Chapter 1868: Adjusting to Larta City

Chapter 1868: Adjusting to Larta City

Rex exited the room and went down on his own.

Someone was already waiting for him in the lobby, one of the robed people, and he was told to wait in the lounge. He sat down on the corner sofa and reclined back, eyes staring ahead in deep contemplation, ignoring the glances from the people around.

Considering that he was wearing clothes native to the Spirit Realm, he stood out like a sore thumb.

But he didn’t care.

A lot of things swirled inside his mind.

Even though meeting the High Lord this quickly was not what he planned to do, it’s not useless.

He still got a few good things from it.

Fortunately for him, High Lord Rashal was a talkative person, so he learned many things. But although there are good things he got from this turn of events, there are also the opposite. Drawing attention this soon is not ideal. I can move freely if there are eyes on me at all times.

Back in the Spirit Realm, he was quite low-key.

The attention he got only came from the local lord—but now, he got the attention of the most powerful person in this specific area of the Primordial Meadow. It’s not about power anymore. Even if he were as strong as High Lord Rashal, the disparity in political power is too wide.

Rex would be crushed by the entire Primordial Meadow’s forces if he got on the High Lord’s bad side.

He wanted to hope that High Lord Rashal would not turn hostile, but it’s hard to say.

Someone like that would always be attuned to an opportunity, and that can only mean more trouble.

Is it really bad luck? I don’t believe it.

High Lord Rashal said that it was intuition that led him to that report.

But it was blatantly clear that he was a liar. He even lied about the Pure White Dimension.

According to the System, that white dimension is called the Pure Black Dimension. And the effect did not only revolve around detecting a lie, but also summoning a creature that would kill him on the spot. Just that lie alone made it clear that High Lord Rashal is a pathological liar.

He lies as easily as he breathes.

Regardless, what does he mean by representing him?

Just then, his eyes were drawn to a group of people entering the lounge.

It was Davina, Lilliana, Nash, and also the robed person who waited for him in the lobby earlier.

"Mr. Rex Silverstar, you may now retract your Soul Artifacts. Thank you for cooperation," the person said politely. He then produced a metallic card from his inner sleeve and placed it on the table. It looked like a credit card. "The High Lord wished you to have this. It can be used throughout the city to cover your expenses.

"Please, enjoy the city. It’s an honor for the city to host such a young talent." He added.

Rex looked at the credit card.

His stare was blank, but instead, he wasn’t happy about it at all.

Regardless, his face betrayed nothing.

He’s already making a move against us.

High Lord Rashal didn’t even try to hide the fact that he wanted to keep a tab on Rex. This credit card must be able to ping Rex’s location and also leave behind a paper trail of transactions every time he uses it, allowing an easier time for High Lord Rashal and his team to follow his movements.

Rex was fine with the latter, but it’s a problem if this credit card exposed his location at all times.

But he can handle it fine.

System, scan the credit card and recommend an item to me.

Rex shifted his gaze back to the person, "And what about the permit?"

"Someone is going to pay a visit to your place later tonight to bestow the permit."

Once the person delivered the message, he cast the others a warm smile and then walked away.

And only then did the others sit down.

"I see that you guys are okay," Rex said, leaning back on the sofa and crossing his legs. "Interrogated?"

"No, it’s not an interrogation," Davina shook her head. "I only sat down in a waiting room alone. It’s a bit boring with sleeping music playing in my ears."

Rex looked at Lilliana and Nash, and the two of them seemed to also experience the same thing.

"So, who did you meet?" Lilliana leaned forward slightly in interest, while Davina and Nash seemed to be more interested in the place they were in right now. "Must be someone incredibly powerful to scoop us out of the cavity like that."

"Yes, he’s a powerful man. High Lord Rashal, and he is in charge of this city—and all the cities within Cluster Gamma," Rex replied.

"What does he want?"

"Just to ask me a few standard questions. To find out the purpose of our coming here. But I can somewhat tell he only wanted to meet with me."

"You must’ve gotten into his radar. I would also want to meet with you if I were in his position. In any case, did you tell him why we came here?"

"Yes."

"And how do you know that he’ll not get in the way?"

"It doesn’t matter whether he knew the reason we came to this realm or not. He will know eventually, anyway. And besides, I made a deal with him," Rex massaged his forehead, not knowing whether he made the right call or not. "He wanted us to represent him on something, but I don’t know what."

"Us?" Lilliana pointed at herself, and then to Davina and Nash. "All of us?"

"Yes, I think so."

"In exchange for what?"

"I asked for a Primordial Authority. So that we have access to any realm without the suppression from the Primordial Meadow. I was only hoping to get a few permits, but he surprisingly agreed to give me the Primordial Authority. As a sign of goodwill, he gave me one permit in advance."

