76: The Plight of Two Siblings
76: The Plight of Two Siblings
Kit:David raced along the hallway, his heart in his throat as he took out his gun, trying his best to keep it from plain sight as he raced towards the washroom.
He had been waiting for some time now, for N’Kit to come out of the restaurant, but when he didn’t do so, even after sending him the message that he was done, he couldn’t help but worry that something had happened to the Master’s lover.
Reaching the washroom, he didn’t waste any time in kicking the door open, not waiting to check if the door was locked or not. But instead of finding N’Kit in any peril, he found him by the sink, throwing water onto his face.
“Is everything alright?” He asked worriedly, out of breath. “What took you so long?”
Kit mustered a smile and a nod. “Yes, everything’s fine, P’David.” He tried to look reassuring. “I just came to the toilet..for urgent business..”
“Ah, I see.” P’David’s face colored, but he still looked around the room for anything suspicious, but found nothing. “Well, just come out whenever you’re ready.”
Kit turned off the faucet and shook his hands over the sink, before turning to P’David. “Actually, you’re just in time. We should head back now.” He was painfully aware of his father hiding in the stall he disappeared into and worried that P’David would catch him in the act.
He needed to get as far away from here as soon as possible, preferably now. His friends’ lives were in danger, and he could never forgive himself if they got hurt due to his negligence.
Unnerved, he hurriedly left the place, brushing past P’David and knowing he would follow. Kit went straight to the car, snapping his seatbelt into place as the older man climbed into the driver’s seat.
The car ride on the way home was mostly silent, with P’David trained not to pry much into Kit’s affairs, so he spent the entirety of it thinking about his encounter with his father.
There was once a time when he wished that his father was alive so that he would never again be in such a situation where his mother and sister would have to nearly run themselves to the ground, in many sad attempts to repay his father’s debt.
He had practically given up all hope when his mother too had passed away, and his sister assumed the role of guardian by taking three jobs simultaneously to try and pay off the damn debt. A debt that had never seemed to lessen no matter how many hours P’Kanya had slaved herself…no matter how much amount they had paid back.
There was a time when Kit had thought that the debt collectors were doing it on purpose, trying to increase their debt so they would have no means left but to sell themselves off. But now…he knew the truth.
If they hadn't met P’Kim when they had… more likely than not, Kit and his sister would have been dead as well. It was not an exaggeration, but a fact. And for that, Kit would be eternally grateful.
But this remorseless pig who wanted to blame Kit and P’Kanya for his own shortcomings? Kit had no such love or sympathy for him. Whenever he thought of his cowardly father, anger flared within him, and he wanted to do something…anything, for the years of pain and suffering they had endured.
But, what could he do? It was only after today’s encounter with his father that Kit realized just how helpless he was.
Now, he was trapped in his father's web of lies and deceit—with nowhere else to go but through.
If he told P’Kim about what had happened, then there was a big chance that his friends and family could be in danger.
Plus, as much as he would have wanted to, it just wasn't possible for P’Kim to keep track of and ensure everyone's safety at all times. Even though he was a powerful man, he was still just… well, a man.
Not an omnipotent god.
Kit felt like he was carrying the weight of a hundred worlds on his little shoulders. He knew that someday, his father’s leverage over him would come to bite him back in the ass, but he had no idea what he was going to do next. What could he possibly do next?
Why? Why hadn’t his father just died when he was supposed to? Even after betraying P’Kim and P’First, the man seemed to have the nine lives of a cat and kept surviving the trickiest of situations.
P’David’s eyes flickered to him for a few seconds from the rearview mirror, but Kit was too preoccupied with his troubles to notice the concerned gaze.
But he was too immersed in his own thoughts to notice P’David’s gaze, or that fact that his perils were written all over his face.
Anyone who was paying enough attention could tell that Kit wasn’t feeling like himself.
He kept on thinking to what would happen if his father dared to approach P’Kanya…what would he do to her? Worse…what would happen when P’Kanya found out that the man she had once admired, the man who she thought had died a tragic death…was still alive and the reason for their current dismay?
No! He couldn’t let that happen. No matter what happened, he couldn’t let P’Kanya find out and most importantly…he couldn’t let her stress about him when she was pregnant with P’Kim’s child.
‘Seriously, to say that I’m disappointed with how you turned out is an understatement, but to think that your lover is playing both you and your sister? That’s fucking insane! That Kimhan is having a child with your sister and fucking around with you at the same time!’Kit clenched his jaw, digging his nails into his palms as he curled his fists. His father’s words from earlier came crashing down on him, but this time, he refused to let the words of a scumbag affect his life.
To even think of that man as his father was an insult to the word ‘father’.
When Kit reached home, he found that the house was empty except for his sister, who was working with a maid to make Khanom TuayEmotion swelled in Kit’s chest. From where he stood, P’Kanya’s back was facing him, and his feet moved before his mind. Without so much as a hello, he walked up to his sister and hugged her from the back, his arms trembling as tears threatened to leak from his eyes.
“Kit?” P’Kanya knew immediately who it was without having to turn around. “What's wrong? Why do you seem so sad?”
“Phi,“Oh, Kit.” P’Kanya let go of the utensils she was using and turned around to cup Kit’s face. “For some reason, I was missing her too. That's why I was making us her favorite dessert. But to think that you were feeling the same way as well…I guess mom was missing both of us too, from heaven.”
Kit remembered how P’Kanya had told him once that their mother was now an angel in heaven, and after everything that had happened today, he let his tears fall, hugging P’Kanya tightly.
As they were too immersed in their sadness, both for two very different reasons, they failed to notice when Kim had entered through the front door and now stood there in shock, his expression worried as they watched the siblings.
Something seemed to be wrong, he could tell almost immediately, and it wasn’t what met the eyes. He took out his cell to text David, so he could tell if something had happened at the restaurant, but the more he watched Kit, the more his worries grew.
He clenched his jaw, resolving to find out whatever it was that went wrong when Kit was in the restaurant. No matter what, he was going to get to the bottom of it.
