The Lies That Binds

Chapter 177

Chapter 177

The summer sunlight streamed through the windows of Piper’s newly rebuilt home, filling it with warmth and a much-needed sense of peace. After months of constant danger and uncertainty, the quiet was almost disorienting. But Piper welcomed it.

The battle with Salvatore Moretti and his hidden allies had been brutal, but they had emerged victorious. His network was dismantled, his influence diminished, and for the first time in what felt like forever, Piper could breathe without looking over her shoulder.

Still, she couldn’t shake the awareness that calm was often the prelude to chaos.

Her hand rested instinctively on her growing belly as she moved through the living room, picking up Lily’s scattered toys. With a soft laugh, she sat on the couch and closed her eyes, savoring the rare moment of stillness.

Gabriel entered quietly, his steps soft on the hardwood floor. He carried two mugs of tea, setting one on the table beside her.

“Thanks,” she said, opening her eyes and giving him a tired smile.

“You looked like you needed it,” he replied, sitting next to her. “How are you feeling?”

“Exhausted,” she admitted. “But good. Better than I have in a long time.”

Gabriel nodded, his steady gaze fixed on her. “You’ve earned this, Piper. A chance to rebuild. To enjoy what you’ve fought so hard for.”

She sighed, resting her head against the back of the couch. “It doesn’t feel real yet. Every time I close my eyes, I keep waiting for the next crisis to hit.”

“It’s over,” he said firmly. “The threat is gone. Now, it’s time to focus on the things that matter.”

Piper glanced at him, her expression softening. “You mean the baby.”

Gabriel smiled faintly. “Among other things.”

That evening, Piper sat down with Gabriel, Jasper, and Noah in the cozy kitchen, a pot of coffee and a plate of cookies between them. The house felt alive again, the tension that had once filled it replaced by an almost domestic energy.

“I wanted to talk to all of you,” Piper began, her voice calm but serious. “About the future. About us.”

The three men exchanged glances, their expressions varying degrees of curiosity and caution.

“We’ve been through hell together,” she continued. “And I know this situation isn’t exactly normal. But I need to know where you stand—what you see for yourselves in this new chapter of our lives.”

Gabriel was the first to speak, his voice measured. “I’m here, Piper. Always have been, always will be. Whatever you need, whatever this family needs, I’m ready for it.”

She nodded, her heart swelling at his quiet certainty.

Jasper leaned back in his chair, his trademark smirk tempered by something deeper. “You know me, Pipes. I don’t do well with rules or predictability. But for you? For Lily and the baby? I’ll figure it out. Just don’t expect me to bake cookies or join a PTA anytime soon.”

Piper laughed despite herself. “Noted.”

Noah hesitated, his fingers tapping lightly on the edge of the table. “This isn’t exactly the life I imagined for myself,” he admitted. “But after everything we’ve been through, I can’t imagine walking away from it either. From you. I’m in, Piper. Whatever that looks like.”

A heavy but reassuring silence fell over the room. Each man had laid their cards on the table, and Piper felt a flicker of hope that they could navigate the complicated dynamics they’d built together.

“Thank you,” she said softly. “All of you.”

The weeks passed in a blur of preparation. Piper and the men worked together to create a home that felt safe and welcoming, focusing on Lily’s happiness and the impending arrival of the new baby.

Despite their differences, they found a rhythm. Gabriel handled the logistics—securing the house, managing schedules, and ensuring everything ran smoothly. Jasper brought levity and a much-needed sense of humor, often coaxing a laugh out of Piper when she needed it most. And Noah, ever the problem-solver, threw himself into researching everything from baby gear to home renovations, his enthusiasm infectious.

For the first time in years, Piper felt like she had a family—not just Lily, but a team of people who truly cared about her and her future.

But just as she began to believe that peace was within reach, a new challenge emerged.

One evening, as Piper settled onto the couch with her laptop, an email caught her attention. The subject line was simple but tantalizing: “A Unique Opportunity Awaits You.”

Curiosity piqued, she opened the message. It was from an international corporation—one she’d worked with briefly in the past. They were offering her a lucrative business deal: a partnership to expand her company overseas, with an exclusive base in Europe.

The proposal was detailed and enticing, promising growth and influence that she’d only dreamed of. But it also came with a cost—relocating her operations and, potentially, her family.

Piper closed the laptop, her thoughts racing. She couldn’t ignore the possibilities the deal presented, but the timing couldn’t have been worse. With the baby due in a matter of months and her personal life finally finding some stability, the idea of uprooting everything felt overwhelming.

Still, the allure of the opportunity lingered, and she knew she couldn’t dismiss it outright.

The next morning, Piper gathered Gabriel, Jasper, and Noah in the living room, the weight of the decision heavy on her shoulders.

“I got an offer last night,” she began, her tone cautious. “A business deal that could take my company global.”

Gabriel leaned forward, his brow furrowed. “What kind of deal?”

“They want to partner with me to expand into Europe,” Piper explained. “It’s a huge opportunity—one that could change everything.”

“But?” Jasper prompted, his eyes narrowing.

“But it would mean relocating,” she admitted. “At least temporarily.”

The room fell silent as the men processed the news.

“I know it’s a lot,” Piper said, her voice steady despite the storm of emotions inside her. “And I don’t expect any of you to have an answer right now. But I need to know how you feel about it. What it would mean for us—for the baby.”

Gabriel was the first to respond, his voice calm but firm. “I’ll follow your lead, Piper. If this is what you want, we’ll make it work.”

Jasper, ever the realist, leaned back in his chair. “Europe, huh? Sounds exciting. But uprooting everything right now? That’s a hell of a gamble.”

Noah hesitated, his gaze flicking between Piper and the others. “It’s a big opportunity,” he said slowly. “But it’s also a big risk. I’m with Jasper—it’s a lot to take on, especially with the baby coming.”

Piper nodded, her heart heavy with the weight of their responses. She appreciated their honesty, but it didn’t make the decision any easier.

“I’ll need to think about it,” she said finally. “But whatever happens, I want you all to know that this family—our family—comes first.”

The men nodded, their unspoken support evident despite their concerns.

That night, as Piper lay awake in bed, her mind raced with possibilities. The offer was a chance to redefine her legacy, to build something truly extraordinary. But it also threatened the fragile balance she’d fought so hard to create.

Her hand rested on her belly, the fluttering movements of the baby a reminder of what was truly at stake.

As the moonlight spilled across the room, Piper made a silent vow: whatever decision she made, it would be one that honored both her ambition and the people she loved.

And with that thought, a new resolve took root.

Her future was hers to shape, and she wouldn’t let fear or uncertainty hold her back.

But as the days ahead promised difficult choices and unforeseen challenges, Piper knew one thing for certain: the journey was far from over.

The email pinged again as if mocking her hesitation. Piper reached for the laptop, her hand trembling as she opened it. This time, the words at the bottom of the proposal caught her eye:

“This opportunity won’t wait. We’ll need an answer by the end of the week.”
