Chapter 1096: Picking Tea
Chapter 1096: Picking Tea
Upon hearing Ling Feng’s words, He Ping’an and Zhao Sanquan exchanged glances and simultaneously chuckled.
Then He Ping’an said, "Don’t doubt it. That cliff is at least eighty to ninety meters high, and very steep! Even monkeys don’t dare to climb it!"
"Really? Is it far from here? It’s still early, so I’d like to take a look!" Ling Feng said.
Zhao Sanquan smiled upon hearing this, "You city folks really are curious about everything!"
"You’ve got it wrong, old man. I grew up in the village too. That’s exactly why I’m interested in the great things in the mountains!" Ling Feng quickly explained.
Upon hearing this, He Ping’an nodded and said, "Since the Divine Doctor wants to go, let Hehua take you. It’s not far, just three miles!"
"No need, I can go by myself!" Ling Feng said.
"That won’t do, you’re not familiar with the mountains. If you get lost or fall into a pit, it’d be troublesome!"
He Ping’an said, then turned his head and shouted into the yard, "Hehua, come in here!"
"Coming!"
With a voice, Hehua hurriedly entered the house.
"Ling Divine Doctor wants to see that tea tree, take him there!" He Ping’an said.
"Oh, okay!"
Hehua was momentarily stunned but nodded immediately, smiling at Ling Feng, "Ling Divine Doctor, come with me."
"Okay."
Ling Feng couldn’t refuse further, so he followed her out the door.
Once in the yard, Hehua picked up a basket with a machete and slung it over her back, saying, "If we go and return quickly, we’ll be back just in time for lunch!"
"Alright, I’ll try not to delay!"
Ling Feng nodded, noticing Little Lian staring at him with what seemed like a hint of jealousy in her eyes, so he quickly diverted his gaze.
Then the two of them left the house and walked west, quickly leaving the village.
Although Hehua was slender, her steps were nimble. The rugged mountain roads posed no problem to her; she easily bypassed bumps and rocks.
Ling Feng could tell at a glance that she had grown up in the mountains. As they walked, he asked, "What’s your name? It’s not Hehehua, is it?"
"Pfft!"
Hehua giggled, glanced back at him, "How could that be? Hehua is my nickname, my full name is He Qian!"
"Oh, I see. The name Hehehua is quite a mouthful!" Ling Feng laughed.
Then he continued to ask, "By the way, how old are you? Why aren’t you in school?"
"I’m eighteen, just finished high school. I can’t afford college, so I didn’t go!" Hehua said.
Her tone was relaxed, seemingly indifferent, so Ling Feng didn’t inquire further.
The woods ahead became denser, and Hehua cleared the weeds encroaching on the path with her machete as they walked, leaving only a narrow footpath fit for one person.
Curious about Ling Feng, she asked questions too, about his reasons for coming into the mountains, and where he came from.
Ling Feng could only make up some lies to evade her questions, thinking to himself that these were harmless lies, not meant to deceive.
As they chatted, half an hour later, they arrived at the foot of a steep mountain.
"Here it is, Ling Divine Doctor, see, that’s the tea tree!"
Hehua pointed upward with the machete in her hand.
Ling Feng looked up and indeed saw a small tree growing from a cliff dozens of meters high, sticking out from the rock face.
"Don’t underestimate the tree, but this old tea tree is over a hundred years old. Only the bravest in the village dare to climb up, and they can only pick a little each time," Hehua said.
"Hmm, truly, good things are hard to come by!"
Ling Feng nodded, then said to her, "Wait here, I’ll go up and take a look!"
"Huh?"
Hehua was stunned, "Wasn’t it just to look around? You’re going up?"
"That’s right, how could one come to a treasure mountain and leave empty-handed?" Ling Feng laughed.
"But I didn’t bring a rope or anything, I didn’t prepare at all!" Hehua said.
Ling Feng smiled slightly, "No need to prepare, just wait for me!"
With that, he leaped onto the cliff face.
Hehua was left in awe, watching him quickly climb up like a monkey.
"Oh my goodness!"
Seeing Ling Feng’s agility surpassing that of a monkey, Hehua covered her mouth in surprise, her eyes full of worry.
Even with his nimble actions, she felt Ling Feng was too daring. What if something went wrong?
However, Ling Feng wasn’t displaying his true strength; he was just climbing with his immense power.
Falling due to failing to grip the rock didn’t bother him at all.
Before long, Ling Feng reached the underside of the tea tree.
The spot where this tree grew was indeed unique, surrounded by vertical rock faces with no place to stand.
The tree had sprouted from a crack in the rocks, and it was a wonder where the seed had originally come from.
Ling Feng looked around and felt that approaching the tea tree required jumping over and standing on the trunk to pick the leaves.
But the trunk was only as thick as an adult’s arm. He wasn’t sure if it could bear his weight.
"It truly is hard to pick!"
He sighed, glancing down at Hehua, figuring she probably couldn’t see his actions clearly from that height. He then took out the God Slayer Saber and leaped!
The saber’s blade buried horizontally into the rock face, providing support for Ling Feng, so his weight wasn’t entirely on the trunk.
He then quickly started picking the tea leaves.
In theory, this wasn’t the right season for picking tea, but there were still many fresh buds on the treetops. Using only one hand, Ling Feng managed to gather quite a bit.
After collecting, Ling Feng broke off a branch and stored it in his bracelet.
He planned to take it back to Wan’er, hoping she could cultivate it in the Second Layer Heaven, potentially increasing the yield of this tea.
After working for twenty minutes, Hehua’s loud shout came from below, "Ling Divine Doctor, it’s getting late!"
The clear, long voice echoed through the mountains.
Hearing this, Ling Feng replied, "Got it, coming down now!"
A moment later, he descended from the cliff back to the ground.
Hehua, finally at ease, stared at Ling Feng speechlessly.
"What’s the matter? Why are you staring at me like that?" Ling Feng asked with a smile.
"You’re too amazing! Are you a rock climbing athlete?" Hehua asked.
Ling Feng laughed, "Of course not, I just used to climb mountains a lot as a child, so these cliffs are no challenge for me."
"Really? We also have people in the village who grew up climbing, but they can’t go up without ropes or anything," Hehua said.
Ling Feng felt he couldn’t explain much more, so he said, "Perhaps I have a natural gift? Alright, you said it’s getting late, so let’s head back!"
He began to move, but suddenly a gust of wind blew from the nearby bushes!
