The Greatest Village Doctor In The World

Chapter 1129: Drink?

Chapter 1129: Drink?

Two days had passed.

The pig farm in Shankou Village was now up and running, and the village was bustling with activity. Virtually the entire village had mobilized—those who could do manual labor pitched in, while those who couldn’t took on tasks like running errands and delivering meals.

The construction site was buzzing with energy, but Ling Feng was preoccupied with the thought that Hu Tiesheng had been suspiciously quiet.

Logically speaking, after having his plans thwarted, that guy should at least have shown some signs of frustration, if not exploded in anger. Yet, for the past two days, it had been eerily calm.

Ling Feng didn’t believe that Hu Tiesheng had just admitted defeat and gone into hiding. He was certain the man was plotting some big move behind the scenes.

The only question was what that move might be.

Nearing noon, Ling Feng’s phone rang.

Shankou Village had recently installed fiber-optic cables and set up a base station, so now there was even cell service there.

Answering the call, Ling Feng smiled and asked, "Xiaoqian, are you looking for me?"

"That’s right! I’m inviting you to lunch. Come over!" Tang Xiaoqian said.

"Oh, there’s no need for that. I can just grab a bite here," Ling Feng replied with a smile.

"No, you have to come. Today’s not just my treat—Lingling especially wants to thank you!" Tang Xiaoqian insisted.

Ling Feng was momentarily taken aback, but then he understood. "So, does that mean she’s feeling much better?"

"Exactly! That’s why we want to properly thank you," Tang Xiaoqian said.

Thinking about how it had been two days since he last visited, Ling Feng nodded. "Alright, I’ll head over right away!"

After hanging up, Ling Feng left Shankou Village. Crossing over the mountain, he soon arrived at Tang Family Village.

This village was busy too. The crops in the fields had already been harvested, and now a few rotary tillers were at work turning over the soil in preparation for planting.

Ling Feng hadn’t yet asked Chen Yuhe what they planned to grow. No matter what it was, though, he trusted it would make money.

Arriving at Tang Xiaoqian’s house, he saw her in the kitchen, busily working with Mu Lingling. Reaching the doorway, Ling Feng smiled and asked, "What delicious dishes are you making?"

"You’re here? Come sit inside; the food will be ready soon!" Tang Xiaoqian said with a smile.

Noticing that Mu Lingling was also wearing an apron and skillfully working, Ling Feng chuckled and said, "Looks like Teacher Mu is quite the cook!"

"Not really. I just cook for myself often, so I eventually learned," Mu Lingling replied with a smile.

Ling Feng was about to chat with them some more, but Tang Xiaoqian nudged him and said, "Alright, this is the women’s domain. Go wait inside."

Left with no choice, Ling Feng turned and went indoors.

About ten minutes later, eight dishes were laid out on the table, each one fresh off the stove!

Though it wasn’t a grand feast, the dishes were carefully prepared with mountain delicacies—mushrooms, vegetables, cured meat, and more.

Tang Xiaoqian and Mu Lingling’s cooking skills were excellent. The dishes looked, smelled, and tasted amazing. Ling Feng couldn’t help but praise as he caught a whiff of the aroma, "It smells fantastic!"

"Ling Feng, do you drink alcohol?" Tang Xiaoqian asked as they sat down.

"Not really. I’m not particularly into alcohol; I’m fine either way," Ling Feng said with a laugh.

"Oh, in that case, never mind. I don’t have any fancy alcohol at home—only some homemade rice wine," Tang Xiaoqian said.

"Oh?"

Ling Feng suddenly became interested. "If it’s homemade, then I’d like to give it a try!"

"Are you sure? It’s not like those high-end liquors out there—it doesn’t have the same refined taste," Tang Xiaoqian cautioned.

Ling Feng smiled. "I’m not picky. I actually prefer homemade stuff!"

"Wait here, I’ll go get some!"

Tang Xiaoqian chuckled and got up to fetch the wine.

Ling Feng glanced at Mu Lingling and asked, "Teacher Mu, is your eczema healed?"

"It’s not completely gone, but it’s much better than before. Do you want to check it?" Mu Lingling asked.

Ling Feng hesitated for a moment before shaking his head. "No need. As long as you feel it’s improving, that’s what matters!"

After a pause, he added, "By the way, have you thought seriously about the cause of your condition?"

"Uh..."

Mu Lingling hesitated, then bit her lip and said, "I’ve thought about it, but I still feel like it has nothing to do with my friend."

"Really? I’m just giving you a kind reminder. Your issue does stem from that earring—it contains a strange toxin that’s been continually affecting your body," Ling Feng explained.

"Maybe my friend didn’t know about it either. She bought the earrings, so maybe they already had a problem before," Mu Lingling said.

"If that’s how you see it, then so be it."

Ling Feng felt speechless. He couldn’t tell if she was overly naive or just too kind. In any case, he had done his part. How she viewed the situation wasn’t something he had the right to interfere with.

So, he left it at that and didn’t say more.

Soon, Tang Xiaoqian returned from outside, holding a porcelain jar. "This is rice wine my family brewed two years ago. Because of some things that happened, it’s been sitting in the storage ever since. Ling Feng, give it a taste!"

"Wow, two years old—it must be even more aromatic now!" Ling Feng said with a smile.

After removing the clay seal, an inner lid was revealed. When Tang Xiaoqian lifted it, a rich fragrance immediately filled the room!

"Smells amazing!"

Ling Feng appeared captivated.

Seeing his expression, Tang Xiaoqian laughed and teased, "You said you’re not into drinking, but judging by your face, you must have the soul of a little drunkard!"

Even Mu Lingling, amused, burst into giggles, her eyes curving into crescent moons, though she didn’t say anything.

Ling Feng chuckled. "I’m not a drunkard; I just really enjoy this kind of aroma!"

"Then hurry up and try it!"

With that, Tang Xiaoqian poured a bowlful from the jar.

The wine was a deep red color, with the rich scent of alcohol mingling with faint floral notes. Even Mu Lingling widened her eyes in surprise as she stared at the bowl, then looked at Tang Xiaoqian. "Xiaoqian, is this wine really yours?"

"Yep! Back then, that good-for-nothing man in my family liked to drink. Buying alcohol was expensive and risky—there was so much fake stuff out there—so I started brewing it myself," Tang Xiaoqian explained.

Mu Lingling sniffed and, unable to resist, said, "Then pour me some too. Just smelling it makes me want to try it!"

"Sure, since you’re off today, a little drink won’t hurt!"

Grinning, Tang Xiaoqian quickly poured her a bowl as well.

Ling Feng, who was already impatient, skipped formalities and took a sip directly from the bowl.

The wine was rich and aromatic, with only a slight spiciness. It had an unexpected sweetness, almost like drinking a soft beverage!

As the liquid slid down his throat, a warmth blossomed in his chest and stomach.

Ling Feng’s eyes lit up. After just one sip, he couldn’t resist asking, "Sister, do you have more of this wine?"
