Chapter 1046: Fake Wolf’s Crown
Chapter 1046: Fake Wolf’s Crown
"Just trying to spend your time, but you ended up gaining another disciple. What do you think, Roy" Victoria asked.
"I’m more curious why you suddenly decided to stay with me instead of going back to Cassau," I said.
"It’s interesting that we get another new friend," she said.
That’s what she thinks? It’s right though.
The future Queen of Arturo is already started to open up with the girls yesterday. And in a few days, I’ll be training her. It’s best if Victoria is here with me then. So it’s fine that she didn’t return home.
"What will you do now?" she asked.
"Well, I’ll take a few quests in my free time. If I can somehow find more about the cult, that would be great. But I doubt that it will happen so easily. I’ll just take normal quests until it’s time to train..." I stopped talking because I forgot her name already.
"Maya. Her name is Maya," Victoria said.
"Right. She also needs to prepare since it might take some time away from her family for the training. Though once she can open up a portal, she might return to her family whenever she wants," I said.
I forgot to ask her if she has a familiar already or not. And what kind of monster is it, I don’t know. I’ll ask her when we meet in a few days.
Until then, let’s get some pocket money by taking quests from the guild.
I entered a guild alone. I’m acting like a solo hunter as usual.
And when I was looking at the board to find a quest, someone called out to me.
"Hey, are you alone?"
It’s a girl. And I am just that much charming to her that she called out to me.
’Whatever you’re thinking, I’m sure it’s wrong. She didn’t call you because of that,’ Victoria said via telepathy.
There’s obviously someone who doesn’t let me dream here. Whatever.
"I am indeed alone. What do you want?" I asked the girl.
"Well, if you’re alone, would you like to join our party? We’re going on a quest. But the quest said that it needs at least a party of five people to take. We need one more person," the girl said.
Ah, there are usually quests like that. And whenever the party doesn’t have enough members, they would pick someone who is going alone.
And right now, I think I’m the only one here without a party. That’s why she approached me.
"We only have four members. If you’re free, will you come with us?" the girl asked.
"What quest is it?" I asked.
"This one."
It’s a quest from a nearby village. It will just take about one or two hours walk to that village. So we can get there, finish the quest, and return in one day.
It’s a mission to subjugate a Giant Salamander. It reminds me of the Stampede in Melk. That Salamander was the last monster I killed.
And right now, I can kill it with one hit. Should I take this quest with them?
But I don’t want to reveal my strength so much. It’s best for me to go alone. Even if I’m not alone, it should be with someone I know instead of strangers.
The village only asked for the Salamander to be killed. But the guild decided that the Salamander is too strong for average hunters, so the guild added a condition of a party of five hunters to take it at least. And at least one of the party members should be a B-rank hunter.
Though sometimes, the guild will allow someone to take the quest alone depend on how strong the hunter is. I’m sure I won’t be allowed to do it alone because I’m a C-rank hunter. But if the guild master is someone who knows me, then the guild will allow it.
For now, let’s refuse her offer. I’ll just say that I’m too weak for this.
"Oh, before you say anything, we’re actually from a well-known clan. You know Wolf’s Crown, right? That’s who we are," the girl said before I could refuse it.
...So it’s a party of crooks.
’Roy, if you forget about it, Wolf’s Crown should be our clan,’ Victoria reminded me.
’I know that. After all, I rarely forgot about anyone or anything that I gave names,’ I said.
This girl and her party are swindlers. Using the name of my clan to entice other people.
"Where are your party members?" I asked the girl.
"Over there."
She pointed at a group of girls who are being hit on by some unruly guys. They can easily gather as many men as they want, but they decided to pick me.
I also checked their hunter card. It seems like even though two of them are at least B-rank hunters, none of them are expert level mages.
Should I really waste my time with them? I can just get someone to do it instead. But I think the others are too famous for that. I guess I’m the only one who can do it.
Well, it’s kind of interesting anyway. What can they do anyway? I doubt they can harm me. And it’s good to waste some time until Maya is ready to learn from me.
"I’m not that strong, you know?" I said.
"Don’t worry. The other party members are strong enough to face the Salamander. You can just stand and watch. Of course your share of money will not be as much as the others. We just need someone to add for the numbers," she said.
I think that is doable. Defeating a Giant Salamander with four advanced level mages is possible as long as they have great teamwork.
But they are still people who lied about the clan they’re in. I should ask for some more information.
"I see. That would be nice since the reward is huge already. But what are you doing here? I thought that Wolf’s Crown is a clan in Tatrama. So why are you in Arturo?" I asked.
"We’re a separate party. We split up and decided to take a quest here. So before we return back to Tatrama, we’re thinking of staying here for a while," the girl said without a hint of hesitation.
"I see. But I’m still hesitant. The enemy is a Giant Salamander. So I might be a hindrance if I join," I said.
"It will be fine. We’re strong. You don’t need to do anything. Maybe just carry our baggage if you think that you didn’t participate enough. That will be helpful for us," she said.
She asked me to join her party while she doesn’t know what is my hunter rank and what is my magic level as well. Isn’t that totally suspicious?
’I guess they only look for someone with the stupidest look. And you fit the bill,’ Victoria said.
Yeah. That might be the reason.
"If you accept, then we can go talk with the Guild Master right away about the quest. Are you in?" she asked again.
Guild Master? The Guild Master should know about the most famous clan in the world right now. But is he with them? If so, then there’s a proof of corruption in this guild already.
Well, I’ll get Fabio takes care of it. This is his country.
"Alright, I’m in."
"Great! By the way, what’s your name?" she asked.
"It’s Roy."
And then, she told her friends that they managed to get me to join this quest. And the five of us then entered the Guild Master’s office to talk with him.
He’s not an old man. He’s still young. Seems to be in his late 30s or early 40s.
But to think that he’s doing things like this is unforgivable. I guess our clan has become too big that people started to use it to trick other people.
I can see the Guild Master and these four girls smiling when I entered the office. Seems like I’m just a prey to them. But the truth is that I am the predator. Not the prey.
The Guild Master still explained about the quest thoroughly. Acting like a proper Guild Master. And the party asked some things about the quest like a normal party.
Still, for a B-rank party decided to do this, there must be something they gain by using our clan’s name. I wonder what that is.
For now, I should refrain to show the Guild Master my hunter card. He might realize that I’m the real leader of the Wolf’s Crown’s clan.
But until the meeting was over, no one asked me who I am. And since I didn’t ask them anything as well, they might be thinking that I’m only here for money.
"We have something we need to prepare before we move. We’ll meet at the gate in an hour."
Nice. Now I can use this chance to report to Fabio so that he can investigate the guild.
