Chapter 519: A Risk Worth Taking (II)
Chapter 519: A Risk Worth Taking (II)
"There are at least four guards at the entrance," Edmund whispered, his eyes carefully scanning the dark hallway.
It was hard for Primrose to see the condition of the hallway since it was so dark, and her view was blocked by Edmund. Because of that, she simply believed everything her husband said.
"When I sneak into the corridor, can you distract them with something for a while?" Primrose asked. "That way, they won’t realize that I’m entering from the window."
Edmund nodded. "I got it."
He picked a few pebbles from his pocket—yes, pebbles. It seemed like her husband had already anticipated that he would need to do this, so he had prepared them in advance.
With his other arm still wrapped around Primrose’s waist, he carefully shifted his body so his wife would have a clear path to slip into the corridor.
"You can go in as soon as I give you a hint, got it?" he asked.
Primrose nodded without hesitation. "Got it."
She took several deep breaths to calm her rapidly beating heart.
"Primrose," Edmund suddenly called her name, drawing all of her attention for a moment. "You’ll be fine."
Primrose fell silent for a few seconds before finally giving a small smile. "I know."
With that reassurance, Primrose no longer felt too worried. After all, no matter what happened, her husband would always stay by her side.
Not long after that, Edmund threw a few pebbles toward the window near the soldiers, causing all of them to turn their heads in that direction.
"Now," Edmund whispered.
At the same time, Primrose slipped into the corridor, while Edmund climbed back onto the roof just before the soldiers opened the window near him.
"Who’s there?!" one of the soldiers shouted as he looked left and right, searching for whoever had thrown something at the window.
"Could it be a bird?"
"What kind of bird throws stones at a window?"
"Who knows?" another guard muttered. "Maybe it was just a branch falling."
While they were still busy searching for the culprit, Primrose walked confidently toward them, acting like a lost lamb in the middle of the dark.
"Excuse me, Sir..." Primrose’s soft voice startled all of them, making them turn their attention from the window toward her.
She stopped a few steps away, keeping just enough distance from them. Then she softened her expression, making herself look harmless and gentle, the kind of person no one would see as a threat.
"L-Lady Primrose?! What are you doing here?!" one of the guards blurted out.
[What the hell is this woman doing here?! Didn’t her husband tell her to stay in the room?!]
[Why would a woman like her walk around alone at night?] the other soldier thought. [Did she come here to seduce us? Looking for a kind soldier to help her escape her husband? Well... well... well... Lady Primrose really is beautiful. I wouldn’t mind taking her away from him.]
Yeah... and if he really did that, Edmund would turn the entire Azmeria Kingdom upside down just to find her.
"I think I got lost," Primrose said softly, giving them a small, innocent smile. She fidgeted with her fingers and lowered her head, as if she was too scared to even look at them.
"Lost? Weren’t there guards in front of your room tonight? They should have told you not to leave," one of the soldiers said.
Primrose lowered her head even more. Her voice turned small and shaky. "M-My situation is a bit complicated. I made my husband angry... so he asked me to leave the bedroom for a while."
She hesitated, then continued in a trembling voice, "I-I got really scared..." She covered her lips with her hand, letting out a soft sob. "I’m very afraid of my husband, so I ran as fast as I could after I left the room. T-That’s why the guards didn’t get the chance to stop me."
"P-Please... I don’t want to go back to him tonight." Her voice broke as her shoulders trembled. "He will do bad things to me... I’m so scared..."
The soldiers fell silent for a moment because they weren’t trained to deal with a crying, frightened woman. But slowly, their thoughts began to twist into something ugly, something that Primrose hated.
[Tch... tch... just like I thought, that beast must be a disgusting creature behind closed doors.]
[What a poor woman, but with that kind of face and body, what man wouldn’t want to do bad things to her?]
They thought about many things, but in the end, they all came to the same conclusion. [Maybe we can take advantage of her.]
"Lady Primrose, why don’t you stay with us?" one of the soldiers said. He tried to show her a friendly smile, but Primrose knew better than anyone that he had ulterior motives.
"We have a resting room. Maybe... you can stay there for tonight," the brown-haired soldier stepped closer. The way he looked at her made it clear that he was no longer trying to hide his desire.
"But as you know, Lady Primrose... nothing in this world is free," he added.
Primrose stammered, "I-I will pay you later."
"Ah, no." The other soldier smiled. "You don’t need to pay us with gold or anything like that."
He looked at her slowly, from head to toe. "We only need your company."
[If we take turns...] the soldier thought. [We can guard this place and have fun at the same time.]
Primrose took a deep breath and found it hard to hide her urge to kill these men.
"I-I don’t mind giving you my company," Primrose said. Then she raised her hand slightly, signaling for them to come closer. "Can you come a little closer to me? There’s a secret I need to tell you before I can accompany you tonight."
The soldiers immediately did as she wanted. They even smiled, thinking that Primrose was about to tell them something naughty.
But as they walked closer, all of them were caught by her magic.
"Tonight..." she whispered softly, her eyes turning cold. "From this moment on, you will remain here and guard the west wing. No matter what happens, you will not leave your post. If anyone asks, you will say that everything is normal."
"In your eyes, I was never here, and you have never seen me," she said. "I command you."
