32: Awkward Conversations
32: Awkward Conversations
Kit:Kit stood next to his sister on his balcony that overlooked the vast gardens of the Ayutthaya mansion.
It should’ve been a joyous reunion, after all Kit had been through a life and death scenario not too long ago and meeting his sister after a long time, even though it had been only a few days, after that incident…it felt surreal.
However, now it just felt awkward.
He hadn't expected to come home to find her kissing P’Kim’s older brother…
And it was only after the thought had passed that he realized that he had just considered P’Kim’s mansion as his ‘home’.
“So…it’s been a while…hasn’t it?” P’Kanya asked him hesitantly, rubbing her hands together constantly. “Sabai dee mai“Sabai dee khab“Karthot“Mai pen rai na phi“I just…I don’t know if I’m doing the right thing…you know.” She sighed. “I don’t even know if I can be with him in the way he would want to be with me…”
Wait…was his sister just talking about sex?
Oh god! Kit thought to himself as he felt his cheeks heat up! That is not the kind of conversation that he wanted to be having with his sister!
But since Som mentioned something about his sister being asexual…he was also curious to know what it meant. But not at the expense of her privacy.
He didn’t want her to feel awkward with him.
“Isn’t your feeling the most important aspect in a relationship?” Kit asked P’Kanya instead. “Don’t you think that…if you like someone…love someone, that is what should really matter most?”
Kanya gave him a small, sad smile. “Different people perceive relationships in different manners, Kit. So it all depends on the person in question.” Kanya shrugged. “For some people…physical touch is a way of showing affection. For others, it’s not. So…it depends on the person.”
Kit thought about it, about what P’Kanya meant, and even though he tried not to make it awkward, he just couldn’t think about it in that manner.
“You know…I always thought that you liked P’Kim.” Kit told her now, and it was the truth. Because for the longest time, he had believed that P’Kanya, despite what he always told him, had feelings for P’Kim. “I thought the reason why you accepted the invitation to come live here was because you wanted to start over with him.”
And that was what had made him feel incredibly guilty about having slept with P’Kim unknowingly…that he had stolen his sister’s first love…
“Kim? God no!” Kanya shook her head as if the idea itself was repulsive. “That would feel like dating my brother and its wrong on so many levels!”
She let out a laugh that not only startled Kit, but also somewhat put his mind at ease.
“Kim and I have been friends for too long and we know each other too well.” She told him now. “I love him as a brother and I can never see him as anything else. Even if he were into women and not men, or probably both…I still wouldn’t have ended up with him. Like I said…we’re just too close.”
Kit felt like he could finally breathe again. And as the two of them looked back out of the balcony to gaze at the stars, he felt a huge weight being lifted off of his shoulders. It was one thing to know something in your mind, but getting a confirmation was another thing entirely.
And now, Kit was glad that he finally had the confirmation he had been yearning for. He finally had the clarity he needed to accept P’Kim wholeheartedly.
“Do you think we should move out?”
“Huh?” Kanya’s question catches Kit off guard. So much so that he thinks he didn’t hear her properly. “Arai na“Well…I’ve been thinking…” Kanya shifted to face Kit. “I just feel like…we’ve been depending on Kim’s kindness way too much…I wish we could be more independent, so that we didn’t have to depend on this family so much.”
Where was all this coming from? Was Kit’s first thought. Wasn’t it P’Kanya who wanted to accept P’Kim’s help at first? Wasn’t she the one who brought him here in the first place so they would be safe?
And now, suddenly, she seems to have a change of heart because Kit happened to see her kissing P’Kla? Or was there something else that he was missing entirely?
Has he been away for too long that he didn’t know what has been happening to his sister in this house? Was he too engrossed in P’Kim himself to notice anything else?
“Kit…” Kanya shook her head, placing her hands on her brother’s shoulders. “Don’t overthink it. I didn’t mean it in a negative way. I just mean that…I know Kim had told me about the surrogate thing as just a way to keep me here because he was worried about us. I know he won’t really ask me to be the surrogate, despite all the other regulations that P’Kla had brought forward in the legal department. And that’s why I feel like…we’re basically living off of their family.”
Kit finally understood what P’Kanya meant, and it felt like his eyes had opened for the first time in a long while.
She was right. They were practically living off of the Ayutthaya family. And no matter how generous P’Kim was and how he thought that the two of them just might be together now…he still couldn’t accept the fact that he was so useless…
“Should I get a part time job?” Kit quipped in. “My university had a few jobs available for students, although they won’t pay-”
“Kit, I’ve told you this before a thousand times, let me worry about earning money.” Kanya scolded Kit. “I’ll deal with it my way or ask if I can help out the family in any way I can. But you need to focus on your studies, Kit. I want you to become a successful man, so that you can make our parents proud! Both mom and dad would be so proud of you when they see you become successful!”
But at the mention of their father, Kit’s expression grew tighter as he balled his hands into fists by his side, almost unable to control his emotions.
Father? Proud?
If he could, Kit would’ve gladly killed the man right then and there!
Not only was the bastard alive, but it was because of him that their debt never seemed to end! It was because of that leech that Kit and his friends got kidnapped and one of them, his dear friend Ben, had to go through something unimaginable as he spent the night at that psycho mafia’s establishment!
And yet…he couldn’t tell his sister any of it…
As he watched her describe the way she would celebrate when he became a successful office worker or ran a successful business…Kit had to grit his teeth and bear the pain of his nails digging into his palms so that he could control his emotions and not end up telling his sister everything.
Because he knew it would break her heart.
“So?” P’Kanya finally stopped to look at Kit expectantly. “Tell me.”
“Huh?” Kit had been so busy trying to stop himself from spilling all the secrets that he had missed out on what she had just spoken about.
“Did you not here what I just asked?” P’Kanya’s mouth fell open in shock as she reached out to playfully slap Kit’s shoulders. “You naught kid!”
“Sorry! Sorry…I just…got a bit lost in thought.” He told her sheepishly. “What did you say again?”
“I asked…how are things with you and Kim going?”
Kit’s eyes widened in shock as he saw the playful grin on P’Kanya’s face and the mischievous light in her eyes.
And it was at this moment that he knew for sure…that P’Kanya was well aware of his and P’Kim’s affair.
