Chapter 1016: Falling into Water

Chapter 1016: Falling into Water

Chen Yan nodded, "That’s right, since you’re a junior, you should indeed call me ’senior’. But it’s weird, how come I’ve never seen you before?"

"I just transferred here, I wasn’t here before!" Ling Feng said.

"Oh, that explains it!"

Chen Yan suddenly understood and nodded, then asked, "It’s a pity I’ll be leaving in a few months, I won’t be able to eat your barbecue then!"

"You can learn to grill yourself, or just find a boyfriend who knows how to!" Ling Feng laughed.

"That’s true!"

Chen Yan nodded, then picked up a skewer of meat and took a bite, asking somewhat unintelligibly, "Is this thing easy to grill?"

"It’s quite easy, just control the heat and the seasoning well, anyone can make it like this!" Ling Feng said.

The two of them chatted while eating, and soon the snake was completely finished.

Although the snake was not small, yielding about two to three pounds of meat, Ling Feng and Chen Yan still felt somewhat unsatisfied.

However, it was clearly impossible to find another snake at this time, and time also did not permit since it was already one in the afternoon.

"I have a class later, so I won’t stay with you anymore. What’s your phone number? I’ll contact you later!" Chen Yan asked.

Ling Feng looked at her, "Why? Aren’t you afraid your boyfriend will get jealous?"

Chen Yan gave him a sideways glance, "If I had a boyfriend, would I be going to the woods alone all the time?"

"True!"

Ling Feng smiled and gave her his number.

This girl is quite interesting, making a friend is not bad either.

Ling Feng truly didn’t have any other thoughts; firstly, because there were too many beauties around him and he was somewhat weary of it, and secondly, because he knew he wouldn’t be staying here for long, there was no need to keep in touch with her after he left.

After exchanging numbers, Chen Yan went back to the academic area, while Ling Feng looked at his schedule, realizing that the first two afternoon periods were free, which meant no classes at all!

So, he didn’t get up and sat on the ground, muttering, "University life is really boring!"

He sat on the artificial mountain watching the scenery, and another hour had passed.

At that moment, Ling Feng’s phone suddenly rang, and it was an unfamiliar number. He answered, asking, "Who is this?"

"I’m Gao Xiaobao, where are you, Ling Feng?" the person on the other end asked.

"Oh, I’m at the artificial mountain near the back lake, what’s up?"

"Hurry up and come down, there’s been an accident, didn’t you see what happened here at the lake?" Gao Xiaobao exclaimed.

Ling Feng was startled, turned his head to look at the lakeside, but didn’t see anything.

However, because his position only allowed a view of half of the lake, Ling Feng quickly got up and climbed to the top of the artificial mountain, now able to see the entire artificial lake.

Upon looking, he saw quite a few people standing on the north side of the lake, and there was even a police car and an ambulance parked on the shore. Ling Feng was shocked and immediately rushed down from the top of the mountain!

He quickly reached the area, which had already gathered nearly a hundred people, mostly students.

Ling Feng didn’t know what had happened, squeezed through the crowd to find Gao Xiaobao, then asked, "What happened here?"

"Someone fell into the water, they say it was Mao Guoqiang," Gao Xiaobao said.

"What?"

Ling Feng widened his eyes in confusion and asked, "How did he end up here?"

"I don’t know, just heard it from others," Gao Xiaobao shook his head.

Ling Feng was a bit bewildered, watching firefighters retrieving something from the lake, so he asked, "How long has this been going on?"

"It’s been about an hour, and the police have been here for over half an hour!" Gao Xiaobao said.

Ling Feng did not ask further, knowing that the best way to understand the situation was to contact the police, but they probably didn’t have any information yet as the person had not been found.

So all they could do was wait.

Half an hour later, the divers retrieved a person from the bottom of the lake, and several people worked together to pull the body out.

The police had already cordoned off the area, not allowing irrelevant personnel to approach, but students still clearly saw the face of the person who was brought up; though covered in silt and pale as paper, Ling Feng and Gao Xiaobao recognized him instantly—it was Mao Guoqiang.

Having been in the water so long, he was certainly dead.

Although he was not close to him and had even had some conflicts, seeing this person drowned, Ling Feng still felt quite uncomfortable.

Gao Xiaobao felt the same, standing silently, unsure what to say.

The medical personnel conducted a routine check and confirmed that Mao Guoqiang showed no signs of life, so they immediately notified the mortuary.

Twenty minutes later, the body was carried away in the mortuary’s vehicle.

The students were buzzing with discussions, and eventually, they were all driven away by school officials.

Ling Feng felt heavy-hearted and prepared to call Deng Xian to ask him to keep an eye on the police for any news about how Mao Guoqiang died.

But before he could make the call, Gao Xiaobao received a call; the advisor asked all students to go to the classroom for an important announcement!

So, Ling Feng didn’t feel it was appropriate to make the call in front of him, and the two returned to the earlier classroom area together.

Once back in the classroom, all the students wore solemn expressions, no one spoke a word, and it was extremely quiet.

A few minutes later, a young man with glasses walked in and said sternly, "Everyone knows about Mao Guoqiang’s incident by now, this has cast a bad light, and the school requires everyone not to spread rumors and not to post anything online, do you understand?"

No one spoke.

"The cause of the incident is still under investigation. As soon as it’s clear, we will inform everyone. Don’t speculate or discuss it irresponsibly. If anyone is found disobedient, causing negative impact on the school, you will have to be responsible for your actions!"

"..."

Ling Feng listened from behind, filled with disdain!

A student incident occurs, and their first thought is to shut the mouths of other students?

With that effort, why not improve the safety measures of the artificial lake?

However, Ling Feng also understood, this incident probably wasn’t just a safety issue; Mao Guoqiang’s drowning likely had other reasons.

Too bad he couldn’t reveal his identity now, otherwise, he would like to explain to the police, and then go to examine the body.

Of course, it didn’t matter if he didn’t go; he could tell Deng Xian to check into it later.

The meeting finished abruptly, and the advisor left immediately.

As the students were about to disperse, he returned not two minutes later.

Upon entering, the advisor looked towards Ling Feng: "You’re the new student, right?"

"I am, is there something wrong?" Ling Feng asked.

"I heard that you and Mao Guoqiang had some altercation?" the advisor asked.

Ling Feng paused, somewhat perplexed, looked around at the other students, then asked, "Why? Did someone message you?"

The advisor hadn’t mentioned it before stepping out and only remembered after returning, which clearly indicated he had just received the message!

And naturally, it was one of the classmates who could have done this!
