Chapter 146: Leaving

Chapter 146: Leaving

‎-"Damon Darkfell has lost."

‎-"What a pity, he was the dark horse of the entire tournament."

‎-"It’s not his fault though, she defeated even Alistair after all."

‎Rose turned a deaf ear to the whisperings and chattering of the healers in the infirmary. It hadn’t been long since Rose came to, and from what she heard, Alistair had lost to Anastasia, and Damon had also faced the same against the redhead.

‎There were no words that could full express how Rose felt at having lost to Damon. She didn’t know whether to be angry or sad. All she felt was the sheer reality of her incompetence. Another thing that was glaring to her was now her own position.

‎If Damon, the lesser brother had now defeated the sister supposedly superior to him, then was she now lesser than lesser? All their lives, Rose had lived with the fact that she was the superior one, but now, that belief had suddenly been shattered.

‎’No!’ Somewhere in the back of her mind, a voice suddenly protested. She was the superior one, it might have shifted a little, but she would always be the superior one. Also, though she had never experienced such setback before, she wasn’t one to let such drown her.

‎She was going to take her spot back, her spot above Damon, no matter what it took. With that, she sprang up from the bed and left the infirmary amidst the protests of the healers, and headed back to the portal that led to the pocket dimension.

‎However, the moment she was about to enter one of the portals, Damon emerged from the same portal. He looked hell of a lot surprised that she was there, but his surprise was quickly masked with a mask of indifference. Then he suddenly stepped to the side and walked past her without so much as a single word.

‎Rose’s eyes widened as if she couldn’t comprehend what just happened. If Damon had celebrated before her, taunted her, or even speak down to her, she would understand. But this... Damon ignored her outright.

‎Who the hell did he think he was? Just as Rose was contemplating attacking him right then and there however, another individual emerged from a portal next to the one Rose was standing before.

‎Anastasia walked out from the portal, and much like Damon, only spared Rose a glance, before moving to Damon’s side, and soon, both started to walk away.

‎What Rose didn’t know was that if she had attacked Damon at that moment, she would have subdued him effortlessly, after all he was quite exhausted and nearly out of aether.

‎---------------

‎The moment I stepped a foot outside the from the portal that led out of the pocket dimension, I found Rose standing before me. While it was surprising, I quickly masked my surprise and walked past her with an indifferent expression.

‎Gods how satisfying it was to watch the changes Rose’s face went through while pretending not to notice as she stared daggers at me. When she looked close to exploding however, Anastasia emerged from the portal next to the one I had come from, diffusing the charged air.

‎"What took you so long?" I asked as Anastasia and I walked off. It had taken about ten seconds after I came out before she did. "It was nothing much." The redhead waved her hand in disinterest. "Just some fans who were obsessed with me."

‎"Tsk, show off." I clicked my tongue. Where were my own fans? I think I also deserved quite the number of fans from the performance I put on today.

‎"What did you say to your sister?" Anastasia suddenly asked.

‎"What do you mean?" I asked.

‎"She looked close to exploding when I arrived."

‎"Well, nothing." I shrugged.

‎"No, what you told her must have warranted that reaction. Knowing you, you might have taunted her about her loss." Anastasia built her own story.

‎"Hehe." I chuckled. "You don’t get it. When I said nothing, I literally meant nothing. I didn’t even open my mouth."

‎"..." Anastasia paused mid step, and turned to stare at me, mouth agaped. "You’re diabolical, but I like it."

‎As we both talked, we soon reached outside the dome, and after a long, long walk later, we reached the dorms where we finally parted. Anastasia to the hydra dorm, and I to the snake dorm.

‎The moment I got into my room, my instincts overrode my control, and took me to the bedroom. And as soon as my body crashed into the soft, soft bed, I entered the Dreamland.

‎------------

‎The next day.

