Chapter 1258: Extra Story: Declan Dixon, Time to Go Home

Chapter 1258: Extra Story: Declan Dixon, Time to Go Home

Stella and Ashton stood quietly by the side, only speaking when her sobs had subsided,

"Let’s take him home first."

Now that they had found the corpse, it was time to "return" it.

Fayella realized this too, and suppressed her sorrow as she stood up, looking at the corpse that remained seated, nodding with a sob,

"Yes, we have to take him home. Uncle and Aunt are still waiting for him."

Fayella took out a satellite phone she had prepared in advance, intending to call for help.

But just as she was about to move, she was stopped by Stella who raised her hand,

"No need, leave it to me."

Stella stepped forward, taking several small bottles out of the backpack she carried and arranged them on the ground.

She opened one of the bottles, pouring three cups of liquor,

"Today, I’ve found the sole son of the Dixon Family, Declan, and am guiding him home."

Holding up the first cup, she tilted it, letting the clear wine spill,

"This cup is for the sky."

She held up the second cup,

"This cup is for the earth."

With the last cup raised,

"This cup is for the Mountain Deity."

After completing these rituals, Stella bowed towards the surrounding mountains opposite the cliff basin.

She then turned and opened another porcelain bottle, pouring out the brown oily substance inside, recognized by Ashton as corpse oil. He zoomed in the camera for a closer look, eager to capture the rare scene.

Stella ignored him, taking out a special brush, dipped it in the corpse oil mixed with vermillion, and made a mark on Declan’s forehead.

She then swiftly drew a rune on Declan’s face with the brush.

The rune extended downward from his chin to his neck, eventually disappearing into his chest.

Fayella watched wide-eyed, curious about what this was for, only to see Stella chanting a mantra with one hand. As the runes on the brush were completed, she gently exhaled a breath onto Declan’s body.

She quietly spoke, calling,

"Declan, it’s time to go home."

Almost as soon as the words left her mouth, Fayella saw the once rigidly seated body pop and crack its joints, and in the next second, with eyes closed, it stood up straight at her words.

...

Mr. and Mrs. Dixon had been waiting at the mountain’s base for two days.

They placed all their hopes on the Gibson Family, ignoring all the speculations circulating online.

Today, all they wanted was to bring their son’s body home intact.

They eagerly waited for the third day.

On this day, Mrs. Dixon woke up early, even though it was still dawn with morning mist outside, her heart was inexplicably restless.

Almost as if by a natural intuition, she quickly headed outside as soon as she sat up.

Mr. Dixon, puzzled, hurriedly grabbed some clothes to chase after her.

The two of them arrived at the foot of the mountain where Stella and her group had previously ascended. Mr. Dixon draped a coat over Mrs. Dixon, just about to say something to comfort her, but then he saw her staring blankly at the mountain forest ahead.

Although the sun had not yet peeked out, the sky was already half-illuminated.

In the forest, still shrouded in morning mist, they could vaguely see figures moving in the depths of the woods.

The figures slowly emerged from the mist.

One, two, three, ...

Four.

Mr. and Mrs. Dixon stared intently at that spot.

As the mist gradually lightened.

The figures of Stella and her group quickly came into view, but their gaze stayed fixed on the figure behind them.

With slightly stiff steps, taking one step at a time, the figure followed behind Stella.

Finally emerging from the morning mist, revealing that familiar silhouette and face.

Mr. and Mrs. Dixon were in disbelief; upon clearly seeing the last figure, tears poured down their faces, and they stumbled forward in excitement, forgetting everything else,

"Son!"

"Declan!"

Their son wasn’t dead!

Filled with excitement and happiness, they ran forward until they reached, finally seeing their son’s grey and stiff face with closed eyes clearly.

The smiles on their faces visibly faded away, but the tears flowed even more fiercely.

Not caring about the mummified condition of the person before them, the two rushed forward, one on each side, tightly embracing the upright standing Declan.

"Declan, my child sobs..."

"Ahhh, my son..."

The two cried uncontrollably, and seeing the scene of Mr. and Mrs. Dixon embracing Declan and wailing, Fayella couldn’t hold back her tears again.

Stella did not interfere, standing aside with Ashton, allowing them to pour out their myriad sorrows upon the corpse.

When the sun had risen high, the hearse arranged by her cousin arrived with a coffin.

Now that the corpse had been found, they needed to quickly transport it back for cremation and burial.

Ashton recorded Declan’s corpse being placed into the coffin while Mr. and Mrs. Dixon and Fayella sobbed before stopping the footage at Stella’s signal.

At this point, he let out a long breath, sighing,

"There were other ways to transport his body out; letting his parents think there’s hope only to shatter it again, it’s too cruel."

Stella cast a glance at him,

"Guiding him to his relatives using the Corpse Control Technique wasn’t to break their illusions, but to let those who couldn’t see him at the end, remember him standing."

This was the final solace that the Corpse Chasing Clan left to the living.

Stella’s trip out was mainly to recover the corpse; the returning part could be handled directly by the company staff as per another professional procedure.

Mr. and Mrs. Dixon, seeing their son’s coffin being loaded into the hearse, approached Stella and Ashton, bowing deeply,

"Thank you, if it weren’t for your help, the child... would still suffer in the mountains exposed to the elements..."

Though Mr. Dixon’s voice was choked with emotion, Stella, who had often witnessed such scenes, could not be unmoved.

She gestured for them not to worry, and informed them of the location where the corpse was found and the inferred situations at that time.

Mr. and Mrs. Dixon had seen their child’s intact body and knew those rumors of him being eaten weren’t true.

But they hadn’t expected this aspect of the matter before.

In that moment, their gaze towards Fayella held a few layers of complexity.

"We must thank you, without you, we may never have been able to retrieve our son’s body."

Who would’ve thought that the deceased would still move because of unresolved desires.

Still... even in death, he cared about his trapped companions, trying to guide them out of the dense forest in his walking corpse state; such kindness, it was truly their child.

And the truth, sometimes, could offer solace to the living, just as it did for the Dixon parents here.

Looking past Mr. and Mrs. Dixon, Stella glanced at Fayella who stood silently not far behind them and, after some thought, asked them,

"There’s one more thing; we want to get your permission."

The Dixons were puzzled, as Stella continued,

"We want to publicly release the video of how we found his body."

There was too much public speculation; both the survivors and the netizens ought to know the truth.

It was time to end the baseless, malice-filled guesses.
