The two walked to the front of the coffin. Xiu Xi looked at the layers of dust on it and thought about how he would have to hold Jiaojiao in the car later and didn’t want to dirty his hands. So, he asked Jiaojiao to step back a bit, and then he kicked open the top layer of the coffin.
Almost the moment the coffin was opened, a dark green, triangular-headed snake darted out, raising its body and hissing at them. However, the moment its beady little eyes met Xiu Xi’s, it instantly cowered, turned away, and slithered along the coffin, disappearing into the courtyard’s pile of weeds.
Ruan Jiaojiao covered her mouth and nose, immediately looking at Xiu Xi with eyes full of admiration.

Compared to a simple curse, a Nightmare Curse is a thousand times more sinister. While a curse might harm a person’s body, a Nightmare Curse completely traps a soul. A soul given a Nightmare Curse is bound to be eternally confined to a certain place.
If the Evil Nightmare within Feng Nianian’s body is the culprit, it would also explain why Feng Nianian’s soul cannot leave Xin Miao’s body, because it is bound by a Nightmare Curse.
