Chapter 1275: Extra Story: Donovan Jennings 5

Chapter 1275: Extra Story: Donovan Jennings 5

When Donovan Jennings encountered danger, Scarlett Jennings and Magnolia Hearne both rushed over. How could Samuel Chalmers not know?

Almost as soon as Scarlett and the others arrived, he followed right behind.

But since the situation was quickly resolved, and taking into account the rare chance for a family outing, Samuel Chalmers chose not to reveal himself.

Even in relationships, not every moment requires participation.

So he waited by the villa, not to pick up Scarlett, but to check in on Donovan.

Before Donovan became Scarlett’s brother, they were already friends.

This remained unchanged even after Samuel Chalmers awakened his Dragon Vein consciousness.

Upon hearing that Samuel was waiting for him, Donovan immediately laughed.

It wasn’t the polite, gentle smile he gave to outsiders, but rather a more carefree grin.

He walked to the bar, glanced at the stock of alcohol in the villa, and asked,

"A drink?"

After a pause, as if remembering Samuel Chalmers wasn’t human anymore, he asked, "Do you still drink?"

Samuel Chalmers gave him a sidelong glance and replied succinctly,

"Yes."

So, Donovan Jennings, fresh from a family meal, began drinking with Samuel Chalmers.

There was no fancy show—just the simple clash of alcohol and ice, creating splendid colors in the delicate glasses.

Samuel Chalmers sat at the bar, clinking glasses with him.

The two drank silently.

After a long while, Donovan finally spoke,

"I didn’t expect them all to come."

Although Donovan has been involved with the Security Bureau and the Mystical Council, he’s usually behind the scenes and rarely encounters dangerous situations involving Demon Ghosts.

But rare doesn’t mean impossible.

From the moment he decided to get involved in Mystical Sect affairs two years ago, he knew such scenarios might arise.

As an ordinary person without awakened demonic power, Donovan always knew his shortcomings.

But he was never anxious because of it.

He knew his strengths just as clearly.

People can’t expect themselves to be omnipotent.

From the beginning, Donovan planned to excel in the domains he could reach.

"I’m quite happy."

He said.

Even though he was protected.

But who wouldn’t be happy to have someone protecting them? Even as a brother, it’s no different.

Donovan doesn’t feel ashamed about being protected by his sister; instead, he feels very proud.

Look,

From just him and his father, to finding his sister again.

To finding his mother.

And then helping his mother "find" her family.

Donovan feels content with his current situation.

He didn’t share this joy with his family but could share it with a brother.

Samuel Chalmers came at just the right time.

It’s rare for Samuel to hear him ramble, and unlike the perfect image of the Jennings Family Heir seen by outsiders, the current Donovan is just an ordinary person.

He listened to Donovan talk about feeling at ease, feeling fortunate, and being content with the present.

After a moment of silence, Samuel slowly took out a pendant shaped like a Crystal Column,

"I didn’t expect you to immerse yourself in the role of being protected. In that case, you probably don’t need this."

Samuel said, waving the pendant slightly before preparing to put it away.

But just as he moved, a hand swiftly reached out and snatched it away.

"What is this?"

A black Spirit Stone, warm to the touch, and his fingertips seemed to sense the pure Spiritual Energy flowing over the stone.

It was somewhat similar to the Vital Stone that Samuel gave Scarlett, but it was different.

As both a brother and a friend, Donovan naturally knew the significance of the Vital Stone Samuel gave Scarlett, and he wasn’t arrogant enough to think Samuel would give him the remaining half.

But that didn’t stop him from being curious about the finger-sized stone pillar in his hand.

Samuel explained,

"I condensed this from the purest Spiritual Energy at the Heart Vein. It can substitute for your own Spiritual Power and assist you in cultivation."

When Donovan decided to join the Mystical Sect, he considered learning some magic.

Not to be invincible, but at least to protect himself.

But in the end, he didn’t have Scarlett’s talent.

