The Mind-Reading Mate: Why Is the Lycan King So Obsessed With Me?

Chapter 518: A Risk Worth Taking (I)

Chapter 518: A Risk Worth Taking (I)

"A-Are you sure no one will find us?" Aster asked, her voice shaking.

Primrose turned to Edmund. "What do you think, husband?"

Edmund didn’t hesitate when he said, "I won’t let that happen."

Primrose smiled and then spoke to Aster. "Did you hear that? If my husband says so, then there’s nothing you need to worry about."

[Nothing to worry about? How can I not worry?!] Aster screamed in her mind. She was already close to losing it.

[We’re trying to sneak into the palace—no, wait, we’re already inside! But we haven’t even reached the west wing yet!]

[Aaa! I’m so scared right now! What if we get caught and the King fires my father?]

Honestly, getting fired wasn’t even the worst outcome. If they were discovered, Lord Keirwyn might even be punished for failing to educate his daughter.

But Primrose kept that to herself because saying it out loud would only make Aster panic more.

"Oh, come on, Aster. You don’t need to panic like that. Everything will be fine, you just have to trust me," Primrose said gently.

Aster gulped. She looked back and forth between Primrose and Edmund, then thought, [Why is she so calm? Doesn’t she feel afraid at all?]

At that same moment, Primrose found herself wondering the same thing.

Why was she acting so calm? Was she really not worried that King Averon might find out she was trying to break into the most secret place in the palace?

Well, the answer was no. She didn’t feel scared at all.

She didn’t really understand it herself, but as long as her husband stood beside her, she felt like she could face anything, even the whole world.

"A-Alright," Aster said at last. "But if something bad happens to me... can you tell my father not to open my sketchbook?"

Primrose rolled her eyes and grabbed Aster’s hand. "You can tell him that yourself." Then she added casually, "I’m not going to explain why his daughter likes drawing two men kissing each other."

[What?] Edmund froze for a second. [No... I must have heard that wrong.]

Primrose didn’t want to waste any more time, so she signaled Callen to bring Aster along with them.

"Eh, wait, wait, wait—why are we going to the balcony?" Aster asked when she realized they weren’t leaving through the bedroom door.

Primrose pushed the balcony door open with a small smile. "There are too many soldiers outside. There’s no way we can leave through the normal route."

To be honest, Primrose wasn’t completely sure they wouldn’t get caught either. But since her husband said she didn’t need to worry, she chose to believe him.

Before Aster could say anything, Callen had already lifted her into his arms. "Forgive me, My Lady, but it’s easier to carry you this way."

Aster’s eyes darted around nervously as she found herself so close to Callen. After all, this was the first time a man had carried her like a bride.

[Why are all these beasts so good-looking? This is so unfair!] she cried in her mind.

[Dear heavens! He’s holding me so tightly! Why is my heart beating this fast?! No, no! I promised myself I wouldn’t fall for any man before I become a great mage!]

Primrose simply shook her head when she heard Aster’s inner struggle. She couldn’t blame her, though, because Callen was indeed handsome, even if he wasn’t as handsome as Edmund.

"Do you already know the route we’ll use to reach the west wing?" Primrose asked Edmund.

Aster had been to the west wing before to make the locks, but she had only taken the normal route, so she wasn’t very reliable when it came to finding another path.

"Yes," Edmund said as he picked Primrose up into his arms. "But no matter how we try to avoid them, we’ll still run into soldiers near the entrance of the west wing. It can’t be avoided."

Edmund spoke calmly, "That’s why... I think I still have to fight them."

Fighting the soldiers wasn’t difficult for the King of Beasts, but the problem was... if Edmund did that, it would be hard for them to control the commotion that followed.

As if he understood what Primrose was thinking, he spoke again, "Don’t worry, my wife. I can handle them without making any noise."

Did Primrose believe that? Yes, absolutely. But was it the best thing to do? Not at all.

Even if Edmund could deal with them silently, the other guards would still notice something was wrong. If the soldiers at the entrance suddenly disappeared, suspicion would spread quickly.

After thinking for a moment, Primrose said, "Can you take me near the west wing entrance first? Then you can follow after me."

Edmund hesitated at first because he clearly didn’t like the idea. But after a short pause, he nodded. "I can do that... but I won’t stay away from you for long."

Primrose gave a small nod. "I know."

With that agreement, their group finally left the room by jumping onto the roof through the balcony.

Primrose’s eyes widened slightly because it wasn’t every day she got to run across rooftops like this, moving as fast as the wind. She tried her best to keep her eyes on Edmund’s face, because if she looked down, she was afraid she might scream out loud.

"You’ll be fine," Edmund reassured her. She could feel his grip tightening, as if he wanted to tell her that he would never let her go. "Just hold on to me."

They moved quickly, jumping from one roof to another. After a while, Edmund raised his hand, signaling Solene and Callen to stop. Then he carried Primrose to a small ledge right in front of a window.

The window was very close to the entrance of the west wing. But since it was still outside the forbidden area, it wasn’t protected by magic and that made it easy for Edmund to open it.

"There are at least four guards at the entrance," Edmund whispered, his eyes scanning the dark hallway carefully.
