30: Keeping Secrets

Kit:“No…because I won’t be staying here much longer.”

Kit, Earth and Ben stared at their friend in surprise and confusion.

“What?”

Prem looked down at his meal, not answering the others as he continued to stay silent.

The three boys exchanged nervous glances, wondering what this was all about, but not being able to find a reasonable explanation.

“Prem?” Ben finally spoke up. “What did you just say and explain in details what it meant.”

However, Prem shook his head, smiling at his friends like he hadn't said anything at all. “Nothing. You guys must have heard me wrong. Let’s get back now. The bell is about to ring.”

Just as Prem said so, the bell signaling the end of lunch hours, rang loud and clear, all over the university and the four boys got up from the floor, dusting off their garments as they headed back downstairs to attend classes.

Kit however, kept looking at Prem from the corner of his eye and he felt like he could tell almost instinctively that he was hiding something.

As was Ben.

But was he really someone who could force those secrets out of his friends when he himself was hiding things from his friends as well as his own sister? His own family?

“Ah…Kit. How’s P’Kanya doing?” Earth asked as if on cue. “Haven’t heard from her for a long time now.”

Kit instantly felt horrible about himself. For being such a horrible, selfish brother and not visiting his own sister for so long. So much so that he actually didn’t even know how she was doing…

“She’s doing good.” Kit managed to fake a smile for his friends and hoped that it was convincing enough that his friends wouldn’t ask too many questions. “I’ll be going to P’Kim’s mansion this afternoon. Wanna tag along?”

Instantly…all of his friends looked weary, including Prem.

“I…er…have tuitions after classes.”

“I have to take my mother to the dentist.”

“NongAll three answers were so fast that one overlapped the other and in the end it all sounded like a bunch of gibberish that could hardly be deciphered…however, Kit had been their friends for long enough to understand everything that came out of their mouths, which was nothing but a bunch of excuses.

However, aside from Prem, who still didn’t know the truth about what had happened the previous day…even though it felt like a lifetime ago to Kit, Earth and Ben had already suffered enough at the hands of a psycho mafia don and he completely understood their peril of not wanting to associate with another.

“Fine.” He nodded his head in understanding, although a little frustrated at his friends antics. “I’ll go alone. No worries.”

“Well…let’s head to classes then.”

Prem separated from the rest of the group and headed to the Faculty of Medicine as the rest of them headed to their classes.

And the rest of the day passed by pretty uneventful as the classes continued on till about four in the afternoon, before they all left for their respective destinations.

However, when Kit approached the car that P’Kim had sent for him, it wasn’t P’Aawut that greeted him, but someone else entirely.

“Sawadee khabNongKhun“Err…Khob khun khabPhi“Phom chûu David khab“Sawadee khab, P’David,” Kit folded his hands together in a wai.

“This way, khabUsually, P’Aawut knew to keep the car a bit far away from the University entrance so that not many people would notice Kit get into such a luxurious car, but since this was P’David’s first time here, he probably wasn’t aware of the protocol.

“Phi, khab“Of course,” P’David nodded in the rear view mirror and started driving towards the house immediately.

Kit tried to hold onto his tongue, but his curiosity got the best of him eventually. “PhiP’David looked at the young boy in the rear view mirror, more than a little taken aback to see him addressing their Jao por“Not yet, Nong“P’Aawut told me that he went to Pattaya City this morning.” Kit nodded, almost like an afterthought. “But why didn’t he come to pick me up?”

As far as Kit had known, it had always been P’Aawut who had been there to take care of him. However, it was a little surprising to see another person now driving him around.

Yet again, David was surprised to see how the higher ups in the family cared for this boy. “KhunKhunSo…P’Kim had still been in Bangkok when Kit had woken up? Then why had he lied and told him that he had already left? And why did P’Aawut also tell him the same thing?

Something didn’t sit right with him and it felt like suddenly, everyone around him was keeping secrets.

He didn’t like this feeling one bit.

The car finally arrived at the gates to the Ayutthaya mansion, and just like the first time he had seen the humongous house, he once again felt spellbound by its beauty.

Evening had already fallen by the time they reached the front gates and one of the guards stationed at the front door had rushed to open the doors for him.

With a small smile and a bow, Kit got out of the car and stretched his tired muscles, anticipation and awe bubbling in the pit of his stomach as he looked around the mansion.

“Phi“Oh! I think she is by the pool with P’Kla.” The maid gave him a warm welcoming smile. “Will you be staying the night, Nong Kit? I’ll let the maids know so they can prepare your room.”

“Please, don’t trouble yourself, Khun yai“Aao! Mai pen rai jaKit was left a little overwhelmed with the heartwarming welcome he received from the woman he had just met. And it left him feeling a little giddy about how well he fit right into P’Kim’s life and in his home, with his people accepting him wholeheartedly, without any complaints.

Not knowing what else to do, he decided to go greet his sister by the pool. He could take a shower later and besides, now that he was finally here, he was finally realizing how much he had missed his sister.

“PhiHe exited through the glass doors that led to the spacious garden which then led to the pool area. His steps were hurried as he rushed to meet his sister.

“PhHis words cut short as he froze completely on the spot.

A gasp sounded from the other side of the lush bushes that separated the garden from the pool and two figures jumped apart at the sight of him.

It were P’Kanya…and P’Kla…

And they had been kissing right before Kit arrived…
