Chapter 1270: Extra Story: Donovan Jennings’ Memories – Reunion
Chapter 1270: Extra Story: Donovan Jennings’ Memories – Reunion
Three years ago, Sea City.
On the way to the airport, Donovan Jennings encountered a car accident.
With a loud bang, the car was hit and stopped suddenly.
The phone in Donovan’s hand flew out as he sat in the back seat, but he quickly steadied himself.
"M-Mr. Donovan Jennings..."
The driver, still shaken, pointed to the fallen girl in front of the car.
Donovan frowned, "Did we hit someone?"
The driver hurriedly explained, "No, the opposite side hit someone, and the person flew in front of our car."
It was essentially a secondary collision.
Judging by the force and trajectory of the collision, the chance of survival for the girl was extremely low.
But Donovan still got out of the car immediately, instructed the driver to contact an ambulance, and had the assistant contact a lawyer. Just as he was about to leave the scene to the lawyer, his gaze inadvertently met the semi-open eyes of the girl lying on the ground.
He paused abruptly, just looking at her like that.
Despite being severely hit, the girl wasn’t bleeding much, and her face appeared clearly before him, giving him a strange sense of familiarity.
Not far away, another girl, seemingly frightened, was crying, while the family that rushed over was busy comforting the shocked girl, ignoring the girl lying on the ground unable to move.
Donovan felt inexplicably upset, and upon hearing the assistant say a different car was arranged to take him to the airport, he suddenly said,
"Cancel this business trip, I’m going to the hospital with the ambulance."
The assistant instinctively agreed but paused in confusion, "With the ambulance?"
Though it was a secondary collision, the accident wasn’t their fault, and Donovan theoretically didn’t need to be involved.
Yet he insisted on going to the hospital. Although the assistant didn’t understand, he complied.
The girl was sent to the hospital, and a series of examinations were done promptly.
But the results surprised everyone—minor abrasions, not even a concussion.
Donovan waited outside the emergency room until he confirmed the person had been sent back to the ward before leaving.
When he returned to the Jennings Family, it was already night.
Declan immediately came up as he returned, "The master is in the study."
Donovan nodded and went upstairs. Luca Jennings was abroad, currently video calling with Jennings about a matter. Seeing him enter wasn’t much of a surprise, only asking him,
"I heard you canceled your trip at the last minute?"
"Yeah, encountered some accident on the way to the airport," Donovan explained.
Luca had heard about the car accident, thinking that’s what he meant, but Donovan’s next words left both Jennings and Luca on the video call startled.
He said,
"I might have found my sister."
Jennings maintained composure, but on the other side, Luca directly knocked over the cup by his side. After a long pause, he looked seriously toward Donovan on the screen, his voice containing some restrained trembling,
"Are you sure?"
Donovan said, "I’ve arranged for a DNA test, but the results will take three days to come out."
Eighteen years ago, the Jennings Family lost a girl, and because of that child, Luca’s wife has been missing to this day. Over the years, they’ve searched many places but couldn’t find the child. Jennings, curious about what his eldest grandson was basing his judgment on, asked directly,
"How are you sure that she’s your sister?"
Donovan did not answer immediately but instead paused silently, before slowly speaking,
"You might not believe it...before my sister was born, I saw what she would look like grown up."
Jennings, Luca: ???
...
Not to mention, before seeing the girl named Scarlett Garrison, Donovan didn’t believe such a thing either.
Eighteen years ago, Donovan was just an eight-year-old child.
That year, Magnolia was just nine months pregnant.
Donovan returned home from school to find his mother with four-year-old Kingston Jennings painting at the easel in the sunroom.
Little Donovan ran over happily but stopped before reaching, adopting the mature demeanor of a big brother,
"Mom, brother."
Magnolia immediately opened her arms upon seeing him, "My little Donovan is back, come here and let me hold you."
Little Donovan, both happy and a bit embarrassed, sidled over, avoiding his mother’s belly, letting her hold him, then asked,
"Was my sister good today?"
"She was so good," Magnolia said, "as good as Kingston."
Little Kingston, mentioned, bowed his head low, somewhat silent and shy.
Donovan, as the elder brother, couldn’t act spoiled in front of his younger brother, so he shifted his gaze to the drawing board, "Mom, who is this?"
The drawing showed a girl, eighteen years old, delicate and radiant, unfamiliar yet exuding a strange sense of closeness.
Donovan curiously stared for a few more moments before hearing Magnolia say, somewhat mysteriously,
"This is what your sister will look like when she grows up."
Upon hearing this, Donovan couldn’t help but widen his eyes,
"But, isn’t sister unborn yet?"
Pausing for a moment, he quickly realized, "Is it one of those online AI future syntheses?"
Composing the future appearance of their children based on parents’ features.
Donovan thought that his mother painted something like this.
He saw his mother shaking her head mysteriously opposite him,
"Not AI synthesis, it’s what Mom foresaw ahead of time."
She said, looking at Donovan and Kingston, making a shushing gesture,
"It’s a secret, don’t tell anyone."
Little Donovan and little Kingston, both bewildered, yet seriously agreed.
A secret, not to be told.
A month after, his sister was born but mysteriously disappeared.
His mother chased after her, and then she didn’t return either.
On the same day, Donovan lost both his mother and the sister he awaited eagerly.
That painting naturally faded to the back of his mind.
Donovan thought he had forgotten.
After all these years, his dad tidied up his mother’s things but didn’t see that painting again, and Donovan couldn’t recall its exact appearance.
Until today.
The moment he saw Scarlett Garrison, memories of that painting suddenly became clear in his mind.
Like a seal being unlocked, the person in the painting overlapped with the person lying in the hospital bed.
Donovan knew it seemed absurd, but he was unwilling to let go of any possibility of finding his sister.
Long after that day, when recalling his decision at that time, Donovan still felt immensely grateful.
Three days later, the DNA test result came out.
Scarlett was indeed his sister.
Luca flew back immediately from abroad, and Jennings summoned the Jennings Family to welcome this child together.
As a representative, Donovan personally went to the Garrison Family to pick someone up.
He was always low-key in his actions, yet that day he chose to appear in the most ostentatious manner, as if only that way could show her the importance she held in his heart.
He always remembered that day, she stood so lonely in front of the villa’s gate.
He walked step by step towards her, full of joy and gentleness, saying the words he hadn’t had the chance to say to her eighteen years ago—
"Nice to meet you, I’m your brother, Donovan Jennings."
From now on, your brother will be responsible for protecting you.