‎I woke up with a severe headache only to notice that I had slept for over twelve hours. About fifteen hours to be precise. It was surprising, and at the same time wasn’t. My body needed to repair and recalibrate itself from all the tortures I had recently put it through. And sleep was one of the necessary agents to do that.

‎Unfortunately, another necessary agent was energy. Have you ever felt like there was nothing inside of you, or that you felt entirely hollow, only that that hollowness came with gnawing pain? Well, that was what I was currently experiencing at the moment. Severe hunger cramps.

‎The remaining bit of energy I had, had been used as a supplement for my body to repair itself.

‎"Fuck!" I wheezed. Then I summoned a large tower of food and stuffed myself like there was no tomorrow. However, I regretted my decision almost immediately.

‎"Shit!" I cursed as an even more severe cramp hit my stomach. How the hell did I forget that one had to eat moderately at first after having not eaten for such a long time, or in my case, where there was nothing in my stomach.

‎I spent the next half an hour wheezing on the floor, before the cramps finally lessened.

‎"Never again." I wiped my sweat dripping forehead.

‎Ding!

‎Just then, I heard a ping from my graphic mirror. Picking it up, I saw several messages from Dion from yesterday, till now.

‎-"Bro, you wouldn’t believe what happened, Anastasia asked me to stop a bunch of crazy fans from entering the portal until a few minutes after she was gone." Ah right, I had a feeling I forgot about something as Anastasia and myself made our way to the dorms.

‎After that message, was a bunch of several others, about how unreasonable it was for girls asking to take him on a date. And then finally, the most recent one, and the one that drew my attention.

‎–"Bro, why are you not yet in class? Didn’t you see the message in the group chat?"

‎"Seven hells." I cursed. Today was the day we were supposed to leave campus. However, for some ungodly reason, we still had to wear our uniforms, and meet instructor Black in homeroom for a small briefing. It was the same in the novel, yet it completely slipped my mind.

‎As for the group chat? Heh, don’t make me laugh. I had not opened that chat a single time since I was added.

‎After seeing the message, I stood up, quickly headed to the bathroom, and took a quick shower. After that, I wore my uniform, didn’t forget to pack all my belongings into my spatial storage, before leaving the room.

‎’See you in three weeks.’ I thought as I stepped outside the room.

‎Not long after, I arrived in front of my classroom. With a deep breath, I held my head high, and pushed the doors open.

‎As soon as I stepped into the room, everyone turned to me, some with fear, some with awe, some with indifference and a certain few with resentment.

‎’Ah, take it in Damon, you deserve it.’ I inwardly nodded to myself as I walked up the stairs and towards my seat amidst everyone’s gaze. Just for sport, I even winked at Alistair, one of the three looking at me with resentment including Delilah and Elsa.

‎However, the class soon got back to its usual chatter as I faded into the background. Of course Dion and I were having our discussions too. It wasn’t until instructor Black appeared in the room that the class grew silent.

‎"Good morning, students." The instructor said with a dried voice that suggested he hadn’t slept in a long time. But I knew that wasn’t the case, after all aetherial at his level didn’t have to worry about sleep anymore.

‎"I will get straight to the point." the instructor continued. "Starting today, you all are on a three weeks long holiday, and I expect every single one of you to not slack off during these times." he said.

‎"Honestly, apart from a few individuals," His gaze fell on me, Alistair, and a few others. "The rest of you aren’t even qualified to be called mediocre. So if I were you, I would buckle up my belt."

‎"Another thing, after this short break, when you come back to the institute you’d be in for a nice surprise." A dark smile appeared on his lips.

‎"Sick bastard." I mused. I Knew what the surprise was. When we come back from the short break, everything in the institute, even the food that was normally free before, would require points.

‎So, if your points were gone, you’d starve. Simple as that. That wasn’t going to happen to me though. I was going to prepare well for that.

‎The instructor continued to speak for the next half an hour or so before he was done.

‎"See you in three weeks." he said, and vanished.