He had no Spiritual Power, nor any demonic power.

Even after learning the logic behind magic, he couldn’t perform it.

Even a High Rank Mystical Sect Magical Artifact requires a certain amount of Spiritual Power to activate.

No one knew he had been trying to cultivate in secret.

Neither Scarlett nor their mom knew.

But Samuel knew.

He had been thinking of ways to help him.

Previously, there were too many things and distractions; now, taking advantage of Scarlett’s vacation, he finally refined what he wanted.

"My power fundamentally comes from the Heavenly Dao, and the Spiritual Energy at the Dragon Heart Vein gathers the fortune of heaven and earth. Even if it can’t help you form your own Spiritual Power, it can substitute for it to be used."

After explaining, Samuel paused,

"Of course, this is all my speculation; you’ll still need to experiment with how to use it."

After all, he had never made such a thing before.

Hearing him, Donovan narrowed his eyes and then smiled.

When his eyes curved, there was a bit of resemblance to Scarlett; finally, there was some sibling similarity.

He held the crystal column-like object in his hand, admiring its perfect symmetry and ideal angles.

It was undeniably a creation of Samuel Chalmers.

Though carrying it around like this was a bit inconvenient, so he gestured to Samuel,

"Drill a hole."

Samuel paused his hand holding the glass, turned to look at Donovan, his dark eyes hinting at an impending eye roll.

But he held back.

He extended his other hand, and his distinct fingers lightly pointed at the stone.

Immediately, a perfect small hole opened at the top of the previously intact crystal column.

Donovan looked quite satisfied, then untied the red string from his wrist, threaded it through the crystal column-like pendant, and wrapped it three times around his fair, strong wrist, putting it on.

Unbeknownst to them, as the red string threaded through the stone, wisps of demonic power intertwined with the pure Spiritual Energy within the stone.

After securing the item, Donovan lifted his glass once more to clink Samuel’s,

"Thanks."

He squinted at Samuel for a while, then suddenly said,

"Take good care of Scarlett."

Donovan stated earnestly, "If you ever argue with her, I’ll always side with Scarlett."

Though they are friends and he had accepted Samuel’s gift, he wouldn’t hesitate to be biased when it came to protecting his own.

As Donovan Jennings, he would stand by family over reason.

Samuel Chalmers gave him a sidelong glance and simply said,

"That won’t happen."

After a pause, feeling perhaps it wasn’t strong enough, he added,

"If you and Scarlett argue, I’ll side with her too."

After saying that, they looked at each other in silence for a moment, then smiled.

They were about to clink glasses again, but finding their glasses empty, Samuel instructed Donovan, "Mix another drink."

Donovan smilingly moved aside,

"You mix."

...

Meanwhile, after three rounds, Scarlett Jennings and Magnolia Hearne had already returned to the Jennings Family in Sea City.

Luca Jennings eagerly waited at home, finally relieved to see them return.

He had even seen their social media posts about shopping and buying clothes.

His son was fine, and his wife and daughter had left him behind to go shopping.

Luca Jennings, now halfway through life, experienced the feeling of being left out.

After freshening up, he sat on the bed with his wife in his arms, listening to her recount the night’s events. Hearing about this girl named Nyxelle Sinclaire, Luca was a bit curious,

"Didn’t you ask Donovan about his relationship with that girl?"

After all, during the day, she seemed concerned and wanted to arrange a blind date for Donovan.

Now seeing a woman with matching looks and family background by Donovan’s side, Luca thought she might at least be curious and gossip a little.

Magnolia Hearne replied,

"There’s no need to ask. Donovan doesn’t like that girl."

Luca listened to her confident assertion and asked,

"How do you know Donovan doesn’t like her? What if he’s just reserved?"

Just like how he didn’t initially realize he liked her back then.

Magnolia Hearne gave him a sidelong glance,

"I’m not like you. I’m much better at seeing these things."

If I must explain how I’m certain...

It must be—

A mother’s intuition.
