Chapter 1389 404: Chaos' Apostle (Part 3)
Through that twisted face of flesh, Lassitina felt a vague sense of familiarity and uttered half a word with a trembling voice.
"Anjie…?"
Upon hearing this name, the monster visibly reacted, its upward-curving mouth splitting even wider.
Seeing that the monster in front of her was indeed Anjie, Lassitina's heart was a mix of fear and excitement. She struggled to sit up, as if grasping at a lifeline, looking at the monster approaching her step by step, she spoke in a pleading tone.
"Anjie! It's me! Lassitina… Don't you recognize me? What… happened to you?"
What happened to you…
The monster, which was at first somewhat calm, suddenly had its already distorted face become even more twisted upon hearing these words.
"Why… did it become… like this…"
A broken, intermittent voice came from its bloated throat, just like a demon from Hell, staring at the face of the "friend" whose complexion had drained of all color.
"Wasn't it… you… who turned me into this?"
Lassitina was completely stunned.
Before she could make sense of it, a palm as large as a pot crashed onto her right face, sending her flying, along with her dislodged teeth.
Clearly, the monster had no intention of killing her easily. It seemed to plan to play with her for a while before sending her on her way.
At that critical moment, when Lassitina's consciousness was fading, convinced she was doomed, a violent explosion suddenly erupted from behind the monster!
"Boom—!"
The furious shockwave toppled the Flesh Giant, causing it to halt its lethal attack, angrily turning towards the source of the assault.
With her last bit of perception, Lassitina glimpsed that it was Ilana standing there, the one she had abandoned in the Maze had neither fled nor hidden but returned to attack.
Beside her stood Miss Ophelia and two other unfamiliar male apprentices, coughing in the choking dust.
"Not a scratch?"
Ophelia stared fiercely at the Flesh Giant, which merely stepped back a few paces without bearing a single mark, her face filled with incredulity.
Hard and Bain wore expressions as if they had seen a ghost.
"What the hell is this thing?"
"Could it be… Chaos' Divine Chosen?!"
Realizing this, their faces turned even grimmer, recognizing it as an existence far beyond what a few mere Magic Apprentices could contend with!
Not only did the Flesh Giant cast an eerie gaze at them, but the surrounding Wailing also gathered around.
These creatures emerged from the pulsating, dark red walls like mindless Zombies, approaching them as if endless.
The situation was urgent, and Ophelia steeled her resolve, gritting her teeth, once again pulling out a thick stack of Magic Scrolls from her Storage Ring!
On those pristine scrolls, the spells for "Explosive Flame Temperature Bomb" were drawn using alchemy ink, each radiating an energy wave that stirred the heart.
If one isn't enough—
Then ten at once!
Seeing Ophelia pull out the scrolls, Hard and Bain's faces turned ashen, crying out in a desperate attempt to stop her.
"Miss Castellion, no!"
"The Maze can't withstand such power! Using them all will cause this place to collapse!"
"That would be perfect!" Ophelia's face bore a hint of madness as she tore open the scrolls and hurled them forward.
"Disappear from this world! Monster!"
The world seemed to press the mute button at that moment.
An intensely bright, fire-red sphere, capable of scorching the surrounding air, expanded instantly some tens of meters ahead of her!
Anjie was stunned.
Facing the searing energy, fear surfaced for the first time in its frenzied eyes, moving its massive body attempting to escape.
However, right at that moment, an ear-splitting roar abruptly exploded, engulfing it along with the surrounding Wailing and even the corridor beneath its feet!
"Boom—!!!"
The rampaging energy shattered the walls, ripped apart the floor, and melted the ceiling!
Even the Magic Apprentices and Assistants far away on the first and second levels were nearly knocked off their feet by the tremor.
"What happened?!" Kurs, wrapped in a blanket, looked up in panic, eyes darting around, finally seeking help from the Assistant next to him.
However, the faces of the two young Assistants were also shrouded in heavy clouds, their right hands tightly gripping their Magic Wands, wand tips trembling slightly.
"Saint Sis above…"
"That was at least Silver Level… no, perhaps even Gold Level magic!"
The middle-aged Assistant frowned tightly.
More concerning than the explosion itself was the ominous aura he detected from the scorching dust.
That was a matter from many years ago.
A catastrophe named Chaos once swept across the desolate snow fields, eventually quelled only when the Great Sage personally intervened…
Elsewhere, at the center of the explosion.
Lassitina didn't even have time to react before she felt a sharp pain in her neck, losing consciousness.
Together with her, two other teammates also fell unconscious.
On the other side, at the explosion's center, a milky white light emerged, enveloping Ophelia and her three teammates.
The light emanated from the necklace on Ophelia's chest.
Her father, Duke Andre, had handed her this necklace before she set out, instructing her to keep it close and never take it off no matter what happened.
