Chapter 263: You Should Know Men Well

Rachel Royce looked at him.

In the dim light, the man’s pitch-black eyes were as deep and still as an ancient well, impossible to fathom.

After a brief silence, Rachel Royce suddenly asked, "If I still looked the way I used to, would you still be saying these things to me now?"

Tristan Sterling replied, "I don’t make pointless evaluations of things that never happened." As he spoke, he suddenly reached for her hand. Rachel struggled, but he easily pried her fingers open and laced them tightly with his, leaving her no way to escape.

"What matters is the present. People have to pay for their actions, and you’re no exception, Rachel Royce. Since you married me and gave birth to Melissa, you have to see your actions through to the end."

Rachel Royce looked up at the man before her. "Tristan Sterling, you’re always so arrogant and self-righteous."

Tristan Sterling stared at her, his gaze so deep it seemed it could swallow her whole. "Regardless, Melissa and we are still a family of three, aren’t we?"

Rachel Royce averted her gaze. "Besides Melissa, there will be no more children between us."

Tristan Sterling took a deep breath, his grip on her hand tightening slightly. "That’s fine too. Melissa is so smart. We’ll raise her well, and when she grows up, she can inherit everything I own."

For a woman to become the heir of a top-tier wealthy family was practically unheard of.

Whatever Tristan Sterling’s true intentions were, Rachel Royce couldn’t deny she was shocked by his words, especially since Thomas Sterling had already said that half of his own assets were in Melissa’s name.

This was something no one in any other prominent family would ever do.

Rachel Royce lowered her eyes and said nothing.

"You can add any other clauses you want. I’ll have my lawyer notarize it tomorrow. Think it over carefully tonight and get some rest."

With that, the man released her hand, put down the agreement, and stood up. He walked to the door, opened it gently, and then closed it behind him.

Rachel Royce stared at his departing back as the door shut. Her gaze then fell upon the agreement. After a single glance, she got up and went to Melissa’s room.

Just then, Melissa suddenly woke up.

"Mommy!"

Rachel Royce immediately went to the edge of the bed and patted her back. "I’m sorry, sweetie. Mommy woke you."

Melissa blinked her eyes. "When did you get back, Mommy?"

"A little while ago." Rachel Royce lifted the covers, climbed into bed, and gathered Melissa into her arms. Patting her back, she coaxed, "Go back to sleep, sweetheart."

Melissa snuggled into her mother’s embrace, murmuring sweetly, "Mommy smells so nice."

Looking at her daughter’s sweet, soft face, Rachel Royce felt her heart melt. After she lulled Melissa back to sleep, the little girl was still clutching her clothes, so she had no choice but to stay and sleep beside her.

「The next day at noon.」

Rachel Royce went to Tristan Sterling’s office and signed the agreement with him.

The agreement had three additional clauses: In any professional setting, they were only cooperative and competitive partners, and he was not allowed any form of intimacy with her.

He was not allowed to force her to do anything without her permission.

The agreement would be valid for three years. If he did not violate any of the clauses, they would proceed with divorce proceedings after three years.

After reading the terms of the agreement, Tristan Sterling looked up at her. "So, no matter what, you’re determined to divorce me."

"Our marriage was a mistake from the very beginning. I was greedy for something I had no right to, and I can accept the consequences I deserve. But I can’t bear it for a lifetime," Rachel Royce said seriously.

Tristan Sterling gazed at her intently, the corner of his lip curling into a slight smirk. "What if, in three years, you’re the one who doesn’t want to divorce me?"

Rachel retorted, "Let’s talk about it if you can even last that long."

Tristan Sterling couldn’t help but chuckle. "So sure you know what I’ll do?"

Rachel said, "You of all people should know what men are like."

’There’s no affection between us, anyway. Men are just animals who think with their lower bodies. There was a Claire Ainsworth, and in the future, there will just be another one.’

Tristan Sterling suddenly let out a laugh.

Hearing his laugh, Rachel felt an inexplicable chill run down her spine.

"Fine." He signed his name without any hesitation.

Watching the moment his pen touched the paper, Rachel Royce knew with certainty that this was only the beginning.

"I’ll call someone to have your things moved to my room in a bit."

Tristan Sterling personally escorted her downstairs and out of the company.
