do you think the mermaids are weak?’ Victoria asked.
’How would I know? Let’s just go deeper in,’ I said.
We continue deeper and as we reach the deepest area, we entered a huge room with monsters even bigger than the one before. Still, they are just huge. Not threatening.
’Let’s just kill them all. There’s nothing else we can do,’ I said.
’Are there no treasure chests in there?’ Victoria asked.
’There are some. But they are not worth much. You’ll fight the monsters I grab the treasures,’ I said.
It didn’t take long for us to get rid of the monsters and grab all the treasures. There’s nothing else to find here.
’Let’s just go out. Tomorrow, I’ll go to Consenza first and see the underground kingdom,’ I said.
Then we swam up to the surface so I can open a portal. But near the surface, there’s an island that was not supposed to be there before. An island appeared out of nowhere.
’Crabbe. Victoria. There’s an unknown island suddenly appeared in the surface. It’s floating in the water. I guess the waves carried it here,’ I said.
’Is there any monsters there?’ Victoria asked.
’They are like human. But they have gill. Maybe they are the mermaids you talk about,’ I said.
’I want them to be half human and half fish though. Well, this might be good as well. So, are you trying to recruit them?’ Victoria asked.
’At least I won’t be hostile toward them. Oh, some of them carried tridents and are swimming here. Crabbe, go talk with them. Tell them that we mean no harm unless they started it first,’ I said.
I can’t speak underwater after all. So while we’re down here, it’s up to Crabbe to tell them our intention here.
Still, there’s a floating island in the sky. And now, there’s a floating island in the sea. Won’t this island easily be turned upside down by the waves?
And as expected, those monsters approached us.
"Who are you and what are you doing under our island?!" one of them asked.
So I relayed my intention to Crabbe who will speak to them. At least we already know that they speak our language.
"We’re here to investigate the sinking kingdom down there. The human over there is my master, Roy. And I’m Crabbe. We mean no harm. And also, it’s your island fault to get carried by the waves to above us. We just want to resurface and your island somehow ended up above us," Crabbe said exactly as I told him to.
"We can’t trust you if you’re with a human," one of them said.
I told Crabbe to continue speaking while we’re underwater. But the monsters refused everything we said. They don’t believe that we meant no harm at all. It’s annoying.
’Crabbe, let’s just ignore them and let’s explore that island instead. Oh, wait. You can just stop these monsters and see how well they are in fighting underwater. I’d like to see if they are willing to join our kingdom or not,’ I said to Crabbe.
Then Victoria and I continue rising to the surface as Crabbe blocked those monsters from approaching. Still, for them to notice us underwater when they were on the island meant that they have good detection skill. At least for everything water related.
I also watched how they fight Crabbe. They fought really well with those tridents. It’s like the angels back when I met them for the first time. They are good with spears but now, they can’t be compared to them.
These monsters are similar to the angels back then. Does it mean that they can be much better if they trained? I don’t know. And I also don’t know what magic they can use.
"AAARGGH! That’s good! But not good enough!"
And I found the answer right away. They use electricity underwater. Maybe it’s lightning magic. I don’t know. But it electrocuted Crabbe.
Some more monsters jumped from the island. Let’s hurry or they will electrocute me.
Riding Ray together with Victoria, we reached the surface soon after. And the island was full of similar monsters. Both male and female.
I just casually landed on the island with all the monsters there aiming their trident at me with hostility.
"Who are you, human?" one of them asked.
"I’m the King from Monsters Kingdom," I said as I opened a portal to Monsters World where my kingdom is. And from the portal, various kinds of monsters appeared. Will this be enough to stop their hostility at me?
My force is bigger than theirs. And just one monster alone underwater is enough to stop several of them. They see into the portal and saw a lot more monsters including even dragons.
"Are we fighting?" Shelia asked as she entered the portal.
"If it happens, don’t kill them. I’d like to see what they want and why they became hostile toward me right away," I said.
It seems like they have some trouble with humans before. I want to hear. Maybe if it’s because something that happened around a thousand years ago, it might be related to the Evil God somewhat. I can’t really tell how old a monster is because even a young one could be older than a millennium.
