Chapter 774: The Strange Box
Chapter 774: The Strange Box
Seeing Chen Ping do this, everyone else followed suit and found places to sit down.
Just as they had settled down, Ling Feng’s phone rang again.
It was Lin Xue calling: "How’s it going?"
"Nothing serious, just waiting for the flames to die down by themselves. You should come over, too," Ling Feng said.
"That’s perfect. I found an eyewitness and I’m bringing him over right now!" Lin Xue said before hanging up.
Ling Feng was startled, then showed a pleased expression, "There really is an eyewitness, this should make things easier!"
A little more than ten minutes later, Lin Xue arrived with someone.
To Ling Feng’s surprise, the person was Old Sun. Upon seeing him, Ling Feng quickly got up and asked, "Uncle Sun, what did you see happen earlier?"
Old Sun nodded, "Yes, I was working in the fields and saw something black falling from the sky, followed by a huge explosion in the mountains!"
"Be more specific, how big was it, what did it look like?" Ling Feng asked.
"Round, black, very, very big. I was so shocked, I thought the moon was falling down!" Old Sun said while gesturing with his hands.
"So, it really did have a shell?"
Ling Feng murmured to himself.
Then, Old Sun continued, "Right, I was petrified, but someone else wasn’t, they even took photos with their phone!"
"Who?"
At this, Ling Feng’s eyes lit up!
"Someone from the villa, they were by your doorway at the time, but I don’t know their name!" Old Sun explained.
Upon hearing this, Ling Feng immediately took out his phone and called Chu Xing.
Without any small talk, Ling Feng asked Chu Xing to find out who from the villa had filmed the object falling from the sky and to come find him in the mountains right away.
After a while, a young man rushed over and said as he approached, "Mr. Ling, you were looking for me?"
"Did you capture that thing falling from the sky??" Ling Feng asked.
"Yes."
"I was guarding your doorstep, bored, when I saw something in the sky emitting a red light, so I recorded it on my phone."
As he spoke, the young man took out his phone.
Now, everyone crowded around, forming a tight circle.
The video was very clear: a huge, black sphere surrounded by red light, clearly a result of friction with the atmosphere, descended from the sky.
The video lasted only about fifteen or sixteen seconds before ending as the black sphere fell into the mountains followed by violent shaking of the ground and a loud explosion, after which the young man immediately turned off the recorder.
This was already quite impressive; it left first-hand evidence that indeed the large hole in the ground was caused by an object from outer space.
Ling Feng had the young man send over the video and forwarded it to Chen Ping as well, adding, "Now things are getting serious; an extraterrestrial visitor, and a huge one at that. Once this news spreads, it’s going to shock the world, isn’t it?"
"It’s not their turn to be shocked yet. Let’s first figure out what’s going on before deciding whether it’s necessary to go public with the information!"
Chen Ping fiddled with his phone, encrypting the video and photographs before sending them off.
The signal was poor in the mountains, so the upload was slow. While he was busy with his phone, everyone else turned their gaze back to the still raging burning pit.
Ling Feng thought it was a pity, whatever it was, it was certainly going to burn to ashes; any valuable material would be lost.
He also found it somewhat strange; whatever that animal was, its burning capability was impressive, almost catching up to coal of the same volume!
If he could farm such creatures, wouldn’t he become an energy dealer?
While lost in thought, Chen Ping finally sent out the document and then said, "The higher-ups should take over this matter. Ling Feng, get ready to receive them!"
"Sure, the villa has plenty of space. There’s no issue with accommodation or transport!"’
Ling Feng nodded and replied.
He had barely finished speaking when Sun Hao suddenly exclaimed, pointing toward the entrance of the cave, "The fire is getting smaller!"
"Oh?"
Turning around, Ling Feng saw that this was indeed the case—the flames were dying down!
So, he hurried over to take a look!
The others were also very curious and immediately followed him.
But they hadn’t gone far before the high temperatures emanating from the cave entrance stopped them in their tracks.
However, Ling Feng, seemingly unaffected, moved forward with light steps, to the amazement of everyone. They wondered how he could possibly be impervious to the heat.
It wasn’t that he wasn’t afraid of the heat; rather, Ling Feng’s cellular strength was greater than theirs, and his heat resistance was much stronger, so he could still hold on for the time being.
This time, he was finally able to get close to the entrance. Enduring the scorching heat, Ling Feng looked down and was surprised to find that the giant black object previously captured in the helicopter photo had disappeared!
In its place, on the floor of the cave that had been melted to a mirror-like smoothness, was a dark red box!
The box appeared to be made of wood and had somehow not burnt up despite the high temperature!
At the sight of that object, Ling Feng’s heart gave a sudden leap!
This was definitely a treasure!
Such high temperatures couldn’t destroy it. The box alone was already a remarkable item, and whatever was inside must surely be extraordinary!
With this thought, desire flickered in Ling Feng’s heart.
Unfortunately, there were still flames inside the cave, and the ground was so heated that it had melted, making it impossible for anyone to descend.
Otherwise, Ling Feng would have wanted to jump down right away.
After standing to the side and thinking for a moment, Ling Feng turned back to the rest of the group.
"Your eyebrows are all curled up, you look like a foreigner!" Zhang He joked.
Ling Feng ignored him and said to Chen Ping, "The monster’s body has been burnt to nothing, and the ground is melted. I doubt there’s anything useful left."
"It’s a pity, if only we hadn’t used the helicopter!" Chen Ping expressed his regret with a sigh.
"The temperature won’t dissipate anytime soon. Director Chen, let’s head back to the villa for now. When the people from above arrive, we can receive them there," Ling Feng suggested.
Chen Ping nodded, "Okay, let’s go back first and discuss further when the higher-ups arrive."
Lin Xue led the way at the front, while Chen Ping, Zhang He, and the others prepared to return. Ling Feng, however, gave Sun Hao a look and winked at him.
Sun Hao was startled, not understanding the meaning. At that moment, Ling Feng whispered to him, "Come back later, there’s something at the bottom of the cave!"
"..."
Sun Hao’s eyes flashed with comprehension, and he nodded discreetly!
Ling Feng quickly caught up with the group, reflecting as he walked, "That visitor from beyond the stars is really unlucky, crashing down to Earth only to end up dead and burnt to ashes. Wasn’t this a long trip just to die?"
Chen Ping didn’t speak, and Zhang He’s brow was furrowed as well. Both of them were contemplating strategic matters, their moods far from relaxed.
The incident could be minor, just an accidental event—a meteorite falling from the sky.
On a larger scale, the question was whether the animal-shaped black object truly represented an organic life form, where it came from, if it was an isolated incident, or if some civilization in the universe had set its sights on Earth?
