Chapter 526: Heavy Weapons
Chapter 526: Heavy Weapons
"Just asking around?"
Chen Ping’s voice rose by eight octaves, "Is that a question you just casually ask? Even the Director-General isn’t qualified to discuss nuclear weapons, and you’re inquiring about this?"
Ling Feng almost held the phone two meters away, rubbed his ears, and chuckled bitterly, "Okay, okay, my bad, all right? I won’t ask anymore!"
"So tell me, what exactly do you want to do?" Chen Ping controlled his emotions and continued to ask.
After thinking it over, Ling Feng realized that if he wanted to get a suitable weapon, he still had to start with him, so he smiled and said, "It’s not about doing anything in particular. I’ve just encountered a bit of trouble. With my capabilities, I surprisingly can’t kill a monster, so I’m thinking of trying out some weapons!"
"You can’t deal with it even with your sharp knife?"
Chen Ping was taken aback and asked with a tone full of confusion.
Ling Feng smiled wryly, "My knife is sharp, but it’s too short. It can only cut the skin and can’t penetrate deep at all!"
"What kind of monster is it, and where?" Chen Ping asked.
"That, I have to keep confidential!" Ling Feng said helplessly.
His response was met with a long silence from Chen Ping. Just when Ling Feng thought the signal had been cut off, Chen Ping suddenly said, "I’ll think of a way to help you."
"Really? That’s great!"
Ling Feng immediately became excited upon hearing this.
"Don’t get too excited just yet. First, you must promise me that if I get you a weapon, it can only be used in confidential situations. You’re not to carry it around outside. Otherwise, I have the right to take it back!" Chen Ping said coldly.
"Don’t worry, Director. I understand. We mustn’t create a bad influence, right? I’ll be careful!" Ling Feng said with a laugh.
"Good to know. Wait for my call!"
After saying this, Chen Ping was about to hang up when Ling Feng quickly shouted, "Wait a minute!"
"What else do you want?" Chen Ping asked.
"Well, I was wondering if we have other equipment, like solar power generation facilities, the military-grade kind!" Ling Feng said with an awkward smile.
Actually, such equipment could definitely be bought on the market, but he had his own ulterior motives. Military-grade materials were sure to have quality and efficiency that civilian-grade materials couldn’t match, so he shamelessly asked.
Chen Ping was speechless: "What on earth are you planning to do?"
"Nothing, forget it if there’s none."
Hearing that Chen Ping was slightly irritated, Ling Feng hurriedly caved and prepared to hang up.
Unexpectedly, Chen Ping continued, "I can try to get it for you, but you have to tell me what it’s for so I can find the appropriate model, right?"
Ling Feng looked surprised, "It’s not for any special purpose. I just want to set up a large cold storage to store meat and vegetables and such because there’s a lot that can’t be consumed fully, and it seems such a waste to throw them away."
Chen Ping: "... How large a scale are we talking for this cold storage?"
Ling Feng scratched his head, "The kind that holds a few thousand to ten thousand pounds should be enough."
"I don’t understand what you’re up to, but let’s not rush this. First, figure out how much electricity such a large cold storage will need!"
Chen Ping sighed resignedly and then hung up the phone.
This conversation did give Ling Feng a reminder. After putting away the phone, he immediately teleported to Nine Heavens to seek Mo Jiaolan’s help.
After listening to his request, Mo Jiaolan nodded, "You do have a point. It’s indeed a shame for so much meat to just rot away. It’s fine to store it, and if there’s really too much, you can process it and sell it for money."
"Sell it? Wouldn’t that turn this place into an assembly line?" Ling Feng scratched his head.
Mo Jiaolan smiled, "Not necessarily. Considering how convenient teleportation is, you can transport it outside for processing as well."
"You’re right, the cold storage can be built outside, but we still need to handle the solar energy generation," Ling Feng said with a smile. "It’s not often that Old Chen agrees. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it, right?"
"You really are something, always looking to take advantage of everything!"
Mo Jiaolan said with a speechless face, but her eyes were filled with laughter, clearly not seriously criticizing him.
...
...
The next day, at just seven in the morning, Chen Ping called and asked him to come to Longyuan immediately.
Having nothing else to do, Ling Feng left the house and drove away from Shiliu Village.
Upon arriving and seeing Chen Ping, his eyes immediately shone as he asked, "Boss, do you have news already?"
"Yeah, follow me!"
Chen Ping, expressionless, nodded and turned to enter a room, not the basement, but a different room.
This was Ling Feng’s first time entering this room. He curiously peered inside and saw rows of shelves lined with standard-issue firearms.
"Holy smokes, Old Chen, did you set up a mini arsenal here?" Ling Feng’s eyes went round with surprise, not having expected so many guns stored here.
"These are standard weapons, reserves for dealing with emergencies. What do you know about it?"
Hearing Ling Feng casually call him ’Old Chen’, Chen Ping rolled his eyes in a display of mild irritation.
Ling Feng was nonplussed, his gaze lingering on the weapons, his mouth practically watering.
They say there are two things men love: cars and guns.
So Ling Feng was no exception; seeing all the types of weapons and ammunition, he felt his eyes might start to blur with excitement.
At that point, Chen Ping opened another door inside and looked back at him, saying, "Stop gawking, come in here. I’ve got something good to show you!"
Ling Feng, eager, quickly followed into the room. Seeing the heavy and powerful firearm on the table, he exclaimed, "My God!"
"How about that? Quite the surprise, huh?"
Seeing his reaction, Chen Ping asked with a hint of pride.
Ling Feng had already pounced on it, lovingly stroking the gun, and it took him a while to look up and ask, "Is this the Gatling? The kind that spews blue fire?"
"That’s right! But this is a modified version, fully automatic."
Chen Ping nodded, patting a metal box on the table, "With these 7.62 mm armor-piercing bullets, it doesn’t matter whether it’s a wild animal or a small hill, it can flatten anything!"
Ling Feng couldn’t take his eyes off them, rubbing the gun as he asked, "So, what’s its rate of fire?"
"Well, that’s a bit awkward. The rate of fire is too high—six thousand rounds a minute. You’ll need to use it sparingly, don’t go emptying it all in one go with a single pull of the trigger!" Chen Ping said with a wry smile.
Ling Feng uttered an "Oh," then looked up and asked, "Then how much ammunition do we have here?"
"We have ten thousand rounds of standard ammunition, and five thousand armor-piercing bullets."
"That’s not enough. I’ll take them all. Also, Old Chen, could you please check to see if there are more? If not, I’m willing to buy them."
As he spoke, Ling Feng lifted the machine gun, grabbed the box of bullets, and started to walk out.
Chen Ping, with a head full of sweat, said unhappily, "Did I say you could leave? Who said I was going to give it to you?"
"Huh?"
Ling Feng was taken aback and looked back at him, "What else could it be? You have something better than this?"
