Chapter 1073: Human Trafficking in Consenza

"Roy, I need your help today."

While I was riding on Spot’s back who is willing to come with me today, I got a call from Claudia. It’s rare for her to call me. But when she did, it’s usually something urgent.

Lynn wouldn’t call me. And the one who would call me the most from Consenza is Celestine. So for Claudia to call me there must be something important to tell me.

But I choose to be calm and didn’t open a portal to Consenza right away. It’s because everyone told me to.

A few times already, I opened a portal when someone called me saying it was something urgent. And when I got there, they were unprepared to greet me. It was funny to see a leader of a country wearing sleepwear.

Because of that, they decided to tell me to never open a portal without their permission or unless it’s truly an emergency. And of course I replied by saying to them to not make things more complicated than it is.

I could hear them saying something as if it’s really urgent. That’s why I opened a portal directly to their location before. So if they don’t want me to do that again, they have to be calm. If I sense that they’re not calm when calling me, I will go there right away.

And right now, Claudia is calling me. Even though she said that she needs me, I didn’t go there because she sounded so calm. Just like her usual self.

"So, what’s wrong? Did you guys find the cult’s base or something?" I asked.

"Not yet. But it’s also something important. We found the base of a certain human trafficking organization," Claudia said.

Really? That’s good. Though why does she think that she had to tell me about it? I’m looking for the cult.

And no matter how bad of an organization they are, I don’t think they can match against a few master level mages. So there’s really no need for me to go there at all.

"And why are you telling me this?" I asked.

"It might sound unimportant to you. But human trafficking is bad no matter what. And don’t you think that if there’s any criminal organization that exists somewhere on Earth, there’s a high chance that they are related with the cult. And it’s human trafficking. So this might be where they were recruiting their members," Claudia explained.

"Yeah, but I still don’t see any need for me to help."

"We need to be sure. Just having master level mages to raid that place won’t be enough. We have to be sure that we caught everyone and if they have any escape path we can’t detect, you can help us with it. And it might not be much for you, but doing things like this will keep you sharp. I’m sure you’re bored of searching the pyramid, right?"

Oh, so she wants to use me. Well, I don’t mind. As she said, it might be related to the cult.

"Then I’ll help."

I didn’t say that from the phone. I already opened a portal and enter it together with Spot in his smaller form.

Looking at us, Claudia put her phone down on the desk and looks at me.

"And we need at least a centaur... thank you for bringing one here."

While she’s asking me, I opened another portal and let a centaur enter it before closing the portal.

Centaurs are monsters that live in a herd. So they are mostly together. That’s why they mostly stay in the village together. Though there are few of them who decided to leave the village on their own.

For them, some countries decided to take them in. They were given some privilege as well for helping the country with their truth and lie seeking ability.

But there’s no centaur in Consenza. So I asked a centaur to come.

Why aren’t there any centaurs in Consenza when even a smaller country has three centaurs?

Well, some of the centaurs have been there before. But they don’t like the desert. And Consenza is an empire that was built a long time ago in a desert. So the centaurs don’t like it here.

Then we were brought to one of the members of the organization that they captured. They interrogated him and I just watched in silence. It’s still better than looking for the pyramid not knowing where it is.

And we finally found something. The prisoner lied about his previous statement. And now, he spoke the truth of where the base is located.

"We have sent some people to the previous location. And we will send another stronger group to the real location. Roy, I want you to go to where the fake location was mentioned. They must have set up some traps for us there and—"

"By the way, where’s Celestine? If it’s human trafficking, there must be children involved. And there’s no way Celestine would leave them be," I interrupted Claudia and asked about Celestine’s whereabouts.

"She’s with the first group going to the first location," Claudia said.

"Then there’s no need for me to go there, right? And isn’t it better if I go to the real location and grab all the hostages as soon as possible. It’s something I can do easily with portal," I suggested.

"...Actually, the first person to notice the human trafficking incident was Celestine..."

And Claudia started explaining how things happened.

Celestine was looking around at several orphanages in a city. She loves children very much. She even said that she wanted to have a lot of children in the future. But I told her to wait until my job is done since I don’t want to have any of my children living in a world at war.

Anyway, she was looking around when she detected someone was taking a child somewhere. And she chased after the culprit

Being a master level mage, it didn’t take long until she reaches the guy. And that guy was weak. But he’s cruel.

With no way out, that guy just killed the child right in front of Celestine. And Celestine killed that guy.

That didn’t just happen once. It happened several more times. With not just Celestine, but also other agents.

Kidnappers who couldn’t escape just killed the hostages without mercy. They’re as cruel as the cult. Probably more. Because even the cult still prefers to raise children so they can be used as manpower. Either willingly or forced.

They found more about the organization and now, Celestine and three other master level mages are going there to destroy the organization. Even before Claudia made any plan, Celestine grabbed the other master level mages and left.

"Ah, so you want me to stop Celestine instead. Though for me personally, I don’t want to stop her at all. They deserve to die. And it’s better if we do it after we make sure that all the hostages are safe," I said.

"I know. But I want you to stall for time so Celestine can’t destroy our plan. In the real location, we will get all the hostages first and find all the bases where the hostages are being held. If Celestine goes there before we learned everything, we won’t be able to safe everyone. After you meet up with Celestine, tell the other master level mages to follow my plan and you can go with Celestine to free all the hostages from where they’re being held," Claudia suggested.

Then I’m going to stop Celestine from going wild. I guess it’s something I can do.

"I know you haven’t going out with her yet. But it’s just a matter of time, right? I think you’re already official anyway. You’re the only person who can stop her from going wild. I trust you with this mission. Because if Celestine becomes more dangerous, something could happen to Lynn as well," Claudia said.

"I’ll see what I can do. So, tell me where they’re going."

"You’re not going to open a portal?" Claudia asked.

"We don’t know if they’re already in the location or not. If it’s a trap, then it will be dangerous if a portal suddenly open in front of them. They are people who decided to kill the hostage if the situation turns bad. Who knows what they will do if some stranger appeared from a portal? I’ll go there with Spot. We’re better at sneaking together," I said.

Claudia then told me where the previous location that the prisoner said. And I rode on Spot’s back to go there as fast as we can.

Seeing children being killed right in front of her, Celestine must be angry right now. I guess I’m really the only one who can stop her.

"Why not just have children quickly? If she has her own children, she will less likely to go outside on her own," Victoria asked.

"I’m a coward, remember? I don’t want my children to be born in this kind of world at this time. Also, having children means having more weaknesses. They can be taken as hostages. And I’m someone who goes around the world and even to another planet and rarely return home. Once someone finds out that I’m the Aura user, they won’t stop targeting my children. Though the story will be different if Celestine has fallen in love with another man other than me. Then she can ask him to have children with her," I said.

"You don’t mind if your woman leaves you?"

"I will not be okay. But if it’s better to be with another man than be with me, then I just hope for the best."

Fortunately, no one ever thought that way so far. So I still hope that I will still be with everyone after the war is over.