"Agreeing to the first demand? It’s either he’s desperate, or he’s not planning to fulfill the deal from the start," Lilliana snorted, finding this High Lord Rashal really amusing. "Do you trust him? Do you trust that he’d follow through?"

It doesn’t matter how good the deal was; the most-important thing is whether it would be kept.

No use of an incredibly good deal if it’s not fulfilled in the end.

"Of course, not. How can I even make sure he would follow through?" Rex waved his hand—knowing that this was a matter that he needed to address later. "Besides, there’s no other choice. If I refuse the deal, he’ll make trouble for us openly. At least now, he’ll put on a good front."

Almost instinctively, Lilliana looked around.

She was worried that others could listen to their conversation.

But Rex flicked his hand, and there was another nail, similar to the one he used to isolate Zev’s territory.

It blocked anything from coming in or going out. Nobody can listen to their conversation.

Just then, a frown crept to Rex’s face—he recalled something during the meeting.

"Are you sure you’re only told to wait?" Rex asked. "Just sit down and do nothing? No questions?"

"Yes, that’s all they told me," Lilliana answered with certainty, but she could tell that Rex was confused about something. She decided to extrapolate, "We were teleported right into this building, in a hall, and there are several rooms. A robed woman was waiting for us, and she escorted each one of us to our own room to wait."

"Did you notice anything odd? Maybe something she did? Or maybe something she used? Or even her attire?"

"Odd?" Lilliana thought back to the moment. "I don’t think so. All she did was ask our names. Oh, she also wears a pair of bright gold gloves, which stood out compared to her all-white attire."

Rex’s eyes sparkled at this, "Did she ask for a handshake?"

"Yes, she did reach out for a handsha—"

Lilliana stopped mid-track.

For a moment, they simply stared at each other, something unspoken passing between them.

Then, in perfect unison, realization dawned.

"So that’s how he seemed to know a lot about me. Like... a lot," Rex sighed, recalling how High Lord Rashal seemed to know about the others back in the Mortal Realm, and even his unborn daughter. Both Lilliana and Davina knew about this.

Rex was certain that the sisters were not naïve enough to slip out important information.

Both are around manipulation all the time.

However, things are different here in the God Realm, and it’s easy for them to slip up.

"Ah, I shook her hand..." Davina’s face turned red from shame.

"It’s fine," Rex waved his hand. He wasn’t angry since it was an accident. "Just don’t touch anything that belongs to strangers. Everything you see in this realm is divine-grade. So, everything has some kind of effect upon touch."

For the next couple of days, Rex and the others adjusted to living in Larta City.

With their deal struck and High Lord Rashal’s surveillance now a constant shadow, they had no choice but to play the hand they were dealt. After the meeting, they decided to find lodging—an apartment near the central square seemed the best option.

But they eventually settled on a penthouse to gain a better view of the city.

Before settling down, they bought clothes to blend in with the masses.

Davina and Lilliana stood out the most as they were still wearing dresses since their spatial ring doesn’t work in this realm. More importantly, this also served as a chance for them to bask in modernity, which would help them adjust faster.

Of course, Rex was there to show them the ropes.

Everything was somewhat similar here in comparison to Ratmawati City, so he’s right at home.

He also has a new side to them.

Davina’s eyes constantly glanced at cute things like dolls, house decorations, which was surprising to see considering how manic she was about becoming stronger. Every time he asked about whether she wanted to buy some, she always declined and got angry.

But it was obvious she was only shy.

As for Lilliana, she was a foody. Ice cream and cakes are the things she is interested in.

The Spirit Realm’s nature was devastated, so things like food are not that varied.

However, the most troublesome one was Nash.

He constantly asked Rex to wait somewhere secluded and less crowded. It was the lone hunter in him that made him restless around so many people—especially when most of the people walking about were stronger than him.

It was so bad that when they returned to the penthouse, he begged Rex to let him go to the outskirts.

Fewer people. Dirty. And rougher than the central square.

Rex let him go. His reasoning was sound enough: he would gather information about High Lord Rashal from the locals, who were certainly more forthcoming than the proper people in the central square. Still, Rex suspected the excuse was born more from a desire to be alone.

Not because of his commitment to information gathering.

At the latter days, Davina and Lilliana also went out on their own.

Mostly, Davina wanted to meet up with the people she’d spoken with in town. Her kind of people who knew more secrets. She dragged Lilliana along as she had noticed her big sister was getting a little bit too comfortable with Rex.

So, Rex was the only one left behind in the penthouse.

Rex was sitting cross-legged in the training area, which was a room that was entirely matted grey.

For the last couple of days, he had been focusing on one thing and one thing only.

His Nigh-Divine Adaptation skill.

Devouring four Godlings made him feel odd about something inside his body. And he had been trying to feel what it really was; however, he was ultimately unsuccessful. At least, he was unsuccessful until today.

A notification appeared before him, and the sight made him smile.
