Chapter 876 Ambushed
Chapter 876 Ambushed
With Divine Sense that could cover a few hundred meters, such tracking methods were child’s play to Ling Feng.
He was now somewhat puzzled; among the three cars following him, occupants of two were fair-skinned Westerners, while the other car surprisingly contained Eastern faces.
These people were clearly not together. It could either be two groups or perhaps even three.
The simultaneous interest in him made things rather interesting.
When his car arrived at the hotel, Ling Feng didn’t bother looking at the cars that followed. The group quickly completed the check-in process and went upstairs.
The three of them booked two rooms. Du Hao didn’t rush back to his own room but instead sat down in Ling Feng’s room and asked, "When will Zhang He’s contact arrive?"
"Should be soon, he knows our schedule," Ling Feng replied.
Just a few minutes after sitting down, someone knocked on the door rhythmically: two long, two short.
Ling Feng opened the door and was immediately taken aback by the person standing outside.
It was none other than the Eastern face from one of the cars that had followed them.
"Mr. Ling, hello. I am Kong Fanlin."
"Hello, please come in!"
Ling Feng nodded and let Kong Fanlin into the room.
After sitting down, he asked, "Mr. Kong, you have been following us since the airport, haven’t you?"
"Mr. Ling is indeed sharp; you discovered us!" Kong Fanlin said with a smile.
Ling Feng nodded: "Zhang He told me, you are a trustworthy insider. Why did you do that?"
"Because I suspected someone would follow Mr. Ling, so I followed along from there and, sure enough, I discovered people from two organizations!" Kong Fanlin explained.
"Oh? Then do you know who they are?" Ling Feng asked.
"I have found out," Kong Fanlin nodded. "Both parties are from military organizations, one from Ukraine and the other from Belarus."
Ling Feng was startled: "Both countries’ military forces are after me?"
Kong Fanlin chuckled, "Mr. Ling need not worry. The ones from Ukraine are likely ensuring your safety, escorting you covertly. As for Belarus, I am not yet clear on their intentions."
"Alright, I have no dealings with them. Following me so closely right after I landed does seem problematic," Ling Feng nodded in agreement.
In his view, those who hired the Holy Light Society to target him were likely associated with the Belarusian military.
However, without concrete evidence, one cannot be too hasty to draw conclusions.
So Ling Feng changed the subject: "Mr. Kong, when can the warship deal be finalized?"
"Tomorrow morning. The other party also wants the money as soon as possible, so we will head to the dock at eight," Kong Fanlin said.
"Good, I don’t want to waste too much time!"
Ling Feng nodded and continued: "However, we still need to follow the necessary procedures. I need to inspect the warship’s facilities and confirm they are functional before making the payment!"
"Of course, as the middleman, I must ensure this," Kong Fanlin nodded.
"Great, then we’ll see each other tomorrow morning!"
Ling Feng stood up after speaking, intending to see him out, but at that moment, a burst of gunfire erupted from downstairs!
Just as he was about to check out the window, Kong Fanlin immediately warned, "Don’t go near, watch out for stray bullets!"
"Don’t worry, even if they shoot directly at me, it won’t be a problem!"
Ling Feng chuckled and strode to the window.
Looking down, he saw two groups exchanging fire in the street below, each taking cover behind vehicles, engaged in a fierce battle.
With a sweep of his Divine Sense, Ling Feng immediately recognized both sides as the occupants from the two cars that had been following him!
Both groups looked almost identical, being from the Caucasian race. Ling Feng had no idea who was from Ukraine and who was from Belarus.
When the two groups opened fire at the foot of his hotel, it was clear the incident was related to him. Ling Feng watched with interest, wondering if one side wanted to kill him while the other was desperately trying to protect him.
According to what Kong Fanlin had just said, that seemed to be the case.
As he was thinking, his Divine Sense suddenly detected a flash of light from across the way, followed by a barrage of bullets fired from a building opposite!
Ling Feng’s first reaction was not to dodge but to sweep his Divine Sense behind him to make sure no one was there; only then did he duck out of the way!
With a crash, the glass shattered, and all the bullets embedded themselves in the wall.
At the same time, Ling Feng pulled Du Hao and Li Fei’er behind the safety of the wall.
As for Kong Fanlin, he too had agilely found cover.
Without a word, Ling Feng locked onto the sniper across from them with his Divine Sense and saw that the man was a bearded Caucasian. After his missed shot, the man punched the ground, then packed up his weapon and left the building!
Seeing him leave, Ling Feng finally let go of Li Fei’er’s hand and told the others, "The gunman has retreated!"
"They came to attack us so hastily, they must be in quite a rush!" Li Fei’er exclaimed, her eyes wide.
"Indeed, they are quite impatient!"
Narrowing his eyes, Ling Feng said to Kong Fanlin, "Mr. Kong, could you please stay and help me look after Mr. Du?"
"Ah? What about you?" Kong Fanlin asked, taken aback.
"I’m going to meet that gunman," Ling Feng said with a cold smile.
Kong Fanlin was startled, then asked, "Do you speak Russian?"
"Er..."
Caught off guard, Ling Feng then awkwardly admitted, "No!"
"So even if you catch the person, unless you bring him back, you won’t get anything out of him!" Kong Fanlin pointed out.
"Alright."
Ling Feng thought it over and decided to abandon the idea of pursuing the shooter.
After all, he was unharmed and the enemy would surely not give up. They would come after him again, and he would deal with it next time.
By then, the street battle had also ended. One side quickly retreated and several military vehicles arrived shortly thereafter. Soldiers in uniform jumped out and surrounded the hotel.
Seeing this, Kong Fanlin explained to Ling Feng, "This must be General Chekhov’s orders, to protect Mr. Ling."
"Is he the one selling the warships to me?" Ling Feng asked.
"Correct, he is the fleet commander and the only one with the authority!" Kong Fanlin nodded.
"Such protection is hardly effective," Ling Feng remarked with a wry smile, then said to Kong Fanlin, "Well, that’s enough for tonight, we’ll talk more in the morning."
"Okay!"
Seeing that Ling Feng had nearly been assassinated but didn’t seem nervous at all, Kong Fanlin had nothing more to say and left the room.
"It’s getting late, I should also get some rest," Du Hao said as he rose to leave.
"Uncle, make sure to draw the curtains in your room and be careful," Ling Feng reminded him.
"Don’t worry, I naturally know that!"
Du Hao smiled, turned, and left the room.
That left Ling Feng and Li Fei’er alone in the room. She looked at him with wide eyes, "Uncle, can you sleep after all this?"
"Of course not. In the blink of an eye, we’ve gone from Southeast Asia to Europe. Do you have any idea how far that is from home?" Ling Feng asked.
