Chapter 1652 - 1651: The Case Details
Chen Fei sighed, "It should have been just some petty neighborhood conflict, but it ended up as an injury case. People these days have so much pent-up rage!"
"They start fighting at the drop of a hat?"
Ling Feng was speechless upon hearing this, then said, "If it’s just minor issues that escalated to this, then it really is a bit too much."
As they talked, the car left the city area and entered the rural roads.
Not long after, they saw the detective team’s cars ahead, sirens flashing, also rushing to the scene.
Soon, the police cars in front entered a town and stopped by the street in the town center.
Ling Feng and Chen Fei got out of the car together, and the police on the scene immediately came over and said, "Director Chen, you’re here."
"Hmm, how’s the situation?" Chen Fei asked.
"There are three victims, one already dead, and the other two injured and sent to the town hospital for treatment," the police reported.
"What about the perpetrator?" Chen Fei continued to ask.
"The person has fled, still in pursuit!" the police said.
Chen Fei hummed in acknowledgment and stepped into the courtyard adjacent to the street.
Upon entering, she immediately saw a large bloodstain on the ground in the courtyard and a person lying there covered with a white sheet.
The onlookers were numerous, with many people standing on the rooftop next door, watching the police investigate the scene while discussing intensely among themselves.
Ling Feng was there to help, naturally not standing idly by. Upon arriving at the scene, he used his Divine Sense to quickly scan the surrounding environment.
Chen Fei was listening to the briefing from the investigating officers and also saw the perpetrator’s photo. Ling Feng glanced at it, then asked, "Which direction is the pursuit heading now?"
The local police station’s officer looked at him, then said, "Mr. Ling, the suspect may have fled to the northern mountains. We’re preparing to organize officers to encircle and capture them."
"Oh, no need!"
Ling Feng looked at him, pointed to the person in the photo, and said, "This person hasn’t left the village and is still nearby!"
"Really?"
Chen Fei raised her head and looked at him: "Can you determine his location? If we can catch him, we won’t need to issue a wanted notice."
"No need for that, just follow me. I know where he is!"
Ling Feng smiled and stepped out of the courtyard.
Chen Fei and several police officers followed him, and seeing this, the crowd also trailed from a distance.
Not everyone among them knew Ling Feng, but there were always those with a keen sense of information, so word spread, and many knew about him.
After walking for dozens of meters, they arrived at the entrance of a bungalow, and Ling Feng turned and said, "The perpetrator is hiding here!"
"But this isn’t his home," the police station’s officer said.
Ling Feng smiled, "Hiding in his own home would surely get him caught; he’d naturally choose a place with no ties to himself!"
After saying that, he reached out to push the door and found that the courtyard gate was locked from the inside. Ling Feng immediately leaped and jumped into the courtyard.
He opened the door, allowing the police officers to enter, then pointed to a square basement opening in the cement ground and said, "He’s inside!"
The police officers exchanged glances, surprised that he found the hidden suspect so easily.
Ling Feng smiled, understanding why they couldn’t grasp it, but didn’t explain much. Activating the Mind Soul Art, a scream from the person inside the basement was immediately heard.
"Alright, that person has lost their ability to attack, just go down and bring them out!" Ling Feng said with a smile.
"Go ahead, if Mr. Ling said so, it must be right!" Chen Fei said.
With her words, the police officers naturally didn’t hesitate, and two young officers immediately went down into the basement.
A moment later, a disheveled young man was dragged out.
The onlookers were stunned; it seemed too easy to solve the case and catch the suspect with such little effort!
The young man hung his head, still dazed from the sharp pain in his head earlier, led out of the courtyard by two officers.
The onlookers whispered among themselves, saying that the kid was done for; he’d pay with his life for murder.
Ling Feng hadn’t paid much attention to what people were saying until he heard someone quietly mention that the young man was wrongfully accused, which made him stop and turn to look.
The person who said this was an old man in his sixties, with a beard and hair showing signs of graying.
Ling Feng glanced at him and walked over.
The old man was whispering with others and, sensing someone approaching, turned to see Ling Feng and Chen Fei, which made him pause for a moment.
"Sir, I heard you just mentioned that this young man has been wrongfully accused?" Ling Feng asked.
"I-I was just saying casually, how did you hear that?" The old man asked, a bit surprised.
"That’s simple, my ears are just keen!"
Ling Feng smiled, then continued, "Don’t worry, sir, just tell me, how do you know he’s been wronged?"
"Little Sun and the Chen family had some conflicts, but it wouldn’t escalate to murder. He doesn’t have the courage, nor the reason!" The old man said.
"Oh, it seems you’re quite familiar with the inner circumstances. Can we have a chat? Rest assured, this isn’t an interrogation; I just want to ensure no good person is wronged, and so I want to understand the situation better," Ling Feng said.
Hearing this, the old man pondered for a moment: "Alright, I’ll cooperate with you, then."
"Thank you."
Ling Feng said before taking the old man back to the police car.
After a half-hour conversation, he and Chen Fei had gained more insights into the case.
The police had identified Little Sun as the perpetrator all too accurately, as the victimized family of three had no conflicts with others, only some unpleasantness with Little Sun earlier this year.
Moreover, after waking up in the hospital, the two injured were insistent that it was Little Sun who attacked.
This led the police to list him as a suspect and pursue him.
However, after listening to the old man’s words, both Ling Feng and Chen Fei felt that the matter wasn’t as simple as it seemed and believed there must be hidden truths.
Meeting eyes, Chen Fei told the old man, "Sir, thank you for your explanation. We will thoroughly analyze the case when we return and ensure no good person is wronged!"
"No need to thank me, I’m just doing my duty," the old man said.
After sending him out of the car, Chen Fei and Ling Feng went straight to the police station.
The young man had already been taken to the interrogation room but hadn’t been questioned yet.
When Ling Feng and Chen Fei entered, the officers handling the case sensibly stepped out.
Looking at Little Sun, who was handcuffed and sitting in the chair, Ling Feng walked forward, grabbed his wrist, and asked, "Are you Little Sun?"
"Yes, I am."
"Why did you harm that family of three?" Ling Feng continued to ask.
Little Sun raised his head: "I didn’t!"
Ling Feng sneered, "You didn’t? Then why were you hiding in someone else’s cellar?"
"I-I was wronged!" Little Sun defended himself.
